Hmmm, so the head of the Sohma family is someone named Akito. Haven't met him yet but he doesn't sound too awesome as he seems a little trigger happy about erasing people's memories and he told child!Yuki that if normal people found about the Sohma family curse (all the boys turn into animals when hugged by members of the opposite sex) they would be disgusted. He doesn't sound very nice (but is bound to be hot, heh). Also, that makes no sense. All those kids are obviously someone's offspring so at least some women didn't find it icky. Unless they are inbred :D Well, we'll see about Akito.

Ooooh, met Kyo! Heee. He is so very boy, you know. I can see why you like him, meganbmoore as he reminds me a little of Sano from Kenshin.

I decided I adore Yuki. I love the reserved types and eeee, he seems so suprised Tohru would want to be his friend after finding out the secret. Awww. I could see myself shipping them if I didn't know who the OTP is.

Kyo and Yuki fighting on sight reminds me of the whole thing in Ouran with Honey and his brother. Heh.

You know, she is living in a house with two (now three) hot boys, but I am not getting a reverse harem vibe here or anything. In fact, if anything, this makes me think of her being a den mother. Sort of like Wendy with the Lost Boys. They don't seem to have any mother figures and no earthly clue of how to cook or anything :D

This is awesome.

P.S. Does it mean no men in Sohma family can ever be hugged by their Mom or sister or gf? Sucks. Well, they can clearly do other things though :P

I'm up to ep 8 of Fruits Basket :) Yuki is also my fave, but now I am starting to see how Kyo would suit Tohru better ^^

As for Akito? I still don't get why he's the head of the Sohma family. Gives me the shivers >_>

Yes, Kyo and Sano ARE rather alike? Brash temperamental hothead with inner sweetie and brutal and messed up but still noble and obsessively devoted to their woman are my types...though I'm always up for just a plain welldone good old badboy(I wonder if this is why I don't date?)

Akito is evilhorriblenogodrotenneedstoDIEDIEDIE pond scum. He hurt Tohru mentally and physically...I don't CARE if she bounced back with the power of a thousand energizer bunny powered bouncing beans and forgave him I won't forgive him(he's one of only 2 manga/anime characters to earn my pure hatred for hurting a character who isn't even my favorite...the other is the evilhorriblenogodrotenneedstoDIEDIEDIE pond scum president in Full Metal Alchemist and his traumatizing my poor woobie Al)

The parents part gets explained...it's partly the curse, which affects how the mothers feel, and partly scum!Akito being a control freak and wanting them all to suffer.

The vibe with Tohru and all the Sohmas is motherl, even towards scum!Akito, who does not deserve it(the depths of my hatred knows no bounds)

The Sohmas affected by the curse can be hugged by Sohma blood relatives, even several generations removed. The cursed ones aren't always born to people with the curse, either. But yes, 2nd and 3rd and such cousins tend to hook up(there's a kiddie OTP that are 2nd or 3rd cousins and are absolutely darling, though I had to forgive him for being mean to Tohru at first)

Akito being the head is part of the curse...he's a figure in the mythology and has a pretty tragic lot for it...I'd feel bad for him if he weren't scum who devoted his life to making everyone else in his life miserable.

Akito is a wretch...one of those who thinks everyone has to suffer because he does and has the power to make sure they do. Since Tohru makes his various cousins feel happy and like they're actually, you know, worthy of being alive, she's a threat to him. So he does something(I can tell you the only slightly spoilery basics) that puts him eternally on my hate meter to Tohru(not that I would have liked him anyway)

I'm reading the manga. The first started with the Indonesian version, but then the English version turned out to be much more animated in language.

I have continued to adore Yuki and was initially really rooting him and Tohru. But... Kyo IS also really appealing in his own way :)

I got the sense that neither Kyo nor Yuki really felt 'worthy' of anything before (though Shigure seems well balanced but then he is much older). Ohhhh. Poor woobies.

Unlike Kyo and Yuki, Shigure was able to bond pretty closely with 2 other zodiac members, Hatori and Ayame, though he(and they) still have some pretty deep seated issues, they've just found outlets.

the anime covers roughly vol 1-7 then makes up its own ending. IMO, it's likely the ending the mangaka would have written if she had to end it then(who knows, maybe they asked her to help with it) IMO, it's the best "for the anime" ending of a series that started out to cover the whole manga.

i'm...oddly fond of nakago. *hangs head* but at least Watase backs me there. Kagami should have just up and quit whining and met a nice girl. Heck, he had a nice girl and obsessed over his cousin instead.

See, I loathe Nakago. It's basically 'fine, you had trauma. Stop trying to recreate that trauma in others.' The way he went after Tamahome, trying to turn him into Nakago mark 2, with the murder of his family, with the rape of someone the boy loved (though he gets points for not actually raping Miaka but just making her think he did), trying to break him in every way possible. Not to mention the way he was hurting and manipulating everyone else as well, and the creepy s/m fetish with getting off on really hurting the other person (the bit where he licks Tamahome's cheek telling him that in such a condition (broken bones etc etc) he excites him? Yikes). Tamahome is able to feel pity for him at the very end, finding out what his life has been, but he is a better person than me. I still find it no excuse. An explanation perhaps, but no excuse.

Kagami? I wish his mom hit him harder, is all I am going to say.

yeah...all that that you listed off is why the head hanging. sometimes you just like characters you shouldn't and can't explain it...

BTW, pace your self on the manga...it only comes out every 3-4 months, though i THINK it just wrapped up in japan, some maybe it'll pick up.

viz is much nicer to me...i get a new hana kimi and a new basara on alternating months, for the most part. tokyopop feels like once in a blue moon in comparison.
