Upcoming Bollywood movie of the day: Kaal
Apr. 4th, 2005 04:31 pmI thought it would be fun to do a little post occasionally on a BW movie I am looking forward to.
This time it's an ecological thriller (whatever the heck that means) Kaal that is coming out on April 29th. I am only moderately looking forward to it (Lucky, Paheli, Parineeta and The Rising are way ahead), but it sounds like it could be OK. It has as leads: John Abraham, Vivek Oberoi, Ajay Devgan (heroes) and Esha Deol and Lara Dutta (heroines). I dislike Esha Deol on principle (an untalented actress given a chance only because she is a star kid), but I like the rest of the cast. And this is quite a departure for the mega-star director/writer Karan Johar who is justly famous for his family sagas (he is only producing this, however). And Kaal also boasts a special appearance (for an over-the-credits song and dance number, as the rest of the movie is songless) of the Bollywood biggest star (and Dangermousie's favorite actor) Shah Rukh Khan. Though if nothing else appeals about the movie, you are better off waiting till the summer's Paheli where Shah Rukh Khan is the lead.
So, in my last post for the day, I present pic-spam otherwise known as:
Plot (sounds...odd): International Wildlife Welfare appoints ace conservationist Krish Thapar (John Abraham) and his wife Riya (Esha Deol) to find out the reason behind the mysterious deaths caused by man-eating Tigers in the past two months. Dev (Vivek Oberoi) with his group of friends including his girlfriend (Lara Dutta) set out for an adventure trip for the weekend. Destiny diverts them from going to the farmhouse they had planned to and they are led towards India's biggest jungle for an unexpected ride.
The two groups bond together but the same night the fear that revolved around the jungle comes alive. Now starts a journey with fear, panic and trauma as death is felt in the air. The gang comes across Kali Pratap Singh (Ajay Devgan) who takes the challenge of helping them escape out of the jungle, which has never been so alive. In this run for life the only escape is to escape the time of death - Kaal. Those who know the cause of death are dead. Those who want to know, come to the jungle.
Attack of the monocrome cast:

Left to right: Lara Dutta, Vivek Oberoi, Ajay Devgan, John Abraham, Esha Deol. Ajay looks annoyed that he has no girl as by BW rules it means he is marked for death:

Three men in search of a comb and a haircut:

And better clothes:

Whaaaaa? Sorry, Dangermousie spazzed out seeing the shirt-unbuttoned John. Do you think they make special buttonless shirts for him?

Vivek looks like a doofus. What else is new?

"Yes, Dangermousie. For you I will even shave!"

His vest makes me laugh. The fact that Esha is in this movie makes me cry:

Did Vivek get his haircut by putting a bowl on his head and cutting around it?

Mmmmm, intense Ajay showing why Kajol married him:

So bright-eyed. Little do they know that...

...Esha Deol is almost upon them!

Am again distracted by the haircut (the true villain of the movie):

Lara. You were better off with John (see below):

Though he is wearing my Mom's shirt:

That's one heck of an outfit on Esha. That's right, if you have no talent, win them over by other means:

Grumpy Ajay:

Shah Rukh Khan as Item Boy? Now I've seen everything:

Date: 2005-04-04 10:00 pm (UTC)Item 2: Vivek Oberoi is SO CUTE!

3. No. Because I got dibs. But you can have Vivek :)
4. Hmmm, I wonder if the plot is the same.

Date: 2005-04-04 10:03 pm (UTC)Also, please lay off poor Vivek. He rocks! As does Ajay. Their teaming up again after Masti, Company and Yuva is one of the reasons I want to see the movie, the other one being the teaming of SRK and Karan after KKHH, K3G and KHNH. :)
Esha does make me think twice though. John's ok, that'll probably get my sister and mom to see it. Lara is decent, I like her. If this movie gets good reviews, I'll see it. I love the songs right now! :)

Finally..umm, oh yeah, are we gonna see this one, or is it just a maybe?

And also, Esha has weird legs...

Date: 2005-04-05 01:26 am (UTC)You can have Ajay. I will settle for John (though if I weren't afraid of being stampeded, I'd go for SRK, item number or not).
