I started reading the first of the True Blood books. It's very entertaining and trashy, two qualities that endear it to me (the heroine starts the book by describing the fact she is hot. LOL).

I think I might check out the show...

I don't care about vampires one way or another, positive or negative, but am always there if they bring on the cheesy fangy angst.

I watched the first two eps of "True Blood." They follow the first book (what I can recall of it) pretty closely. I didn't like how impressed the show was with it's own "edgy" sexuality. By the end of the first episode, I was going: "yes, yes, people in Bon Temps have lots of hot, kinky sex. I get it. I don't particularly *care.*"

Sookie is pretty cute, though.

*That* surprised me. It's been a while since I read the books, but I remember Sookie being the type to wear t-shirts with Tweety Bird on the front, and big poofy hair squishies.

Ha! I just started reading the book, too. It's delightfully trashy but I'm finding it a little monotonous being from Sookie's POV. Kind of like Twilight, I wish we could see what Bill's thinking just so we can stop hearing Sookie go on and on and on and on about how she doesn't know how Bill feels.

Crazily, I thought there was more sex in the first episode than there is in this whole book. haha

True. But all the sex is secondary characters. Which, seems to be a theme in TV these days. With the young kids. Gotta lure in those whipper snappers with the violence and the sex.

(Btw, I liked the show and characters well enough, but I thought the show kinda looked too boring to me to follow it. In one word, it might totally be your thing!!!)

Naw, you know, because we are eternally fated to not like the same things :) I think BSG is boring too, while I thought Rome was the coolest thing ever!!!

The whole "look, we are showing sex (though it's just some random minor characters)!!" was pretty annoying though in True Blood.

That's what irritated me about Rome. That an ahistoricalness (I don't mind ahistoricalness in things that are campy but Rome was trying to be gritty and serious) :P

The sex fixation on these shows makes no sense to me.

I am a grown-up, I know what sex is like, why would I want to watch a watered down imitation?

Heck, if I felt in a voyeuristic mood, I could just rent a full-fledged adult movie and be done with it.

So what's the point?

The best thing about the show is that they gave Sookie a best friend- Tara, who is totally in love with Jason even though she knows he's a complete useless manwhore. She steals every scene she's in, and now I want Jason to realize how awesome she is and renounce his whorey ways for her.

Well, I've read all the books up till the latest in paperback. They are quite entertaining reads but have now started repeating themselves. Seems like longer series always do that. So I don't think I'll bother with any new additions.

The tv show sounds like being much trashier than the books.

My flatmate has just downloaded the first ep of True Blood and says it's pretty enjoyable, although the vampire is no Angel! I'm quite keen to read the books, might see if I can convince her to buy 'em :D
