Snow Queen: not your Mother's Hans Christian Andersen

Now that I've finished My Girl I think I will watch Delightful Girl Chun-Hyang. It's by the same writing team so it MUST be good. Either that or Nobuta Wo Produce but for some reason I am less keen on jdramas than I am on kdramas and tdramas. Must be Bollywood lover in me.

But that is not what the post is about.

After watching Millionaire's First Love (like Walk to Remember with 17 times more angst and pretty leaves, on acid), I wanted to see the male lead, Hyun Bin, in something else. I found out he is the currently airing Snow Queen (also called 'Queen of Snow') which sounds deliciously emo. It's been picked up for subbing. It's inspired by Andersen's fairy tale but I think someone forgot to tell the TPTB of this that Kei and Gerda weren't siblings (OMG, how I loved that fairytale when I was little).



The plot involves Bo Ra, a troubled rich girl, with a variety of behavioral illnesses (of doooooom. She is clearly not long for this world) and her star-crossed love with Tae Woong, who is a third rate boxer with the obligatory angstoriffic past. Considering it's brought to you by people who did dramas like 'I am sorry I love you' and 'Winter Sonata,' we can expect mondo angst, amazingly beautiful cinematography, lots of crying, childhood love, and possibly, if we've been very good this year, a joint suicide. I am in!

Also some of it was filmed in New Zealand. And looks pretty.

But who am I kidding? This is basically an excuse for me to post a lot of pictures of Hyun Bin in boxing gear, rocking the manpain.

Ooh. I had heard about this series a while back, but now that it's been picked up for subbing, I could be persuaded to start watching. The only thing holding me back, though, is that "I'm Sorry, I Love You" was this incredibly extended angst fest, and I'm not sure if I have the constitution for something like that at the moment. Oh, and also, the "Winter Sonata" connection presents a hurdle; after all, you know how I feel about Bae Young Joon and his big blue scarf of ANGST.

Oooh I love how scruffy he looks here compared to his clean cut look in My Lovely Sam Soon. In A Millionaire's First Love, he was still pretty clean looking despite the long hair. But here...he's got the little facial hair going on...and with the boxing gear he seems very Rain-in-A-Love-To-Kill...

Mmmm. :) I can't wait to see this drama! I haven't seen a Cry Your Eyes Out drama in a while. I'm currently watching Smiling Pasta and who could cry watching that delightfully silly and colorful little show? :P

Smiling Pasta is adorable. I am still at the very beginning (3rd ep, I think) because I keep getting sidetracked, but He Quin=LOVE.

I know--Hyun Bin looking scruffy might be a powerful impetus for me to watch this series. Also, in unrelated news, someone just sent me this song from the UK version of Omarion's new album, and get this: IT FEATURES RAIN. Singing in English. And it's not bad! I've got his Korean albums, and had heard he was trying to break into the American market, so this was quite a surprise. I'll send you the link if you're intrigued. :)

Here you are. I kind of love this song. It wigs me out in a "whoa, so this is what it would be like if the artists on my playlist collided" sort of way, but not in the "OMG KAT-TUN AND BONO DID A DUET" sort of way.

Haha yeah I think a full beard would be a no-no. We want to be able to see his gorgeous face right? :D

And for some reason, as much as I love Smiling Pasta, I too keep getting side tracked and it's taken me a very long time to get as far as I am (episode 7 I think) where as Goong and Full House took me...maybe a week or less, lol. Goong took me a ridiculously short amount of time, especially having been 24 episodes!! I can't even remember how many I watched a night. As many as megaupload.com would let me download, lol. :D

Re: SP. I think because while the characters are nice, I am not madly in love with them (I adore He Qun, but it's just not the mad crazy I must see more love if it makes any sense) and the drama isn't high yet...
