Veronica Mars 2.08, Ahoy Mateys
Nov. 27th, 2005 05:25 pmWell, I finally got to see the ep.
Logan/Veronica interaction notwithstanding, I thought it was largely blah, mainly because the main mystery was so freaking deadly dull. Yeah, some kid's parents I've never heard of get little toy buses. Blah Blah Biddy Blah.
The other stuff was quite interesting though.
That first dream of Duncan's is quite telling (also, quite telling that Duncan is in one room dreaming of Meg, while Veronica and Logan talk shop in the other). He sees Meg as this sweet, pure, virginal type and then Veronica is abrasive, and mean, and her clothes are quite in your face. Yup, Duncan is clearly not enamoured of V 2.0. And the second dream: hmmm, I guess he can get a bit more enthusiastic with Meg than Veronica.
Weevil? Ugh. He was never a huge favorite, but he certainly catapulted to "yuck" category after this ep. People at TWoP had a running tally about who did worse to whom, Logan or Weevil, but what Weevil did this time is a whole other order of magnitude: kidnapping someone and playing russian roulette with them is...OK, there is a reason why he and his "buddies" would be put away for years for this, if there was any evidence. You know, how Weevil and Logan had a brief truce in first half of S1? No way could they ever have one now.
Yeah, Logan has a gun. And his year keeps getting worse and worse. I did love the scene where he rescued Veronica (who, once again, got in too deep through over-confidence. I guess she really did need to whistle after all). My fave scene in the ep. And I love Veronica breaking down in his car. Of all the things she could be freaking out, she is freaking out that he has a gun and is going to get killed. I think she broke up with him because she was afraid of precisely that and wanted to distance herself so it won't hurt when it happens. Of course, it didn't work. And I love the look on Logan's face. He wants to comfort her, of course, but I think this is the first time he realized that the above-mentioned fear for him was part of her reason for leaving him and I don't think he ever really knew she cared for him before.
Oh, and poor Logan so freaking terrified during the "trial," what with the pleading and the screaming. Ouch. Definitely high-on woobie.
Hmmmmm....

Date: 2005-11-27 11:35 pm (UTC)I think that's quite true. Though they did stay together for the summer (just finished going through the recaps at TWoP for this season...), due to the circumstances, their relationship late last season was very on-and-off, and after it ended, Veronica was pretty soon back with Duncan.
Logan might feel that he was just a temporary fling to Veronica who dumped him as soon as she noticed that Duncan was again available. He could suspect that, as with Lilly, this was yet another case where he was more emotionally involved while the other party liked him, but just not enough. Due to his abused childhood, he might also have felt unworthy and suspicious that anyone even could really love him. If his parents (esp. Aaron) didn't love him, how could anyone else.

Date: 2005-11-28 01:10 am (UTC)Last season, the Logan/Weevil rivalry was just them randomly pissing each other off because they disliked each other. In this season, it's an eye for an eye, and even though they may be wrong, each party thinks it's justified.

Date: 2005-11-28 04:06 pm (UTC)I disagree actually, I think that they both have very similar mentalities and a similar 'moral' code. I reckon that by the end of the season they will be working together to solve Felix's murder. (Feel free to rub this in my face when I turn out to be wrong ;)
I've always thought that the only reason Logan and Weevil aren't actually friends is that they're both such prejudiced fuckwits ;) Weevil would never be friends with a 'rich white boy' and Logan would never hang around with a 'poor mexican'. Other than that I think that they actually have a good understanding of each other and a kind of natural ease... The only tension between them is racial/class based and the whole Lilly thing (which just shows they have similar taste in women!)

Date: 2005-11-29 11:27 pm (UTC)But after Logan gets his revenge on Weevil, I do think that Weevil is going to realize (if he hasn't already) that Logan didn't kill Felix and that his whole posse has been lying to him. Weevil is going to be mad and he's going to want to find out the truth, and I think the only way that Logan and Weevil are going to find out anything is if they cooperate. But I don't know how they are going to be able to communicate at all with the current level of hatred between them. It seems like it's going to get worse before it gets better.
