Mr. Mousie and I saw Ridley Scott's American Gangster, with Russell Crowe and Denzel Washington.

IT WAS AWESOME.

The packed audience seemed to think the same.

This is one of three movies (so far) this year I loved (the other two are Jesse James and 3:10 to Yuma). So AWESOME. I hope it gets a slew of Oscar names.

Russell Crowe, who played the DA Richie Roberts (probably the hottes Jewish boy evah :P), after Denzel's drug lord Frank Lucas, was awesome as always (and real life is weirder than fiction, I swear. Look at this wiki entry). Seriously, has he ever been bad in a movie?

And, odd as it seems, this is my first ever Denzel movie. He was incredible ans I really hope gets every award in sight. He is also damn hot. I have no idea how I overlooked his movies before (yes, I know I am from another planet). Any recs?

oh, god. Um.

Man on Fire. Fallen. The Bone Collector. For SF cheese, Virtuosity. Much Ado About Nothing (the Branagh version). Glory.

...and St. Elsewhere, since I'm feeling nostalgic. Sadly, I don't know if the series has made it to dvd yet. *g*

I saw it the other day and thought it was pretty awesome, best Scott movie in a while, wait do you mean you've never seen any movie with Denzel in it before???

heh, it's just he's one of my favorite actors. as is Crowe, for that matter.

hmm, Denzel is always good no matter what film he is in but sometimes he has been in films that aren't as good as he is, off the top of my head some some of his better flicks-

Malcolm X is a must simply for his performance, he's also good in other Spike Lee movies like Mo' Better Blues and He Got Game. but not everybody cares for Lee's movies. oh and Insane Man of course, another good Lee flick. plus Clive Owen!

Devil In A Blue Dress

Out Of Time

Glory

Training Day
- more for the performance than the movie, but the movie is entertaining.

Mississippi Masala - a Mira Nair flick, he's really hot in this one I think...

The Hurricane

Philadelphia

Cry Freedom

A Soldier's Story

Remember the Titans is hokey but I love it anyway.

hmm if I think of any more I'll let you know;)

I enjoyed him in The Inside Man, because it has the added bonus of Clive Owen :)

Although, as you said, he's brillant in everything.

Inside Man! I loved that film, and it contributed to my Bollywood craze by playing 'Chaiyya Chaiyya' as the beginning and end theme. Also, it sowed the seeds of my acknowledgment of Clive Owen's acting ability/charisma.

Much Ado About Nothing, one of my favourite Shakespeare plays and it has bonus Emma Thompson and Keanu Reeves(I like to look at him).

I didn't really enjoy Fallen but everyone else did. And he looks very nice in it.

And Malcolm X, of course.

Everybody does need to see Glory. Also has Cary Elwes and Matthew Broderick, plus Morgan Freeman.

... Denzel was in MISSISSIPPI MASALA?

Clearly, I was not paying enough attention while watching this movie.

I am such an idiot. I saw Philadelphia and loved it. But I think I blocked out everyone but Tom Hanks because he rocked in that movie so much.

And I did see Much Ado. I fail at memory, clearly :)

heh, well, Hanks is awesome in it, but I'd say Washington is pretty awesome as well as the (Johnny Cochrane inspired) lawyer.

I haven't seen Much Ado yet, but it's on my ridiculously long list of movies I will see at some undetermined point in the future.

Broderick's good in Glory though. but he uses one of the oddest accents, ever, in film history,I think, the character he portrays was from Boston but he doesn't really sound like, well,he doesn't really sound like he's from anywhere in it. apart from DW, there are some really great performances in this film, Elwes is good, Morgan Freeman is excellent and it also features one of my all time favs, Andre Braugher, in a small role.

I wanted to see it when it was out it at the theatre, but I missed it. I have this problem of not getting around to renting stuff, as I greatly prefer seeing films at the theatre and I don't currently have a netflix account. but I should get one again because it would actually force me to watch stuff at home!
