Reason #319 why I love "Lonely Planet." Was browsing their website (http://www.lonelyplanet.com) and came across their write-up for Somalia. Their tag: "Kevlar vest; check. Military entourage; check. Somalia, here I come."

Their intro is brief and to the point: "A traveller to Somalia is spoilt for choice in the number of things that can go wrong."

Heeeeee.

The real question is why someone would get it into their head to travel to Somalia unless they're in the Peace Corp or something.

Well, there are crazy people all over, and I love that Lonely Planet caters to them. Of course, they list some cool site and add that after the prolonged war the stuff is probably not there or at best is interesting ruins :)

Believe it or not during the military action there, my office sent three people . They were flying in a Helicopter from one of the ships in the harbor to the airport and the helicopter they were in started taking incoming fire (Somebody was shooting at them). The crew of the Helicopter shotback with a 10 second burst from an M134 Mini-gun (3000rds a minute) and they stopped taking incoming fire.

It's has it moments and it does pay the bills. I personally would never go to a combat zone, but I have quite a few friends that have been to Iraq. I actually do maintenance and logistics for the Army. I work on small Caliber and Medium Caliber Ammunition. Thats where all the Hooahs come from-
