After thinking it over, I've decided that Omkara is both my favorite Bollywood movie, and my favorite movie Shakespeare adaptation (it bumped off Branagh's Hamlet off the top spot). I can't stop thinking about it and simply must see it again. Of course, as with any movie I am in love with, apparently it's shaping to be a horrible flop probably because it doesn't have over-made-up phony college students dancing in Switzerland. Argh. It does seem to have the rare distinction of no single bad review about in on BWhat thread so far.

And yes, I still have that long Mars post to make. Later. I do have to say the thing I love the most about this is that no matter how OTT the situations, the characters feel real and so does their response.

I am really looking forward to Omkara. I'll probably see it in a week or so if I can round people up to drive to the cinema with me.

BTW, any idea why Taj Mahal isn't out on DVD yet? It seems like a long time...

*thud* You like Branagh's "Hamlet" over Branagh's "Much Ado About Nothing"? Nooooooooo!

Of course. MAAN is fun and lighthearted but I prefer tragedies to comedies. It's a light trifle and I forget it once I watch it. Hamlet's a whole other thing.

Hope you like Omkara.

Re: TM. It's because the director is an idiot and trying to do a theatrical re-release.

I dunno, his Hamlet was certainly epic. But it was a bit too... conceited? for my taste. I have to admit I laughed my ass off at the last scene, the one where they carry him out? It's hard not to find it funny when you know that the main actor also produced the whole thing. Plus, he struck me as a bit old for the role.

But every Hamlet's been too old for the role :)

I thought it might end up doing badly. We went to the same theatre we saw fanaa in (pretty sure every seat was taken) and this was MAYBE half full (if that much). Even only-seen-fanaa-Anna was like "Why is it so empty in here?". It made me sad. It is fantastic. Bit artsy though so it seems like it'll be more likely to be the indian nod for next years oscar (I HOPE!! they might even win finally if so! Its depressing enough.) than to make a lotta money. :(

But anyway, I can't stop thinking of it either! No matter what i'm doing images from it will just pop back up in my head and i'm like whoaa. Goode movie.

I know, isn't it amazing? I really hope they pick it for the Oscars!
