dangermousie: (Dr Who: Nine/Rose 'plus one' by shootmef)

I was showing S1 of Doctor Who to [livejournal.com profile] filmi_girl. We watched first four eps. EEEE!

I've forgotten how much I adore Nine and S1, my favorite of all new Who seasons. And how much I love Rose, and the Doctor's edge: part near suicidal desperation and part reckless, crazy, giddy joy as a means of distraction, and the exploration of what it means to be a space traveler and what it means to be human and not human, and the shipping (oh God, the scene in the sellar in the ep in Cardiff in 1869 with the Gelth makes my heart melt so so much) and Rose's family and everything.

Oh, everything!

I know I need to meta but I am so tired so a few caps instead, from my favorite scene in the first four eps.

Not sure what I love most: their determination to go down fighting, his blaming himself for putting her in danger and her responding it was not his fault (he so needs someone to tell him that about something), the handclasp, the mutual 'glad to have met you', the mad grins. I love that scene SO MUCH.

All caps are from here.

I love David Tennant, but Christopher Eccleston will always be my favorite Doctor.

I never saw any Dr. Who until a random marathon on the other day, and all the eps i saw had Rose (til her "death" ones) and I love her, and the show. I also love the dr, though i have no basis of comparison to the others. I want to start really watching it, though, where do I start with this current Doctor if say, I was looking it up on Netflix (which i haven't checked yet but I assume they have it?)

(not [livejournal.com profile] dangermousie, but i'll pay her in the comments. . . )

season 1 of the 'new incarnation' of the series is the place to start, with out lovely Christopher Eccelston as the Ninth Doctor. i'd start from there and work through the season so you can watch the development of the Doctor, Rose, adn their relationship.

but seriously, the first season is the *best* season. ;)

Agreed, S1 is best.

Start with S1 with Christopher Eccleston and continue with S2-3 (4 is not on DVD yet) with David Tennant. They should be on netflix.

I started watching Dr. Who when Christopher Eccleston was the Doctor, so Nine will always be my favorite Doctor and Rose my favorite companion. I loved that series: they had a bond from the word "Run!" and I loved them.

Agreed with every word.

I also love (and I've forgotten) how much of an equal she is: how she pushes back. Love!

I only checked out Who, years ago, in the first place because CE was going to be in it, so yes, Nine is my fave doctor, too. And I go fangirly about Rose to a crazy degree.

That was one of my favorite things about Rose: she pushed back and the Doctor really did treat as an equal. No, she wasn't as smart as him (or Companions he had had before and since her, but she had heart and was a fighter. Nine/Rose was just wonderful. But, so was Ten/Rose. Oh, how I miss Nine and how I miss Doctor/Rose.

Okay. It's now officially true. Doctor Who has completely taken over my life.

I started watching after my friendslist exploded over Stolen Earth and Journey's End and have been immersed in episodes and fanfic ever since. Better late than never, no?

What surprised (and pleased) me was how quickly, smoothly, and naturall the plot and characters developed. Given moments like this three episodes into the first season, how could anyone NOT ship the Doctor and Rose?

Yay! *so excited*

How far in are you????

how quickly, smoothly, and naturall the plot and characters developed

Exactly. That is some tight tight writing. And I can believe into Doctor/Rose bond even 3 eps in, which is pretty impressive.

how could anyone NOT ship the Doctor and Rose?

search me :)

I finished the first two seasons and am now sporadically making my way through the third and fourth. Depending on how things go, this might be all I watch but it's been a fun and excellent ride throughout.

Yay Doctor/Rose!

aiiii! i totally agree with Nine being the best ever and his whole desperate suicidal edge and being oh so much more broken in the sense of completely shattered than Ten. i've been rewatching the first season on weekends (as i'm doing document work. no really! i'm working!), and i realize i actually like Rose in these episodes (you know me and the lack of Rose love). she was so innocent and excited and just this bit of fresh air. really delight ful stuff.

and Tosh! don't forget sweet Tosh in there! ;)

Ten, after all, has been fixed up a bit.

This season is just so perfect.

Awww... Nine love.

My Doctor Who watching happens in a veryweird order but while Ten is my favorite Doctor (not by far though) Nine holds a special place in my heart because he was the one sucking me into Who in the first place. Everytime I find myself watching Season 1 eppies I just can't picture anyone else being the Doctor.

Oh and don't get me started on the Doctor and Rose's dynamics ever since the beginning. They're flirting and bickering and giggling and being adorable together and if I hadn't already been won over by them by the time I finally got around to watching the beginning of Season 1 I would've fallen in love with them right with that 'Run' scene.

Season 1 was really great, I agree. It was that perfect mixture of silly and serious, fun and emotional stuff. And my best eppies ever are in there. 'Father's day' still makes me cry and 'Bad Wolf/The Parting of the Ways' still remains my favorite finale. Oh and Rose was at her best in Season 1, me thinks.
