Before I start. Quick comment. What is with all the recent cooking dramas lately? I am not complaining as hot guy wh can cook is even better than a hot guy in general, but it does seem odd. First there is MatsuJun playing a chef in the jdrama Bambino. Then there is the twdrama Delicious Relationship, starring arguably my favorite drama boy Vic Zhou (and he better not die in this one!!!). And then there are the kdramas. In Witch Yoo Hee, Jae Hee is a Chef *dies* and then there is the upcoming Gourmet with Kim Rae Won where he also plays a chef. Hmmm. I like this trend.
I am considering checking a whole bunch of kdramas out. More about them below, but I think the 'new' kdrama for me will either be My Love Patzzi (it's only 10 eps and fluffy and I have a Kim Rae Won craving), Let's Go to the Beach (
alexandral loved it and I adore Lee Wan) or Smile Again (it sounds cute and stars Lee Dong Gun).

And here is the vid:
And another vid:
And after that, the next kdrama is Save the Last Dance for Me and Stained Glass as I want something utterly utterly fluffy right now so it will have to wait a week or so.
But anyway, dramas I am considering obtaining, with corresponding MVs.
As you see, a lot of numbers for some reason.
My Sister in Law is 19. It has cute boys, cracktastic fun and angst, too. The plot? Our hero is horrified to discover that the girl he has long been in love with has just gotten engaged to his older brother. He doesn't know it's an arranged agreement so she'd have money for her poor family and he'd be free of Mom's nagging to marry. So CUTE!
Then there is Sweet 18.
calledinvain thought it was sweet, it stars Lee Dong Gun and Han Jin Hye, and hey, prosecutor forcibly married off to a much younger girl? Heeeeee.
Then there is Hotelier (as mentioned earlier)
You know, I think I am beginning to get the Bye Yon Joon fuss. I have no idea if he is good-looking, but there is something really magnetic about him.
Then there is 18 vs 29 about a woman who wakes up forgetting everything that happened since she was 18. Her estranged husband tries to use this as an opportunity to win her back.
Then there is The Sweet Spy. A spy drama with the heroine an ass-kicking policewoman? YAY.
Then there is Say You Love Me with Kim Rae Won, because I am on a KRW kick and hey the whole, 'bad girl tries to break up the OTP by getting her bf to seduce the girl and to seduce the guy herself because she is whack' is kinda awesome in a 'Dangerous Liasons' sort of way.
There is also Life if Beautiful with Ha Ji-Won (Damo!!!) and Kim Rae Won but I didn't find any vids. I am also amused by the concept of Love Letter because heeeee, even Priests are not immune from lurve in kdramas. The hero is a Priest-in-training. Whoa.
And last note. My 'in progress' pile of dramas seems to be shrinking.
KOREAN (in order from most interesting to least):
Green Rose: I am seven episodes in. And I really liked it. I think I was going through burn-out at the time, so I stopped. But must start again really soon. Yes.
Sang-Doo, Let's Go to School: see above explanation. Also I wanted something angstier at the time. I know it gets angstier but it didn't hit yet. I am six or so eps in and must continue pronto. I mean, it's Rain!
Loveholic: I am nine eps. And it started dragging. I'll finish it eventually, but I am sort of dreading more angst, even with a happy ending.
TAIWANESE (in order from most interesting to least):
Hana Kimi: I am six eps in. I love every moment of it. I just want to wait a bit and get it on burned DVDs because I hate watching on computer unless I have no choice. This said, I might have to cave in really soon.
Smiling Pasta: I am about five eps in. I really like it, but I keep getting sidetracked by other dramas I fall in love with when this one is 'merely like.'
Tokyo Juliet: I finished ep 12. Unlike a lot of people, I really really like this drama. I am waiting for my DVDs to be shipped and I'll finish it all.
Magic Ring: I am four eps in. Plus? Gorgeous, angsty Joe Cheng. Minus? I hate the heroine and the subs are wonky. I'll finish it eventually but no rush.
Magicians of Love: I am sort of lost at to which ep I am on. Let me say 5? I like it but there is only so much crack and bad fashion you can take. Plus, my subs suck. I am going to get a version with better subs one of these days but no huge hurry.
JAPANESE (in order from most interesting to least):
Beautiful Life: I adore this drama, but I am a wimp, so I haven't finished the last two eps. I will though not really soon because I am still recovering from Snow Queen.
Nobuta Wo Produce: I don't really get the appeal of this but it's OK and I only have two eps, so eventually.
Dramas I haven't finished and never will:
Peach Girl: Arguably one of the worst dramas I've ever seen. Forget it. No freaking way.
Long Vacation: everyone loves it. Everyone but me. I tried for months and never got past ep 3. Maybe a long long time from now I'll try it again, but for now? No way.
Kimi Wa Petto: 7 eps in and I am rather bored still. Time to give up.
Silence: One of the best dramas out there. However, I skipped huge chunks of it because I couldn't deal with the angst. I am never going back to rewatch either because my reaction to Snow Queen is nothing compared to my reaction to the ending of Silence. Yes. I am a wimp.

Date: 2007-04-04 01:16 am (UTC)*sees Damo ref* Is that a new drama with Ha Ji-Won, or an old one? Does she live? Love Letter starts Soo Ae, the female lead in Emperor of the Sea, so I want you to watch and tell me how it is. *isn't demanding or anything* Oh, same applies to Green Rose...
There are DVDs with english subs for Tokyo Juliet? wwwwwhhhhheeeeeerrrrrreeeeeee???? I need them...and HanaKimi...and HYD2...and Meteor Rain(after I finish Meteor Garden...I have been thoroughly distracted by Robin of Sherwood and, to a lesser extent, Saikano)

Date: 2007-04-04 01:28 am (UTC)The HJW drama is really old (2001). She lives at the end. I'll get to Love Letter at some point though it's not super high on the list, and will let you know :)
Green Rose is really good (seven eps in).
There are DVDs with english subs for Tokyo Juliet? wwwwwhhhhheeeeeerrrrrreeeeeee????
I am trying a new *ahem* supplier, in addition to the usual one (who doesn't have it). If he works out OK, I'll let you know. I haven't seen Hana Kimi DVDs with subs anywhere yet. Meteor Rain is out there with subs...

Date: 2007-04-04 01:34 am (UTC)Yeah, I remember you talking about GR when you were watching it(and thinking it sounded like just my thing...but I'm waiting for a death toll accounting. i can handle "everyone dies in the end" as long as I'm braced for it...and it's not "just to have them all die in the end")
The usual supplier seems to be in an "off" period in terms of acquisitions. Which is really a good thing, as I'm not allowed to get new ones until the backlog gets whittled down a bit. Meteor Rain doesn't seem to be hard to come by, I just have to remember to get it(now that I'm watching and liking MG)

Date: 2007-04-04 01:46 am (UTC)As for Long Vacation, I'm sorry you didn't like it. I adored it, and I thought Kimura did a really wonderful job :) You must finish Beautiful Life, though. It's a sad but very satisfying ending. Very similar to how I felt at the end of Kamisama.
I finished Loveholic, and though overall it was okay, I got kind of disappointed 'cause things went from awesomeness (in the beginning) to a *yawn I need to move on* pace.

Date: 2007-04-04 01:46 am (UTC)only one i've finished in that list would be sweet 18, and i rather liked that one. it's very sweet and wholesome, and the two together are really funny. some parts are a little weird, cause of that age difference they have, but it was still good. plus the ending is very cute.
and as for the trend of cooking dramas, i noticed that, too and i'm totally for it! hot guys cooking are like the PERFECT drama guys to oogle over. i guys who knows how to get to your heart, AND your stomach =D

I like Tokyo Juliet. Not as good as Hana Kimi but still fun and he looks yummy in it. It's a silly fun drama that doesn't take itself too seriously (if you go to my 'tokyo juliet' tag, there should be some pics and write-ups if you need further convincing.)
If that is not enough? There is a bed scene. It involves the heroine, Wu Chun and handcuffs...

i've seen 18 vs 29 which was cute. i think i just watched it because i had no other kdrama to watch on tv then. *lol*
am so sorry that Kimi Wa Petto, Long Vacation, have "expired". those arent my favorites, but i don't dislike it.

Date: 2007-04-04 03:56 pm (UTC)One thing I noticed in the rewatch is that cooking is the ONLY thing we're not told Kiyotaka was so much better at than Ayumu(or if we are, we aren't told 10 times...) Kaoru is another I thought of, but anytime asian guys and cooking comes up, I flash to Ayumu(the impression I get is that Madoka and Hiyono aren't BAD cooks...it's just that when choosing between their food and the food they can weasel out of Ayumu, they'd rather have the borderline master chef's food. And really, I view being raised by Madoka the last couple years as his training for the next 50 or so years with Hiyono...) I guess I flash to him in most anime its the girl's a bad cook and the guy's food is just more edible, as opposed to the girls are probably just fine, but Ayumu is amazing. Hmm...in InuYasha, though, Kagome is a good cook, though the food that gets the most praise is her mother's.

Date: 2007-04-04 08:42 pm (UTC)Oooh, I honestly have no idea what to say about this drama.
I watched it just a couple weeks ago and marathoned it in about two days. And the first half I loved. Enough to marathon the whole series in about two days. And the drama as a whole is very meaningful and touching and everything. Not to mention adorable guys (Who look very, very good in black even if it is in the priests' dress) and an awesome, awesome heroine. Plus all the drama you've come to expect from kdramas X100000000000.
But it is Very. Very. Angsty. The kind of angst where you need at leat a hundred tissue boxes and a pound of chocolate - Per episode - just to repel the urge to smash in your computer and/or break down into hysterics. And the ending? Is very beautiful and touching. But could be potentially disappointing, depending on your preferences.

Date: 2007-04-04 09:38 pm (UTC)Dito. What were they thinking?
Kimi Wa Petto: 7 eps in and I am rather bored still. Time to give up.
Hmm, how'd you make it that far? I watched the first 3 eps and still, no click.
Magicians of Love: I am sort of lost at to which ep I am on. Let me say 5? I like it but there is only so much crack and bad fashion you can take
I watched 1 ep. It was alright, but I don't know if I'll pick it back up.
Loveholic: I am nine eps. And it started dragging. I'll finish it eventually, but I am sort of dreading more angst, even with a happy ending.
We're on the same ep, but I'm sure I'll finish it eventually. Especially if it has a happy ending.
I highly recommend My Sister in-law is 19 and Last Dance. I really liked them. I will say the ending of 19 left me feeling kinda cheated though. Sweet 18 was too corny for me. I was so surprised to learn that the leads were actually married.Oh and I finished Wedding and I think it's a must watch. It's not just funny, sweet, and romantic, but very realistic. The endings a plus as well!

And as of now Wedding goes on the list!

Date: 2007-04-04 11:45 pm (UTC)But...spoil me! How does it end?
no subject
Date: 2007-04-05 12:41 am (UTC)But, okay . . . spoilers!
The gist of the ending is that she recovers miraculously from her heart failure (Her heart was failing but she ended up getting a transplant) and he becomes a priest.
It's very deep and touching and everything, because he gives this whole speech to the Archbishops (when they're testing him to decide if he should become a priest or not) about how, yes, he loves her. But he believes that God showed him true love for a reason (So that he could in turn share this love with others).
And the last scene is very awesome in a completely angsty sort of way. Because she's just woken up from her surgery-induced coma and he's there. And he's wheeling her out to Their Spot On The Beach in her wheelchair and it's just this beautiful, quiet moment. And so they go on loving eachother. Except he's a priest so obviously they can't really be together. But I think it's more of an 'I'll always love you and you'll always be a part of me' way.
So . . . . very touching and everything. But no fluff. At all. And when I was watching it I remember feeling like there wasn't really any resolution.
So overall, it's completely angsty. And angst is usually awesome because it usually just makes the happy endings even better. But with Love Letter I felt like there wasn't really a happy ending (Even though it was supposed to be) so for the angst kind of outweighed everything else.
