Also, another scene that really got me at my second viewing was Anakin being turned into Vader-in-the-suit. It looked horrifying. And the fact that he was conscious during it all is awful. The fact that they couldn't have used any external anesthetic on him because all of his nerve endings were burned away is even worse. And you could see that he just wanted to die (because of the pain and despair) but had no control at all, even when the mask was lowered on him.

I never really wondered much about how Vader ended up in the suit, but now if I rewatch OT, I'd keep thinking about Anakin being forever trapped.

Best friend has made the comment that she can't watch OT now and be that scared of Darth Vader because she still thinks of Hayden and how sweet he was before he turned. Personally I feel more pity for him now (and a little more horror too when I watch OT Darth Vader cut a swathe of destruction through the movies) because I remember Anakin and that he was a good person at one time. The NT has undermined a lot of the fear and awe that Darth Vader used to inspire.

Oh yes. I do feel a lot more pity now, because just as inside the suit there is Anakin, inside the evil Sith there is a good man.

Makes me sad. And I agree with the horror feeling as well: it shows how much he has fallen.

When the mask is lowered over his face, I was terrified for him. It's so claustrophobic, so encompassing...such a trap of enslavement. His eyes widening as it comes down makes me sob. Of course, a large portion of ROTS does that to me. The OT will never be the same because so many of us will think of Anakin, forever burning on the side of the mountain on Mustafar, locked in hatred with his Master, encased in the jewel box of the Sith.

Until Luke sets him free.

Oh yes. You see that he is terrfied and that the suit is not a help, it's a prison.

In a way thus he is branded forever and can never escape because of his unique look.
