Still Pride fixated

I have no idea if anyone is reading these, but what can I say: I am addicted to blogging about Pride.
Today's eps? Are eps 8 and 9, i.e. the eps that step on
dangermousie's heart with cleated boots.
The scene of Halu on the ice, by himself, a key in each pocket (for Aki) with that ridiculous pink ribbon around it, whispering 'Game Over' with such a look on his face, always makes me sniffle.
And that's the thing, although it's eating at him, he is building walls again, isn't he? He does the whole 'party for my broken heart' thing (and I love that Tomo can tell he is totally covering up. Late Halu comments to him that if he believed in God, he'd hate him because he keeps taking away all the people important to him) and when he drives Aki back from it, it is so heart-breaking, for the both of them, her trying to tell him it was real, his babbling to cover up anything she might possibly say (and yet at the same time he so desperately wants her to stop him and tell him it's OK. I don't think he would ever be capable of begging someone to stay, not with his issues and fear of being abandoned, but I think he needs someone to beg him to do so). Yeah, they are in the territory if each word hurting (she uses a word 'mistake' once, later, and he tenses up as if she punched him).
I love his discovery of her writing 'Maybe, Love You' on a lightbulb she gave him. EEEEE!
I love the way Aki talks about Halu and ScumBF with Yamato. The way she describes her relationship with ScumBF makes it sound so polite, so bloodless, so not real: just facades and pretenses. And her relationship with Halu (I love how she thinks he swings between toughness and fragility. Indeed) seems real: complicated, messy, exciting, alive.
Speaking of ScumBF, how much of a scumbag is he? UGH. He pretends to Aki he does not want to know about Halu, but in reality, he plans to ask Halu (because he doesn't trust Aki, because he wants to appear magnanimous in front of her). Unlike Halu, who does not conceal his 'bad points' and is honest to the last gram of truth, ScumBF is all about appearances, about how he is perceived.
I love (yes, I realize I've began every paragraph of this write-up this way, but it's the truth) the scene between Halu and ScumBF, ScumBF trying to smugly denigrate anything Halu and Aki had, because he is so not her type etc etc. And Halu, being collected and not pretending. When he tells ScumBF, with absolute conviction, that what he and Aki had was based entirely on honor, I die...
Halu tells Aki that he told her ScumBF (and apologizes) and it's a total shock to him that she says it's OK, she plans to tell the truth. Easy path is never for Aki, either (despite her repeated insistences she is ordinary, she is anything but...)
And the scene with her and ScumBF makes me viscerally uncomfortable: ScumBF offering her an out, telling her that he knows Halu lied etc etc, and Aki refusing to compromise, refusing to lie. And OMG, when he hits her and she has a cut on her eyelid, the same eyelid Halu kissed so tenderly, and she is keening, terrified, and curled up, and he is not letting her escape, and holding her as her hands are almost clawing her face? (And not letting him touch that eyelid). It was horrifying. And the things ScumBF says are such classic domestic abuser things, too. OMG.
Everybody says Halu is harsh and ScumBF is so gentle, but Halu's manner might be rough but he treated Aki as if she was made of spun glass, and ScumBF? Should die.
And then the morning after, when Halu bumps into her and she is wearing a hat, and he realizes something is wrong and he pulls the hat off and sees the cut and she tries to come up with some 'washing dishes so this happened' excuse and he asks 'from him?' and touches it and OMGOMGOMG. And she tries to tell him it's just between her and ScumBF and he tries to eat and he keeps looking at her, and then he is practicing in the rink, but he keeps missing his goals because all he is seeing is the cut on her face and the way he used to kiss her.
I love so much when he walks to ScumBF's office and punches him out, entirely.I was cheering. So deserved, so right. Halu can't even think when Aki is hurt, can he?
But of course, he gets arrested for assault and battery (don't get me started on what I think of his coach btw, when he is all 'you threw away your career for a worthless woman.' WTF. Die. I do love Yamato's anguished reaction though, trying to get to him.) And Halu is weeping inside his cell, completely curled up in misery: everything is over, his career (and he is so dedicated to it, it's his reason for living), his relationship with Aki, everything. And Aki is outside, heedless of the rain, and all she keeps saying is, even though she can't see inside the jail, 'Halu is crying. Halu is crying.' OMG.
Oh, and on the Yamato/Yuri front, Yuri finally finds out he is not rich and well, what can I say? She's a bitch for a bit. I love Aki calling her out on it. Drunk Yamato, in Halu's apartment afterwards, is both a funny scene and a very sad one. He is as emotions-on-his-sleeve as Halu is not. It always kills me when he asks the new rich guy Yuri is dating to please be serious about her and consider marrying her. Oh Yamato. You are such an amazing guy. When he is pushed down the escalator? OMG. (Side note: how much do I love that Halu figures out something is wrong and goes for the GreenMonsters' captain throat. OMG). And his scene with Halu, when he finds out he might not be able to play hockey any more and asks Halu to leave and then is crying quietly? And Halu is breaking down outside, too, because it's his best friend? OMG.
I do love love LOVE that Yuri comes back to him, though, money or not. Yes girl, finally you got your priorities straight. Thank you.
