Empire: Or history trampled into dust
Jun. 28th, 2005 09:18 pmI've only seen 15 minutes so far and am already laughing. Not that many movies can make me go "OMG, wrong!" in the first two seconds. But when they said that gladiatorial games only started with Caesar's time, or that Senate is wooing Romans with games (as opposed to Caesar), LOL.
Also, apparently Caesar is the long lost third Gracchi brother, as he wants land redistribution (!!!). Octavian is being set up for a star-crossed love affair with a Vestal (!!!!). Also, Cicero seemingly luuuuvs Caesar and Cassius and Brutus are as thick as really thick planks as they are doing everything but saying "we are going to kill Julius, is it OK with you?" to Marc Antony. They are trying to recruit Marc Antony of all people to their cause. Come on, they are not stupid.
Also, the arena is the smallest I've ever seen. And the gladiator is named Tyrannus. Well, hello Count Dooku. Nice to see you've survived Star Wars. This is horrible.
Also, apparently Caesar is appaerntly a revolutionary George Washington-type figure about liberty for all. Yeah, right.
ETA: Apparently Cassius just raped Octavian's mother. O-kaaaaay.

Date: 2005-06-29 03:05 am (UTC)I have an hour before it starts for me. I had been hearing bad things about it for a while now. HBO's 'Rome' looks a lot more promising....
