So.
I finished A Love to Kill.
Yeah.
Yeah.
YEAH.
autumn_yaar, which Bolly movie did the ending remind you of (as you mentioned)? The only one I could think of was Fanaa because of the snow and because they really did destroy themselves for love.
Oddly, I didn't feel dreadful about the ending, even though it made me cry. That was the only way they could be together, and that shot of him cradling her body, all wrapped around her is...Oh. My. God.
I lied. I am crying again.
I did love that she opened her eyes at the very end, because it meant she knew he was there with her. And OMG, when he was trying to warm her up and yelling her name, and how the protection chain just dropped and OMG OMG OMG.
Seriously. It's hard to write coherently because I am having to pinch myself not to cry.
There is no way they could have lived together. It's clearly indicated by the fact that they are falling apart after Mingu's death despite (or because) Mingu's blessing. Because a part of them wanted him dead, and a part of them wants each other so badly and despite the whole 'she is your brother's love' etc etc, he wants her and he can't stop and vice versa. And the fact that Mingu knew about the love just makes it all the worse...
I think my very favorite scene in the whole thing is when they decide to never meet each other again, and then he runs after her and he tells her: 'If I am to be punished, I'll take it. If people will throw stones at us, I'll get hit. If there is a hell, I'll go there. Let's forget who you are and who I am. Let's be crazy. Let's run away together.'
And the do, and they agree to have one perfect day and never see each other after but have no regrets during that day and it's heartbreaking and adorable because they are so happy and they laugh so much and you can see what could have been if they met under other circumstances, because they are perfect together. And they ask each other every question they can think of, to know each other better, everything from least favorite food to shoesizes, as if they must (and they must) cram everything about each other, years of living together into one day. I nearly died when in response to her asking him when he first began to love her, he told her 'from the first moment I saw you.' Or when she asked him what he wanted to be when he grew up, he said 'good father' (considering Daddy Dearest he had).
But the thing is, it can never be. Mingu is always between them. They pretend they can have more than one day and they keep repeating 'I can do it' but they both know they are lying. Their guilt would eat them alive. And they say they can have normal lives when they part, but they are deluding themselves. He is hollow that year after that day, becoming an automaton, and she can't take it and basically disappears (as she said earlier she wanted to, go deep into mountains where no one would find her) and freezes to death because she has no strength to live. They can't be with each other, and they can't be without (I love the much earlier scene where Da Jeong tells Eun Seuk she should be with Bokgu and ES keeps saying 'no no no no no' and with every 'no' she proves her impossible desire to do so as stronger and stronger.)
I feel so bad for Jun Sung, the fiance. I ended up loving him and I hope he finds someone who will love him and take good care of him.
But in the final analysis, all I am really thinking of, is that last image of them. Curled around each other in the snow, at peace at last and yet...
Fuck. I am crying again.

Date: 2006-09-02 06:44 am (UTC)But the thing is, the guy in the side couple was one of the rare fictional characters who I both found hot and would consider good bf material in RL, and the leads ended up making me want to smack them because their angst was slef inflicted and he was always in control and she was a total dishrag.
But the side guy ended up dueling with the side girl's father (don't ask) for her, and not letting her 'seduce' him because she clearly was acting out of last-minute panic when she thought she'd have to immigrate and never see him again and he told her remarkably common sense things like 'you don't have to try to force to create couply things to mark your territory' etc etc
And the side girl actually smacked the male lead (yay!) and told him he was being a bastard, and she helped the side guy defeat her father through a tricking thing...

Date: 2006-09-02 05:21 pm (UTC)Of course, once he saw she was dead, he wasn't particularly interested in saving himself as the only reason he was going on was to keep his promise to her. Honestly, I wish they were a little less honorable about the dead and moved in together and had some happiness...

Date: 2006-09-03 04:19 pm (UTC)And definitely, they were found by search and rescue and almost freezing to death made them re-evaluate a few things. They got their act together, got over the Mingu things and now have a couple of rugrats and never go anywhere cold (ergo, Hawaii). Can I move next door to your apartment?

Date: 2006-09-03 05:13 pm (UTC)The ending reminded me of the ending of Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, they ran away for a day or something and had fun being together and then their families came? And at the verry end they ended up dying together, for each other, and the ending shot was very similar to this one, them lying together, they had died, but they were together.
A horrible ending.. and I agree about the fiance, I fell in lowe with him right when he started helping her. He really did lowe her.. just in the beginning he did it in a little bit of an odd way. :\ Near the end I was just, ugh, Cha Eun Seok just marry him already. When she warms his hands.. the look on his face.. its so cute.
I understand the whole "guilt" thing, but I wish the ending would have been they both were saved.. and stayed with each other. Mingu KNEW. It was his last wish.. so no harm. It was kind of like they were purposely punishing themselves.

Date: 2006-09-03 05:31 pm (UTC)Yeah, the fiance was adorable. I love it when he told Da Jeong that she should let Bokgu and ES get together because even if he is punished, he'd have the love of his life. And when he told his father that he'd love to have ES if he can, but he will be satisfied with seeing her smile. I really hope he finds some wonderful girl to make him happy. I think he went a bit off the rails earlier because he wasn't used to relationships.
Mingu KNEW. It was his last wish.. so no harm. It was kind of like they were purposely punishing themselves.
Oddly, I think Mingu knowing made it worse for both of them, because it gave them such guilt that they made him find out and hurt him that way. If Mingu didn't know, I think they could have gotten over it better...
Guuuuuh. It was so depressing. I was bawling.
I am watching ISWAK today!
