Here we go again!

I have seen the Premiere ep of Firefly on scifi (taped it yesterday and only now watched it). Loved it, though I spent the first 10 minutes trying to figure out who was who.

I love the sense that they aren't all honorable types, e.g. Simon refusing to treat Kaylee unless Firefly jumps away and saves him from arrest, Mal being ready to turn Simon over to the "cops." I like that Mal seems to have lost any religion back in Serenity Valley and that there is a weird attraction thing going on between Inara and him, and yet they snark at each other all the time.

However, seeing how derailed Buffy (that used to be wonderful) got, perhaps Firefly getting cancelled while it was still good isn't so bad. Nothing will replace Farscape as my No. 1, but this is pretty fun. (Is Book their Zhaan? Because Zhaan is hotter).

I think I have a new obsession. Here we go again...

Also, on the shallow end, mmmm...Mal.

P.S. Anyone know any good Firefly fic? No slash, angst is a huge bonus but not necessary.

I think it was less himself than River he was worried about. His devotion to his sister is touching, but at times verges on the disturbing...

As for fic... I know I once read my way through an archive somewhere, but I can't seem to find the link.

is an excellent overall fan site. There is some fic there, as well as links and recs (on the community board) to others. I can't remember any particular stand out stories, but quite a few that were enjoyable.

And I agree, Joss worries me sometimes. Though I think he could have pulled off more than one good season, given enough time I'm sure he would have broken up Zoe and Wash, gotten Mal and Inara together for one hot night only to kill her off, and so on :-(.

And Mal...yeah... :-)

The series was only getting up to speed when it was cancelled :P. I can't wait for Serenity the movie.

Yeah, it was the trailers for the movie and the fact that my best friend is a Firefly nut that got me interested.

Mal/Inara is my most favourite non-sunk (::glares at JKR for a second::) pairing. I get all swoony and OTP-y over them at the drop of a hat.

Yay Firefly! :] Oh, and where did the episode cut off? The DVD rip is seamless for the two-parter, so I don't know.

It cut off at Mal opening Simon's crate and seeing very naked, very fetal River. He went "whaaaaa?" I went "whaaaaa" cue credits.

I actually bought the set so me and husband (who was all "I wanna watch") are going to watch it later.

As to Mal/Inara, I could certainly go that way. It's certainly...unusual (she doesn't seem to be into giving up her profession, after all). Not my TV OTP (which is Farscape's John/Aeryn), but looks mighty promising.

You should prolly wait until you've finished watching the entire run for fic, you know, cos of spoilers.

And also because by then I will probably be done with my giant Firefly rec list.

I guess I should be more clear, my worry wasn't so much for you knowing what was going happen, but rather because a lot lot lot of Firefly fic are missing scenes and codas and stuff so a lot of it doesn't have the correct emotional impact if you haven't actually seen the episodes.

I've heard that. I know Farscape fans were very supportive when we were trying to save our poor doomed show.

Hee! Welcome! I absolutely adore Firefly.

Just read the first Serenity comic, a prequel for the movie - it's *exactly* like an ep, just (alas) shorter. So much fun getting a new fix.

And after watching last night's ep after not having seen any for a while, I'm just speechless that Fox decided to screen that one *seventh,* and to start with one that drops you down in the middle of complete "WTF?!" Loony...
