YES!
72 episodes in, and Anna finally admitted she loves Vladimir back. Well, she didn’t say ILY, but I think when the lady in question:
a. tells the guy things like ‘The most important thing is I am home [his, btw]. And you are near.’
b. Continues by staring at him with her anime eyes, touching his cheek and repeating things like ‘I have never felt so good, never’ when he is sitting up there, a few inches away and is staring at her.
c. There is prolonged kissing
I consider her at least mildly interested :D
So, basically, it’s clear if you are hot and angsty and rescue the heroine repeatedly, she will love you back :D
Of course, in order to get to that point, Anna had proven that she has no brains at all*, but hey, I don’t think Vladimir loves her for her mind :D
* She believes she was refused the actress’ position. She is currently staying in Vladimir’s huge townhouse, with tons of servants, plenty to eat, and not even having to worry about Vladimir being around to confuse her because he is in the village. So she decides to look for a job as a governess. Not so stupid, so far, right? Except instead of applying through advertisements, and getting recommendation letters (as a servant suggests) she…runs away. In the middle of the winter. With no money, and only a small suitcase. WTF? Why? Why couldn’t she wait and apply in comfort? What kind of work does she think she will find this way? And then, as she clearly hasn’t read Fanny Hill, she gets dragged off to a brothel (come on, a when a strange woman is solicitous and is all ‘so, you came to be an actress, you have no $$$, no family, no rich guardian, you are all alone, right right right? Come over to my house, you can entertain my noble guests’ what does she think will happen). And when she escapes, she now doesn’t even have her coat and her bag. Does she go home? Nope. She goes to the cops and there, she asks for work! They offer her a certain kind of work, and assume she is a thief, and she runs off again. And the madam catches her and about drags her off for good, when Vladimir finds her and rescues her. (seriously, he must love her because he is an adrenaline junkie and she provides plenty of opportunity to indulge: duels, rescues, jail etc. I mean, he is in the military but there is no war, so he must get his kicks somewhere).
What kind of an idiot is she? She didn’t go home even after running away from madam? WTF? Why? If she is so glad to be home as she says to Vladimir, why run away? And seriously, it’s not like she even knew he was in town, so she wasn’t thinking about having to face him a failure. What did she think she was going to do? Even being a mistress of his, is better than starvation, and it’s not like he was offering, so…No idea. Heck, all she had to do was to mention that Baron Korf was her ‘guardian’ and she would have been left alone. Weird girl. But hey, it led to smoochies so I don’t mind.
I am very amused though that he is so sarcastic and prickly with everyone but is totally mushy with her. Heh. But even more I am amused by him and Olga. In some ways, they are very similar and their mutual needling of each other is FTW.
Ooooh, and here is the vid of the scene, with my translations.
Anna: And then that woman [the madam] found me in thee square and her servant grabbed me...
Vladimir: I really was on time.
Anna: Mm-hmm. How did you find me?
V: Let this be my secret
A: But really?
V: Your necklace helped me
A: Oh, that's how it was. Oh, it doesn't matter. The most important thing is that now I am home. And that you are near. [heeeeee, finally! He should have hired someone to kidnap her, silly boy]
[touches his cheek. Heh. Seriously girl, just jump into his lap]
A: This man hit you...Does it hurt?
V: It hurt when I didn't find you at home [seriously, it's amazing how mushy he can be with her, because he is so not with anyone else. Heck, he is barely civil with most people. Blond busty hotties can do a lot, clearly. LOL]
A: I was refused admission to the theater. And I did not want to return to the village.
V: And I nearly went mad, searching for you throughout the whole town. Petersburg is cruel to young women who have no defense...Your nose is really cold. [Heh. OMG, he is touching her nose, and she is giggling! Seriously, such crack]. You must promise me that you will never disappear this way again.
A: I promise. [OMG, the eye fucking!]
V: Good. And I have good news for you. It was not you who was refused at the theater but Polina.
A: How? The letter was addressed to me.
V: Polina pretended to be you, and Obolensky's assistant had never seen you so didn't discover the trick.
A: Vladimir, I don't even know how to thank you for my rescue. [Oh yes, you do.] My God, I can't even imagine what would have happened to me if...not for you.
V: God, what am I hearing? This is the first time you are talking about me in such a fashion. [OMG! LOOOOOOOOOK at their hands, almost touching!!!!]
A: I have never felt so good...truly...I needed too much time to finally understand it. I have never felt so good. [Finally. I think I am going to die! YES!!!! And OMG the staring!]
V: Words are not needed. You...you are near me. That is the best that can be...If you [OMG, he switched to the familiar form of 'you.' Every time he does it, I sort of swoon] run away again, little silly one, I will still find you.
A: Truly?
V: Truly. Even on the edge of the earth. [Hmmm, considering that he later breaks out of jail to rescue her and breaks her out of cellar she was locked into by evil person for a day, I think we have a man of his word here. Did I mention swooning?]
*hand kissing and smooching. Revive me later, k?*
Olga: Oh, Anna is found. How good! [Seriously, girl, go away! *stabbity*] You know, I was praying for you.
A: Madam Bolotova? Thank you.
Olga: You must tell me what happened to you.
V: Anna will tell you about it all later. [Heh, we know what you want to be doing right now.]
Olga: Then let's leave her alone, and go to my room, Vladimir. I am very interested in your side of the story. Oh, you got a cut on your cheek *smooch* Now everything will be healed. [Heh, the look on his face!] You don't have any other cuts? [seriously, lady cannot take a hint. I think the best part is she doesn't hate Vladimir or love him or anything, she just likes trouble.]
A: Then...I'll leave you.
Olga: Why are you looking at me like this? You forgot our agreement? I make Anna jealous and you help me see Alexander.
V: Olga, are you insane? The agreement is cancelled. I don't want Anna to be jealous of you.
Sorry for the clunky translation. It's late and a lot of it is idiomatic.
Of course, seeing that there are almost 50 eps left, I can only wait in giddy anticipation what kind of angst they will get to keep them apart for the duration :D
Not related to anything above, but this video of hot-dog eating contest between Kobayashi, a Japanese hotdog champion, and a bear, is something that can make anyone's year!
