I think I died a little (found at soompi):

I am still on episode 10 of Que Sera Sera. In part, because [livejournal.com profile] filmi_girl and I spent the evening watching Legend and in part because the OTP is so happy, and you know it won't last, so there is a sort of irrational 'let's pretend it's the happy end here.' Though not really. You know doom and disaster are coming and it's like an approaching car, can't look away. In a way, it would be better if it already happened, fell apart, because then you won't be dreading it. Only my knowledge of a happy ending keeps me going, really.

I love how happy and functional the OTP is together though. They are just normal and relaxed. Tae Joo has been acting like such an awful mess and a jerk because of love he couldn't have and jealousy and everything else, you almost forgot that when they first met, he was a nice guy, friendly enough, and even teasing. Now the stressors are gone, he is back to that level of interaction. And Eun Soo is much more comfortable being uncomplicatedly in love than trying to get over one man, date another, deal with gf of both etc.

Side note: I am not excusing Tae Joo's appalling behavior. Even if your life is awful, that is no reason to lash out at others. Especially when you are largely responsible for the mess. But it's understandable and makes him not perfect but interesting, and he never whines in self-pity or feels he is the wronged one, which is the one deal-breaker I have in characters.*

The scene in the morning, where he is still asleep but she is awake, sitting on the floor by the bed, watching him? And then he semi-wakes and starts moving his arm around trying to find her there and getting a little anxious and she slips her fingers into his? *dies* And there is pulling on the bed and...

YES.

But I love that the drama shows that real-life complications don't go away after a magic night or three. They still have to deal with fallout for their jobs, and the exes and everything (oh, I feel so sorry for Joon Hyuk, he is such a good guy). And they want to get married!

Also, how much do I love Eun Soo telling off Secondary Girl. Characters always just take it, which drives me nuts, but not here.

But I can tell some sort of a snag is coming, not the least because TJ is such an alien to relationships.

Btw, the soompi thread on QSS is realyl excellent. People had good discussions in there, not just the usual 'oppa is so hot' stuff. I am also interested to note that I am not the only one who thought this had the Bali vibe.

Oh, and a thing that I was thinking of because of stuff in that thread. Liking TJ as a character (heck, liking all the messed-up mains in QSS) is not some sort of 'yay for this in real life' attitude. I can find him interesting as a character, even feel for him and sympathize for him because he is so fascinating and complicated, without wanting same in real life. In RL, any friend of mine wanted to date someone like that, I'd do anything to stop it. In RL, if I knew a guy attacked a girl the way TJ did with ES with kissing and horizontalness (seriously, so grateful it didn't go further), I'd think it's unforgivable. But in fiction, when you see the motivations, and when it's characters you follow? I don't think any character in this is praiseworthy but I like them as characters, I find them fascinating, and I am rooting for the crazy OTP to make it work.

Also got these at soompi

*That is why on this rewatch of The Legend my previous mild dislike of Kiha has been magnified to loathing. It's not that she does morally questionable things (She does, but so does Ho Gae and I adore him). It's the fact that for her, she never feels responsible for anything, never takes ownership of her actions. She always views herself as the poor, poor victim, blameless, not her fault, fault of all these others/circumstances/color pink/whatever, so she not only feels not guilty, she feels wronged when people don't worship the ground she treads on.

Ho Gae does some pretty awful things in the course of the drama, but he never feels self-pity, or views himself as a poor poor victim (and he's got a much rawer deal in life than Kiha). He takes responsibility for it, he acknowledges that it was his choice. He will accept the blame.

And the thing with Kiha is her passivity, her inability to actively do anything however rudimentary. She is all 'he didn't trust me' re: Dam Duk, but I am sorry, he trusted you, longer than any sane man would, but you kept proving him wrong and wrong and wrong. You are not Virgin Mary for him to keep viewing you as holy no matter what.

Let's count the ways in which she sucks even in eps 10-12:

1. Sujini comes there for you with a letter from DD. How about taking that moment to tell Sujini to tell DD that you didn't kill his Dad? Or in a letter?

2. You ride to meet DD even though Evil Elder (who is 2000 years old btw, and you know that, so shouldn't you try to be a bit smarter? Nah, too much work) explicitly tells you he knows you are going there. Do you even think about the fact that you'd be bringing a squad of assassins after you because Evil Elder wants to off DD? Naaaaaaaah. Too selfish.

3. Once there, you SEE what he believes (understandably so) and do you yell out 'I was followed, not me.' Nah, let's just stand and watch the man you profess to love and his sole remaining friend get slaughtered.

4. Once DD shows in the judgment hall, about to be tried for death of his Dad (and the trial is sword through the heart, so chances of survival are zilch), do you open your mouth and say what really happened in the cave? Naaaah. Moving mouth too exhausting. If Sujini was in your place, she'd move heaven and earth to save him, and she is not someone who has known him since he was 11, and she doesn't even realize she loves him yet.

5. When asked directly about what happened, you are all 'I'll answer if he asks me directly as opposed to asking the oracle to ask me.' Because stupid games are totally important at that moment.

6. When, despite your best efforts, the man has survived, you go visit him some time later to presumably tell him you lurve him/baby/no killing/whatever(btw, with that nifty fire power you could have left earlier, any time) and you see him with Sujini, drinking and laughing, so you go away because your love isn't important or strong enough to withstand seeing that? He might be falling for her, but that is the thing: fight for your love! And also, what they are doing, you need to be a super jealous psycho to go off about, because it's G-rated and they are acting like friends or siblings. But naaah, more fun to feel wronged.

Now that we've covered her awfulness to DD (Sujini can make DD smile no matter the awfulness, no matter the situation. She has his back. Kiha? Is like a giant human black hole), how about her awfulness to Ho Gae? "Ahhh, I am staying in this guy's house. He took care of me when I was sick. He repeatedly turned himself over for me, giving me dozens of chances to save DD, who is his mortal enemy, for my sake. He told me he cares for me. Should I notice him at all, even to say 'thank you?' Naaaah, too much bother. Is that a human voice I hear over there? Can't be. Just a stick of furniture. I don't really recognize other people unless I need to use them, and as to their emotions? Well, my shoes need wiping so that might be convenient."

UGH, hate.

Not to mention the whole thing with Sa Ryang. Lady, he is not your freaking slave. She expects people to do things for her, matter of factly, and they get into huge trouble because of it, but she can't even be bothered to acknowledge the fact.

Kiha, look up the word 'user' in the slang dictionary.

I love the reoccuring hand ..er, symbolism, I guess. He reaches for her hand in the rain scene before he says "Saranghae", she struggles her hand out of his, and in ep 10 his hand reaches for her on the bed and now she gives it to him. And there's a song on the soundtrack where the lyrics mention hands..

I think we're all conditioned to know things will go to hell if the OTP is happily together this early in a drama. Like there's just no way. XD

I didn't notice the hand thing, you are right.

Yup, it's either break-up or cancer.

I have never really liked Eric Mun as an actor for some reason, even though I did like Super Rookie (the first and only drama I recall seeing him in), but for this sentence alone, I am tempted by QSS now:

I am also interested to note that I am not the only one who thought this had the Bali vibe.

:D

LOL. So good.

Kiha, look up the word 'user' in the slang dictionary.
Love this even more :D

I agree with your thoughts. Kiha was incredibly weak at heart. She had a strong power but yet she doesn't make good use of it. Urgh >_>

Sujini can make DD smile no matter the awfulness, no matter the situation. She has his back.
This is one of the reason why I love Sujin/Dam Duk so much. [livejournal.com profile] alexandral was also saying that Kiha/Dam Duk always seemed to be wistful and sad. That's not how a relationship should be :D

Yeah, Bali was awesome.

QSS is the first thing I've seen Eric in, but it's supposed to be a different type of role from his other ones.

Yes, Kiha had all these abilities and opportunities and squandered them. Ugh.

And yes, DD/S are perfection.

I totally agree with your post! If I love someone..I'd fight and die for him not put a sword in his heart or anything that would hurt him!
