I have a long long post about Mars to make, but it's late and we have guests (so I haven't gotten further than finishing ep 11, argh!).

I do want to say that I've gotten my hands on a whole bunch of tdoramas, jdoramas and kdoramas. I am going to be going a bit crazy.

However, since it seems I've revealed my shameful F4 love openly, I must confess I was also looking for tdoramas with Vic Zhou (Ling in Mars). The one I am most interested in is Silence which sounds unbelievably angsty. I am not sure if it finished airing yet, but if anyone could tell me where I could dl it or similar with subtitles? I'd also like to look for Poor Prince Taro with subs and Love Storm which I can find but unsubbed and I will confess the depths of my madness when I'll reveal I am tempted to watch it unsubbed, and I know all of two words of Mandarin. Heeeeeeelp! I am addicted.

hmmm, [livejournal.com profile] je12_vz09 might now. am asking here right now. ;)

as for Poor Prince Taro is very funny. i watched it without subtitles, and it still made me laugh. Love Storm was cute, i just hated the other girl (who is Vic's ex-gf in real life) but ken and vic there was pure love. ;)

i'll need to get my f4 archives and check if i still have LS with subs somewhere!

hey! i uploaded the softsubs for eps 1 and 2 of Silence since it's the only eps that has subs as of this moment. if u can wait, i can upload the mpeg video of both episodes as well. but if u really can wait, i'll hardsub it first and upload the subbed one.

as for Poor Prince, there's no subbed version for this one, unfortunately. i have the vcd and i can upload 'em for u. and maybe, give u or direct u to the translation of the ep, which is actually unfinished.

as for Love Storm, i have a subbed copy but the subs totally suck! it sucked big time that you'd rather watch it without. if u can wait again, me and my other friend, marszz [catdecember's bestfriend] are planning to re-do the subs after she's done with her board exam this august. nways, what else do u wanna have? i also have Vanness Wu's Peach Girl, this one is subbed already and Ken's Marmalade Boy, but the video quality's ain't good so we're also planning to re-do this one. have u seen Meteor Rain? how about Love Scar?

Re: Silence. Weeeeee! Thanks! I can wait for hard subs or soft subs are OK with me. I don't want to be a bother. Is th show done yet, btw, or is it still running?

That would be totally great. No hurry!

Heeeee. Really? Yeah, I can wait for subs, or alternatively, if I can find a detailed plot synopsis I can watch it unsubbed (I've certainly watched Indian movies unsubbed before).

I actually have all of Peach Girl, subbed (I ended up watching it on a train once and freaking out the elderly gentleman next to me who had no clue what it was :P). I've seen Meteor Rain and it's quite cute. Haven't been able to find Marmalade Boy or Love Scar but would love to, so if you can point me in the direction of either one, I'll be your slave for life...

You've managed to lead me into this madness with you. So where should I go after Mars? I thought about Peach Girl but don't know what's good. And where do you get yours? I'm not impressed by the way my Mars DVDs keep sticking at pivotal points, so I'd rather order next time from someone reliable.

Peach Girl isn't very good. I adore the anime but the live action leaves A LOT to be desired. The light, cute, funny, angsty, inter-relationshippy stuff is gone. Plus, I have the hugest thing for Kairi from the anime (he is my anime boyfriend) but he is not very interesting here.

If you can download, there are plenty of sites that do. I do get them on ebay a lot and have been lucky so far *knock wood* I am not super-knowledgeable about which ones are excellent as I've only recently started. I did start "Goong" which is Korean and I am enjoying it a lot. It would make a good BW movie as it's sort of a fractured fairy tale about a prince of South Korea (this is an AU) and a girl his age who are stuck in an arranged marriage and they don't want to be but their love blossoms blah blah blah. I've only seen one half of an ep but I liked it. It's so charming. It's a lot less angsty than Mars though. From what I can tell, Mars and MG are considered about the best ones, btw.

"Long Vacation" is really highly recommended by a lot of people though I am really struggling through it. It's very low key and realistic and I am certainly in the minority for not caring for it. You should check out [livejournal.com profile] koalathebear's posts on it. And I am only two eps in so I'll see how it goes from there.

There are four really famous Korean ones, named after seasons: Spring Waltz, Winter Sonata and... I don't remember the other two names but you can find them on wikipedia (just look up winter sonata and click on the cycle link). I am about to watch Winter Sonata but I haven't seen it yet. Full House is another really famous Korean one but I haven't seen it yet, though I really want to.

I am really dying to see "Silence" which you can find early eps of on youtube (I am not sure, but I think it's still running in Taiwan, it only started at the end of May), which I linked to above because it sounds incredibly angsty (and because I like the lead a lot, after Mars. There is also a trailer for it on youtube). There is an upcoming one, "The Hospital" which looks really cool: (trailer with subs: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RRDY7E6PGJ0)

Gokusen is light-hearted (it's about an heir to a mafia family going into teaching) but great. I haven't finished it yet though.

I am actually more familiar with anime then with doramas which I am only getting started with.

P.S.

They moved back in with the stepfather and he's just attacked QL who bashed him and ran back to Ling's place. OMG, so good...not the bashing and the horrible stepfather, obviously, but everything else. I did all of this ironing (which I never do and hate and have lots of as a result) and watched it and never even noticed the time.

Thanks for recs. I can download but I'd rather buy and save the trouble of burning them to DVDs and then watching them. I just don't really like watching on the computer - it's not the same. So I guess I'll ebay and try and remember who I got the Mars ones from and just go with someone else.

Oh, I love love LOVE that bit. The whole bit surrounding QL's rape is my favorite part of the thing. I am nowhere near it yet (houseguests are fun but I just want to ditch and go watch this) and I just love it when she moves in with him. Eeeee!

The bit where she tells Ling that she kills her stepfather over and over again in her head is incredible. You can see this look over his face where it's this whole aspect of her that she's kept tucked away and he can understand it too...

My love for Mars is beyond human counting.

I know. I love that bit when she tells him about the stepfather and her feelings because a lightbulb really went on in my head at that point, the first time I saw it: because then I went "Oh. That is why Ling's violence or rages never phased her. Because he's acted out things that are much more mild than what she's done in her head. She hasn't acted out, but she can understand his emotions. And vice versa."

Have you gotten to the sex scene? Because it's actually one of my favorite scenes in the whole thing. Because guuuuh. (Trying not to get into it more as if you haven't gotten to it, don't want to spoil).

Yes. And I am getting no sleep because I am now at creepy bit where they're in the house and Ling has just imagined his mother was trying to kill him and QL has read Sheng's horrific letter. Aahhh!

Yes. When I first watched this, I already knew about Sheng, so when Ling was beating self up about him, I felt dreadful for him.

This nearly killed me. Sheng was the Tong Dao one, then, who wanted to punish his brother for being normal - for the rest of his life (or push him into killing himself).

Sheng wasn't as bad as Tong Dao though. Never killed anyone (though he did push Ling into things). And I think that part of the reason he killed himself was because he was afraid that with no Ling to be his conduit (because Ling was developing independence) he would turn into Tong Dao. So yeah, horrible but also quite messed up.

I give them a lot of points for setting it up so it's not really a shock. A lot of things fall into place (including comments people made about similarities and the fact that TD gloms onto Ling). Interestingly, I think in a lot of ways QL is what Sheng would have been if he was a genuinely good person.

I've been thinking about this and I keep wondering. I got the impression that Sheng knew this would push Ling over the edge himself - perhaps also to suicide. Which is what he wanted? Or to make him even more unbalanced so that he might end up destroying himself in some other fashion.

That could defnitely be true. A 'if I can't be happy and normal, you shouldn't either' thing.

I really do love Ling's reaction on reading the letter. "How stupid to kill yourself at 17" or something to that effect. He's really grown past that quite a lot, by the end. He's all grown up.
