The art of the trailer
May. 7th, 2005 04:12 pmI saw 5 trailers yesterday before KoH, and I found it interesting to compare
Trailer 1:
Revenge of the Sith. The best one of the bunch. This is my 4th time seeing it on big screen and it looks better each time. By the end of it I founf my fingers were interlaced and I was gripping my hands SO hard. I can't wait.
Trailer 2:
The Cinderella Man. If it wasn't for the fact that it has the amazing Russell Crowe, I'd never watch the flick after this trailer. Really. "When America was on its knees, he brought us to our feet?" What is it, Seabiscuit by the Numbers? And the sentimental gushy thing was laid on so heavily it made me want to throw something at the screen. It yelled "look at me, I am Heart Warming, Life Reaffirming. ALL in Capitals."
Trailer 3:
Batman Begins: second time to see it in the theater, and like RotS, it got better each time. I love the darkness and the angst and the Liam Neeson factor.
Trailer 4:
Mr & Mrs Smith. It's like demented Spy Kids, didn't make me want to see it more (like RotS and BB) or less (like TCM). But sexy Brad and Angeline beating on each other sounds like a fun non-opening day dumb fun
Trailer 5:
Zorro 2 (or whatever it's called). It was actually excellent trailer-wise as it moved it a few spots on my top 25 list. Maybe it's just angsty Antonio Banderas working his thing.
So in conclusion: angst and fighting rules. And if I want sap, I'd get it from a tree, the Cinderella Man people!

Date: 2005-05-08 05:00 am (UTC)I took your advise and watched KOH.....since I'm a tad inehbriated (or whatever) right now...all I'm going to say is LOVED IT.
I saw the trailer for ROTS too (actually most of the trailers you saw I saw too...lol)...it was awesome I swear to you my mouth gaped open through the whole thing.
The only one that was different from what you saw was the one for New World (I didn't get to see Batman Begins....) with Colin Farrell. I had seen it before and I think it could be good. It's about the 1607 expedition into what became Virgina (or whatever, again I remind you I'm f*cked up....sorry).
I saw the one for Mr. and Mrs. Smith...it looked funny, but with all the scandal that Pitt and Jolie are causing, I'm not sure I want to see it, those two are annoying to me right now.
Zorro: Hmm...I'm still not too sure about that one, with Antonio Banderas not being as young as he once was, ya know what I mean?
Oh and I guess we got jipped one 'cos I just realized that we only saw four trailers instead of five because we didn't get the Cinderella Man one....:P

Date: 2005-05-08 05:14 pm (UTC)I agree with you on the Cinderella Man trailer. Ugh. That trailer is kind of like mini-torture to me. xD
Mr. and Mrs. Smith...there is only one word for this movie: hot! lol I want to see it, but only because Brad and Angelina are prettifuls together. *is shallow*
They stole the Pirates of the Caribbean music for the Zorro trailer, which greatly amused me. I kept waiting to see Captain Jack pop up somewhere! But the trailer is really well done, and I enjoy the first one (their dancing scene is gorgeous), so I'll probably see it.
And then...then there's the ROTS trailer. They showed it last and I was so excited, I was literally gripping my seat. It was the first time I'd seen the trailer on the big screen and it's amazing seeing how sweeping all the scenes are and!ah! I just can't wait. Plus, you know, movie-screen high Hayden isn't too bad. hehe
Have you seen the trailer for Goblet of Fire yet? I have my issues with the HP movies (though I do love Dan as Harry), but this one looks very good.
I love how articulate this comment is. This is what happens when I get excited. :D

Re: Banderas. Older maybe, but still sexy :)
