Bichunmoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

I think this just might become my favorite period epic drama (it's not really wuxia, so I don't want to call it that).

Damo was excellent (and objectively speaking, probably better) but the politics lost me a bit. ROCH was swoonily romantic but with too many silly OTT fights and weirdos with odd beards. Handsome Siblings would have made for an awesome drama if it only followed Nic Tse's story. Butterfly Lovers is lovely but not yet completely subbed. Jumong is good, but once again, a bit too much politics for me.

Bichunmoo? So far, so perfect.

After the second episode, I am a bona-fide Jan-ho/Xiulie shipper. They are beyond adorable together. From the so funny first meeting where he is running away from an assassin and literally bumps into her. And then she makes him apologize and is all disdainful because he says he doesn't like fighting (so she assumes he can't and is a coward), to the later 'apology' and their hide-n-seek in the dying yard, they are so coltishly young, so immediate, so natural.

But the scene that really sold me is when he comes to have clothes for his uncle made and finds out she is the seemstress. And he wants to leave (because of their fighting) but she needs the money and so she apologizes and sweetly asks him to stay. And then she is measuring him (because she doesn't know it's for the uncle) and you just see how fixated he becomes, because she has to use her tape measure around his waist, or neck, or anything, and he is just so aware and it's probably the first time a girl touched him and...

so sweetly young. I love it. And then they drink tea and chat (she is lonely, as she only lives with her ill mother), They are so functional together.

And then comes the scene that sealed the deal. Because the magistrate's men come to take her to be the guy's concubine, and Jan-Ho knows he isn't suposed to fight (because the whole point is he shouldn't attract attention to himself as he is being hunted) but he can't let her be dragged away, and he tries to talk them out but it doesn't work, so he fights and defeats them very quickly (I love the fights here not being OTT btw) and I love the look on her face as she realizes how capable he is. And then they sit on the mountain and just talk for hours and it's so beautiful.

And oh...his 'Uncle' is beating him for disobeying and he says he couldn't let the soldiers take her and the Uncle is all 'you are not to go off the mountain again...it's not more important to save a girl than to learn the martial art and save lots of people' (ugh) and he is all upset. I love this drama.

We also meet Xiulie future husband, and yes, I love him. He is very awesome. Also smitten at first sight I think.

This is great as it's the best of Korean and Chinese dramas: less OTT stuff and more realistic fights (Korean), less politics and weirdos with bizarro beards (Korean), faster pace (Chinese), strong yet delicate fighting women (Chinese) etc etc.

Lovely.

This drama sounds GOOD in terms of romance, but what's the plot? Or is there none? :P

Perhaps I should watch it, whilst waiting for next ep of WWL to be translated...

Plot (this is movie's but they are similar)

It is 14th century Yuan Dynasty China, the country is under Mongolian rule and the star-crossed lovers, Jinha (Shin Hyun-june) and Sullie (Kim Hee-sun), illegitimate daughter of a Mongolian commander, are caught in the middle. When her mother died, Sullieƕs father, Taruga, took her away and later planned to marry her off to form an alliance with a powerful Chinese warlord. Things get worse when Jinha learns that Taruga was the person who ordered the massacre of his entire family. Fuelled by hatred, he masters his family secret martial arts, the Bichun Secret Art. Many top pugilists, who are also after the secret scroll, try to kill him. During one of such attempts, Junkwang, a rich and powerful son of a Han lord, helps Jinha. But fate has it that Junkwang is the person that Sullie is forced to marry. When Junkwang knows about their love, he plots to have Jinha killed.
