Samurai Champloo and other anime
Jul. 16th, 2006 01:55 amFor a while there, after watching nothing but anime, I ODed on the stuff: no matter how much you like it, 5 hours a day of anime for weeks will wear you down and I tried a few anime that just didn't appeal. But after a bit of a break, I've started watching anime again, at a bit of a more normal pace.
In fact, I've been rewatching Fushigi Yuugi for a while (and yes, Tamahome is still my anime boyfriend and I still think Miaka/Tamahome are THE anime OTP. I am a dork). But that is not what the post is about.
Mr. Mousie is a fan of Samurai Champloo. Whenever we stay up late enough, I sometimes walk through the living room and catch a glimpse or two. But I was always doing something else, and so I never saw more than a few seconds of it. Well, today, I actually saw an episode from the beginning to end.
And I am in love!!! I don't even know the story, but it was so visually beautiful. I am a sucker for rain, when it's animated as well as it's here, and you know my passion for angst and this one had plenty. But most importantly of all, Jin=love. Seriously. With the glasses, and the swords and the restrained angst. Why didn't anyone tell me how cool he is?
For anyone wondering, tonight's episode was designed to reel in
dangermousie as Jin (one of the three main characters) fell in love with a woman who was sold to a brothel to pay her husband's debts and there was plenty of angst and forbidden lurve and rescues and swords to satisfy even the most greedy heart. Not to mention beautiful rain.
Even the dub wasn't bad at all.
It just went into the top of my Netflix queue.
In conclusion: JIN!!!!!
I have no SC icon, so a RK one will do.
P.S. Does anyone know where I can get my hands on Trinity Blood, Ouran High School Host Club and Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles (is that it's name? It's the one with Sayoran and Sakura).

Seriously though, I will always love Jin. So mature and restrained but then he pops out some hilariously thoughtless lines that remind you that he's just 21 and little more than a baby himself.
The last episode will kill you though (in a good way). What he does for Fuu is amazing as you realize how far this character has come from the beginning. And the imagery is in and of itself beautiful in that scene, since he's topless and his hair is down and the wind is blowing. He looks appropriately striking for his culimating moment.
And happily, SC is one of the few anime where none of the main characters die. You hope in the end that maybe he gets to go back to his prostitute.

YESSSSS! I was worried about that. I do hope he gets to go back to his hooker (Ok, that episode was just expressly designed to reel me in. Seriously. It was so beautiful and...guuuuh).
