Not really. I have seen the drama it's based on and thought it was a rare, count-on-fingers-of-one-hand drama (Korean, Taiwanese or Japanese) that I've seen that was absolutely pitch-perfect, where I would not change a single thing, and which was seamlessly written and acted. So the thought of a remake is not making me happy. I know the plot (and them having to chop it up to fit into jdrama running time), I am familiar with the actors, I have seen the original, I think it's pretty OK for me to think I would hate it.
I dislike the thought of remakes on principle, and certainly when it's a remake of something I adore to bits and think was done as well as it could possibly be.
My irrational dislike of Ikuta Toma does not help. Eat a sandwich, please, Toma.
He is physically unappealing to me(scrawny and weird-faced) I find his acting unimpressive I don't find him charismatic on screen (as to sex appeal? Negative ten).
Now, for all I know he might be a great singer, or kind to starving children, but I am only evaluating him as an actor and as an actor, I really do not care for him.
I just love Mawang and don't want a remake. Mawang, Legend and a couple more kdramas are the only kdramas I don't want remade and they remade it. I mean, if they remake Kim Sam Soon or something, I am all for it. Or even a drama I like, like Coffee Prince.
Just leave four measly dramas I don't want remade (Legend, Mawang, Capital Scandal (which couldn't be for obvious reasons) and Goong (ditto)) alone.
My first exposure to it was a friend's manip of it, where she gave him Fabio hair. Later, she made another where she added sparklies. (I think it was her...there were 2 others in chat and they were laughing at it while I was sobbing over SGA)
If I had access to the one with sparkles, you would love me even more. (If you look in the coments, there's an icon with sparkles on the Cullens. Now just imagine that on the full cover.
I see! I am not sure if I like the cast in the Japanese re-make. No one can be as good as Joo Ji Hoon. But may be it will bring more interest to the original, which had unfairest ratings.
Now you feel my pain everytime there's a new version of HYD that pop out somewhere. Even if the end result is good, I always feel a pang because hellooo Hana Yori Dango, the manga, was my personal equivalent of the Sentimental Education. Somehow, I know I'll keep experiencing these pangs since everyone and their mother's dog seems bent on remaking HYD.
I love both Toma and Ohno to bits but I'm still all O__O about Maou. idk it's like Ohno is the minime version of Joo Ji Hoon. It just looks ridiculous. I can't take them serious. Toma is way too young for a role like that, anyway.
