Fruits Basket owns me

Yes, I am rereading bits of volume 18 of Fruits Basket. It's still amazing.

I was making scary noises (ehough to wake Mr. Mousie) when I got to the 'If I don't kill you, I'll kill myself.' --Haru to Akito. OMG OMG OMG.

Oh Haru. Confronting the horrible monster over Rin when Akito is God (some deity!) is amazing. And I love Kureno. He finds and rescues Rin even though he knows what Akito will do. He is kind but not weak. He pities Akito which makes him a better person than me.

No Akito, they don't have to love you. Love must be earned and you have not done so. The only thing you earned is a kick in the face.

Yeah, I'll have proper meta. Akito is really good at 'it's not my fault, it's yours.' UGH. STAB. I love that Haru almost choked Akito to death and if Kureno wasn't there, who knows, he might have. I think it really shows just how integral Rin is to him and how protecting her is so ingrained into him. Because seriously, the Juuinshi are tied to Akito and can usually only take the abuse or comments or what not (Hatori couldn't even blame Akito for his eye!), but Haru is so fixated on Rin, and caring for her, that he manages to get past that psychological and emotional and mental barrier in a lot of ways in that scene.

I love when Akito is all 'you are close to Rin because you pity her, right?' and Haru is all 'No, it's because I love her. You know that.' OMG OMG OMG. When he knows what happened when Hatori said something similar. (Akito's 'how can you love her when I hate her' thing makes me want to tear the bitch's head off).

And how much do I love that Kureno catches up with Haru who is totally freaking out falling apart level and is (GUUUH, love Kureno) telling Haru to go see Rin in the hospital and is all 'she will totally want to see you' and then he explains the basis for the belief when he says 'because the first word out of her mouth [when Kureno got her out of the cat's room, where Akito stuck her and which is literally a hellhole] was your name.' OMG OMG OMG. I love the panel with the near unconscious Rin going 'Haru' as Kureno picks her up.

OMG OMG OMG.

Of course, Haru is falling apart because he's always been so fixated over protecting Rin and now he thinks it's his fault because she is being punished for loving him and he is freaking out that some part of him always knew it would be like that but he still hugged her and wanted her etc etc.

OMG.

Heh...I'm only managing to keep up with 1 set of scanslations, Full Metal Alchemist, and most scanslations on my computer are for when i figure out how to make good icons from B&W scans.

The thing that Akito doesn't seem to realize is that for every action there is a reaction. If he does something horrible, it drives everyone away. S/he cannot lord it ovr everyone without consequences. She slept with Kureno and drove Shigure away. She is being a monster to Rin to keep Haru but that is driving Haru away more than anything else can. The thing that drives me the maddest is she seems puzzled as to why the Juuinshi don't love her. The way she treats them, it's amazing they don't gang up to murder her.

And of course Haru, who is all about responsibility and protecting others isfeeling beyond horrible because he thinks he's responsbible for what happened to Rin, the person he cares for above everyone else. Argh.

I was seriously gibbering at the computer.

The thing with Akito, it's totally twisted abuser logic, the 'look what you made me do' thing and it makes my blood boil. And of course, nothing would freak Haru out more than thinking that Rin got hurt because of him. I mean he is generally protective but with her it's super super basis of his existence for her to be OK.

And the thing with Akito, she has a supreme talent for knowing exactly what to say which will hurt the most. Her words almost got Haru to do a Rin Mark 2 and give up on Rin to save her. (I just hope he never finds out she agreed to be locked up in that room forever so he won't be blinded. That really would make him feel so guilty he'd have trouble dealing). I love Kureno there, who is so mature and awesome and just...the thing with Kureno, because he is so nice, it's easy to forget he isn't weak at all. And I think part of the fact that he does love Uo but can't go and be with her really gives a sort of urgency to his words to Haru.

I hate Akito entirely too much. I hate it when she is cruel to anyone, but it especially flips me out when she is cruel to Yuki (because he is so sweet and open and was a small child for goodness' sake) or Kyo (who has just had so much to deal with it's incredible he isn't in a padded cell and who has so little and Akito is just enjoying trying to destroy him), and Akito's conduct to Haru flips me out almost as much because Haru is probably the single nicest character, and the most caring and protective and to have Akito pick on him...UGH.
