Utahime: episodes 5 and 6
Sep. 10th, 2008 12:42 pmI love this drama so much!!!!

Why does every episode of Utahime make me a little more incoherent than the last?

Also, after finishing ep 6, I am so preparing for the angst to hit.

After Croissant left, Taro backtracks a LOT when he sees Suzu and is all 'I just said it to scare him off. It's impossible for us to be a couple.'

She tells him she knows it's impossible. But his face at her confirmation. Awwww!

And then she pauses and gathers her courage and tells him, impossible or not, hearing it made her happy. OMG!

So adorable!

He wonders if he killed anybody during the war...

Morning after awkwardness. So adorable!!!!

Projectionist finally has his revelation that Suzu loves Taro. LOL. Slooooow!

So they ask him what his intentions are and (in a hilarious, adorable scene) whether he can 'take care of her temporarily forever.'

*swoon thud*

Heee. Croissant is such a dork.

James has got to be the biggest Taro/Suzu shipper ever!

Our first glimpse of mob leader's niece. She will become crucial later on.

This scene, where she volunteers to help him do dishes, almost did me in.

She play-shoves him and a dish falls and he starts picking up the pieces and cuts his finger:

SHE IS SUCKING ON HIS FINGER OMGOMGOMGOMG MARRY ME DRAMA!

I love how he sort of stops breathing:

For emphasis:

THUDTHUDTHUDTHUD

He is looking at her...swooon!

Looking at her bandage and wondering if, when he regains his memory, he will truly forgetSuzu sucking on his finger the pain. He totally is hesitant to get involved because he is afraid he will forget her. AWWW!

Suzu finds out Taro is going to a neighboring town so she wants to follow him secretly and then bump into him :)

Only to see him soliciting what looks like a lady of the night!

But when she returns dispiritedly home, it's actually her surprise birthday party and Taro went to that showy woman in order to buy a pearl necklace for Suzu. I think I sort of melted right there.

Very very brotherly looks, Taro. Yeah!

This is because I find his mouth really hot. Sorry!

Total dorks!

She is remembering him promising to buy her a pearl necklace when she is a grown-up.

So adorable!

And he is thinking and looking at his cut finger and then 'I might be neither here nor there, but I am still a man.' LOL. I knew your self-control would finally crack! I mean, come on, Suzu is the most adorable thing in history!

So adorable! He asks her to go shopping with him in neighboring town and is all, 'I have something to tell you.' SQUEEEEEE!

But while she is waiting for him at a tearoom, she is highjacked by mobster's niece, Miwako-san.

In looking for Suzu, Taro bumps into mob leader, who, oddly, invites him for drinks:

(Meanwhile Miwako-san decided to stay at the village inn)

During drinks and some hilarious conversation, it seems as if the mob leader is trying to probe without revealing too much, about Taro's past. And, possibly, connection to his niece Miwako.

(This bit was hilarious)

Meanwhile Suzu is worried Taro will be mad at her.

LOL!

Look at the picture Miwako has in her purse!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Awww, darlings!

Merry returned from Tokyo with hula-hoops!

She walks off with her new bf and Taro absent-mindedly mutters that the guy looks Russian because Russian soldiers had faces like that. Suzu's face, OMG! I think she is just as terrified of his memory returning as he is.

LOL, Croissant:

Taro teaches James how to change reels. Yup, movie fixated James is so going to be the one to make 'Utahime the movie.'

Meanwhile Miwako and Suzu have bonded:

Mobster shows up again and this time asks more pointed questions about Miwako and recieves no response. He mutters 'just as I thought, a lookalike' and leaves. Keep thinking that way!

Suzu remembers asking him if he'd go with someone from his past if he didn't remember them and his saying no and her making him promise.

She wakes up because Taro has passed out and she takes him to his room and HYPERVENTIALTION TIME ALERT. I took eight billion caps.

OMG, they sleep this way till morning!!!!!!!!!

Such dorks!

And so domestic!

Meanwhile. Mobster Uncle told Miwako about Taro and that he's most likely a lookalike but to check it out. You know, Miwako is an OTP-interloper, and I adore the OTP, but I don't dislike her at all. In fact, I feel a great deal of pity for her. She clearly had a relationship with Taro (or whoever he was before the war) and she has been mourning him for 10 years...
So she comes into the theater to try to sneak a look at Taro.

Taro is polite but clearly not interested and just as clearly does not remember her.

Suzu senses something is going on:

She tells her uncle that he might talk and dress differently, but it's definitely Yuu. And he didn't remember her at all, so it was as if he was really dead. And her Uncle tells her he will remember her if she is around. And Suzu's mom overhears and asks Miwako if she knew Taro before the war, and Uncle says Miwako is...Taro's wife. As Suzu's Mom stares and Taro obliviously changes reels. OMG. I can sense the OTP's angst about to hit, but as I said, I can't hate Miwako. I feel awful for her, actually. To see the man you love, your husband, the man you mourned for a decade completely not recognize you must be awful. Ah, I feel bad for everybody.

bring on ep 7 and the kissing!

Date: 2008-09-11 12:16 am (UTC)On the other hand...there's so many good things about this drama. I like domestic/living-together scenes in dramas, and I nearly died over your pics of the look in his eyes as he watches her during the birthday party.
I'm so torn. It's not even funny.
