So...Pride episode 5, which is awesome both because of the Yamato storyline, and the brain-melting final scene with Aki and Halu.
To start off with the last: I have forgotten the last scene of the ep with Halu and Aki on the bridge so it came as such a gorgeous surprise. When he is telling her how it would be complicated if they were in a real relationship, because he is totally thinking about it (and admits, when she teases about it, which is...). And she says they can continue the way they are (in a lot of ways, she is such an emotional safe space for him in her hand-offness). And then it starts snowing, and he takes her hands in his (and that is the swooniest thing, the way their fingers interlace) and blows on them to warm them. And she gets out a box of chocolate even if it's a little early and he laughs in delight and...oh, I love that scene.
But yes, their rapport is so grown and grown. He tells her Yamato's issue/story without being prodded, and at the beginning of the hotpot dinner in her house, with everyone, they are making adorable faces at each other (and there is a hilarious scene where he expects to be fed, LOL). And he tells her she should call him if she is lonely (such a difference from the initial terms of their pact). And there is, of course, the fact that he hasn't tried to get physical with her at all, even if you'd think that might be the outcome of such a relationship...Mmmm. It's so serious and both of them are beginning to realize it.
Being with Aki is actually mellowing Halu out, in general, and making him grow up as far as his views on women and love are concerned (he is certainly understanding of Mrs. Coach's loneliness which is something he would not have understood before. Btw, this drama is filled with women waiting in various stages, isn't it?)
And then there is the whole story with Yamato, who accidentally ran someone over even if it was entirely not his fault, and who feels so guilty about it, especially since the kid's parents told him he is a murderer. Of course, being Yamato, he represses and represses, but it all comes out to a boil in this ep. I love how Halu automatically runs to close the curtains on the bus when they drive past the spot, and how he takes him running and tries to talk him through it (side note: when Halu tells you, you are too closed-off, you reallly have problems). And when none of this works (precisely because Yamato is such a good person, his guilt is so immense), Halu actually goes to the dead guy's parents to beg them to forgive Yamato, and he gets it. He is such an awesome friend.
I love the scene with him and Yamato before the game where he tells they have special guests this game and they had this charm they wanted to give Yamato, and Yamato is beginning to fall apart realizing who they are, and Halu is adding what the father said (asking for forgiveness for taking so long to do the right thing) etc etc and Yamato is weeping and Halu is all 'they are going to be able to tell you were crying, let's go' and is all brusque even he is the one who did all that. And Yamato bowing to the guy's parents on the ice.
Yuri is kinda sweet this ep, attempting to cook (and failing miserably) but even better, she makes Yamato laugh and for that I could totally love her. I love that he was so happy with her he forgot to be guilty (and he tells that to Aki). I wonder if that was a part of why he temporarily broke up with her: he was feeling so guilty so he felt he had no right to be happy?
Anyway, awesome ep. But next ep...is my favorite in the whole drama. Tonight! EEE!
