He regains his memory and remembers he is married and has a child. So even though he loves Suzu, he can't leave his daughter, so he goes off to be with his wife, and he pretends he forgot their time together but he hadn't...

(But I think his grandson and her granddaughter hook up, and they are also played by Nagase and Aibu Saku, so this makes me feel better).
