I haven't finished 9 End 2 Outs. I liked what I saw, but it was perhaps too realistic, you know? I usually require something more intense to get me really hooked. I'll keep up with it sometime, though.

This said, I haven't watched a kdrama I truly fell for in a while.

So here is your chance: rec me.

You know my likes:

* angst (happy ending preferable but not necessary)
* forbidden/star-crossed/passionate love
* hot men
* heroines I can like
* evil families are a bonus
* so is stepsibling love
* so is student/teacher or rich/poor
* truly open endings are a no (e.g. Time between Dog and Wolf or Legend type open is fine, Powerful Opponents or My Love Patzzi type open is not)

Bring it on!

Though I so need to finish Winter Sonata

I am already getting teary-eyed and it's only ep 8.

Hormonal swings don't help.

*fixates on future flash-forward at the very end, though how modern day nagase and Aibu Saki characters could be reincarnations of Taro and Suzu when both were alive when their grandkids were born escapes me. Do not care, will mandate a happy ending!*

Loveholic starts out student/teacher and can be found on mysoju.com
From dramawiki
It's a love story between the disobedient student Kang-wook and his teacher Yool-ju set in a high school in Chuncheon.

Before meeting Kang-wook, Yool-ju has been dating Tae-hyeon, a public prosecutor. But over time Yool-ju and Kang-wook fall deeply in love with each other despite social prejudices, the age gap and the teacher-student relation. One day, Yool-ju accidentally kills Kang-wook's classmate who intentionally harasses Kang-wook. But due to narcolepsy, Yool-ju doesn't remember what has happened, as she falls asleep during the incident. To protect her, Kang-wook goes to jail in place of Yool-ju.

Five years later, when Kang-wook is released from prison, he meets with Yool-ju again, but Yool-ju is engaged to Tae-hyeon. Learning what sacrifice he has made for her, Yool-ju wants to return to Kang-wook, but this time Kang-wook is not alone -- Ja-kyung, his former classmate and currently a radio program host, is beside him. The circumstances hamper Yool-ju from loving Kang-wook, but she is desperate to help him recover the lost five years and become a top-notch cook.

I loved 9 End 2 Outs. You're right that it's not very intense, but there is some angst; and what I loved most about it, is that the entire story is very cohesive. Nothing's coming out of left field, no hand-waving to make everything make sense. Plus, it's really humorous.

I'm not sure if you're interested in a currently airing drama, but have you heard about The Scale of Providence? I haven't even watched the first episode yet, but I remember seeing the wiki summary and hoping desperately that it would be subbed (so far just the 1st ep).

I havwn't heard about TSoP at all but it does sound intriguing. I'll wait until more subs are out and then will definitely check it out.

Spring Waltz has evil parents and the hero literally sold himself as a child so the heroine could have surgery. And he looks like a Korean Orlando Bloom.

And it has a normal kdrama angstfest plot without irritating me in the slightest, for whatever that's worth.

*rechecks list*

Yeah, all of that.

Can I be egotistical and pretend it's the part where it's a kdrama angstfest that gets my approval?

I'm going to second Spring Waltz. Daniel Henney's character can be rather sad at times, but that's alright. And, the rich parents are evil-mean while Lee So Yeon's character (aka secondary girl) can be mean for no reason. Oh, and Han Hyo Joo is the female lead.

I Am Sam is a romcom student/teacher, but I haven't seen it. I know there is a bit of angstyness. And, I think the main girl (whose rich and a high school student) has a mean dad.

I want to help, but honestly - I think we've seen all the same things.

Oh! Did you ever get around to watching Piano? Kim Ha Neul and Go Su are stepsiblings who fall in love but she pretends to hate him - angst happens. Jo In Sung is a bright kid who becomes a a rebel and turns into a ggang pae who ends up living with a woman with a kid. The stepdad is sweet, though. No evil parents. KHN and JIS are bratty, though.

Have you see Que Sera, Sera? Happiness is a 58 episode weekend drama (up to episode 53 have been subbed - it's still airing. It has:

- Angst. Couples can't be together, issues, etc
- Mean/bitchy rich mom.
- 3 star-crossed couples (rich woman/poorer man; rich ballet dancer/poor uneducated boxer; rich (married) businessman/employee of businessman's mom (and she happens to be his college sweetheat, but he married a rich girl to help the family company)
- Hot men
- Good Women
-And because it is a weekend drama, the ending will surely not be open.

It is long, which is why I've split it up. I've seen up to episode 32, and will d/l and watch the rest later. Thankfully, it's a drama that you can stop and start without forgetting too much. If you have time, I'd give it a go.

You and I are so wrong for each other ... ;) But seriously, I am trying to think of a kdrama to rec and I can honestly say none of the ones I've watched in the last few months fit *any* of your criteria. Okay, the hot men thing but that's not difficult.

Lately I've been more inclined to watch and finish the ones that are just a little bit fluffier than the Tree of Heaven types of the kdrama world. I can't remember the last full-on angst fest I watched.

It doesn't have to be a full angstfest. A little angst is also welcome :)

I've seen a few kdramas with a little angst: Who Are You? about a girl who loses her dad and then her dad's ghost inhabits the body of her unemotional, good looking 30 year old love interest and I Really Really Like You. But both have incredible frustrating characters to watch, so if you don't mind being frustrated & gritting your teeth and/or rolling your eyes every so often, then you should be good to go. ;)

Of the recent ones I've watched, I'd probably rec Dal Ja's Spring which isn't all that angsty - it has it's dramatic moments but nothing that's really heart wrenching. And as long as you can get over Chae Rim's eye makeup, I think you'll enjoy it. *g*

Well, you are waaayyy ahead of me in angsty dramas as I'm still a relative newbie in this.

I'm currently half way through QSS and it's about all the angst I can take right now. Hence everything else (not counting films - for some reason those have all been of the 'everybody dies' variety) I've watched recently have been more or less on the fluffy side. :)

QSS is fun. Dysfunctional but fun.

From: [identity profile] timescout.livejournal.com
Yup, gimme dysfunctional and angsty and I'm all over it. Guess I've found my niche. Only the particular brand of angst in QSS has proven a bit too much even for me so I have to consume it in small doses.

Talking about angst, have you seen the Korean film 'Romance'? It might just be up to your alley. ;) Two deeply hurt and barely functioning people meet and fall for each other, no happily ever after included. a somewhat lacking synopsis I found the film oddly beautiful. But then, I would....

But I like a happy ending :)

From: [identity profile] timescout.livejournal.com
No, one can't call the ending of Romance happy - inevitable is more likely. :) It's porbably my newly surfaced masochist tendences that found it quite acceptable though. Sigh.
