It just hit me that if Veronica Mars doesn't get renewed, not only is four episodes all we are ever going to get, but that I won't see Logan and Veronica make up and make out ever again (for all I know, they go at it like bunnies in the season finale, but I doubt it, as it's not supposed to be a last ep or anything). Now I am getting really jittery. Does anyone know if there is anything like savefarscape.com efforts going on in VM fandom? Sort of writing to advertisers, writing to network etc?

I got Harukanaru in the mail yesterday, but after watching it for a bit put it aside because it's waaaay waaaaay too close to Fushigi Yuugi (though not in the particular way that you could assert copyright over, because otherwise Yuu Watase would be rich). Maybe later I'll give it another try. Dumm Dumm Dumm continues to be adorable though, and after seeing Madhavan with a mustache in one of the fantasy musical numbers (what temple was it? I want to go there), he is one of the rare men who looks better with facial hair than without. Yum. Can't wait to see him in Mani Ratnam's upcoming Guru, opposite Vidya Balan (Parineeta, yay!!!) and with Abhishek and Aishwarya. Better stop before this becomes stream of consciousness in the manner of James Joyce.

I've started on Philip Pullman's The Amber Spyglass and oh, God. Talk about overrated. I am 80 pages in and it's deadly dull. Lyra herself, while not an unrealistic child, is boring, obnoxious, and makes me want to smack her. Sorry, Pullman. It's not a good book. J.K. Rawling sleeps secure.

Cooked a Passover dinner yesterday and prepared a Seder, just me and Husband (I really ought to come up with less bland sounding nickname for him than this, for purposes of LJ. How about Col. K, if I am Dangermousie), which was fun. In case anyone is interested, besides things like haroset (for the service) which I made with apples, bananas, brown sugar and honey, I made baked Salmon with chili, pepper and soy sauce, a matzo variation on french toast known as matzobrai, and baked acorn squash with brown sugar and butter. And we got to light candles, which were dreadfully mismatched as they were out of my candle collection. And read in turns. It was wonderful.

Also, for anyone following it, who didn't see it on seven billion Bollywood news sources, Salman Khan is finally out on bail while his case (hunting endangered deer) is being appealed. Apparently, there were thousands of fans outside his home and, hilariously, when they couldn't deliver a cake to him, they decided to dump it on his car instead. ROFL.

And, because I am a pathetic fangirl, I have more pictures from Fanaa. 21 pictures, to be precise. Ready to be posted and I would love to. Or at least I was going to have pictures, if the stupid photobucket wasn't down for maintenance. Go to [livejournal.com profile] wasabi_girl's lj instead.

So instead, some yummy pictures of 'free for now' Salman Khan, whose URLs I have because I cross-posted them elsewhere.

All of a sudden, I have a pepsi craving:

No wonder he got a solitary. Otherwise I'd foreseen a very unhappy stay, no matter how short:

Sold his shirt to pay his lawyers?

Ahhh, I am too lazy to caption. Here are the rest of the pics by themselves.

If i remember correctly, the beggining of the amber spyglass IS really dull, but it improves. I've read all but the last half of the 3rd one.. a few years ago actually, and i enjoyed it.. though I have yet to finish the series. Its definately not much competition for all the other fantasy stories out there, though.

They dumped cake on Salman's car?! LOL. I'm sure that was a lovely welcome home from prison gift. Niiiiiice pictures too, ;D

Well, maybe his car got really hungry :P

They are oodles better behaved than Rajkumar's fans who apparently clashed with the police and threw stones at Microsoft office buildings and burned buses etc etc. (He just died).

Yeah, no way to go but up for Pullman. Talk about overrated!

I KNOW. It's amazing how upsetting the thought of them ending like this is to me. I would be so frustrated. It would just be wrong.

That's why I almost appreciate when they let them know early that they're being cancelled, a la Angel or Arrested Development, so they can at least tie up loose ends and make a proper season finale.

Yes, that man better thank whatever god he prays to that he didn't end up in jail. He wouldn't have lasted the night.

Philip Pullman makes me very angry. I think it's the fact that he considers himself a good enough writer to bash C.S. Lewis. To me that's like Paolini trying to bash Tolkien. You just don't do it. Katherine Fisher and Cornelia Funke are better writers and they don't feel a need to throw down the gauntlet to Rowling. Pullman just annoys me so much. I find it hilarious ironic that the first Dark Materials movie and Prince Caspian are set to release at the same time. Somewhere Lewis is laughing.

Prince Caspian is going to vipe the floor with Dark Materials, and I am full of glee and I am not even a huge Lewis fan (I like his Screwtape Letters, but not a big Narnia person). Talk about presumptious!

Agreed. Pullman=arrogance+mediocrity.

Yes, that man better thank whatever god he prays to that he didn't end up in jail. He wouldn't have lasted the night.

This made me laugh like crazy, yet this is so so SO true. Also, that was a prison for hardened guys like murderers and terrorists, and he is expert in Bollywood fake fighting...Wouldn't look so good for Salman, not with that baby face and all those muscles.

Fan fury hits B’lore

Four die as Rajkumar fans, denied a chance to pay their last respects, go on the rampage; city reeks of burning vehicles

Usman Merchant

Bangalore: Four persons, including a policeman, were killed and several others injured as frenzied fans went on a rampage on Thursday, ahead of the funeral of Kannada film icon Rajkumar.

The violence broke out early in the afternoon when over 20,000 fans, who had gathered at the Kanteerava Stadium, were denied a chance to pay their respects to the matinee idol, who died of cardiac arrest on Wednesday.

It all started around 1.00 pm as the carriage carrying Rajkumar’s body was moving out of the stadium to the Kanteerava Studio, the place where his last rites were to be performed.

Fans obstructed the convoy of vehicles accompanying the carriage, and the police had to resort to lathi-charge and firing tear gas shells. The mob initially dispersed for a while, only to regroup later.

In the mindless fury that followed, they torched vehicles and pelted stones near the stadium, forcing the police to open fire.

A 40-year-old man was killed in the firing, and a police constable succumbed to injuries later. The fans, however, did not stop.

They continued venting their anger, stoning vehicle showrooms and private establishments between Kanteerava Stadium and Kanteerava Studio. Deputy Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa's car, too, was stoned while entering the studio complex.

When the violence spilled out of control, the police yet again had to open fire. Unconfirmed reports say killing two persons in the process.

Away from the stadium, the police claimed more than 50 vehicles were torched or damaged in northern and western parts of the city. As a precaution against such attacks, many people pasted posters of Rajkumar on their vehicles’ windscreens.

The state government has announced a state-wide two-day mourning period and holiday for schools, colleges and government offices. However, IT firms, corporate offices, shops and other establishments, too, remained closed anticipating trouble.

Lakhs bid an emotional farewell to Rajkumar amidst chaotic scenes in the premises of the Kanteerva Studios complex, where the last rites were performed on Thursday evening.

Violence that erupted on Wednesday afternoon, claimed eight lives and left hundreds injured till Thursday night. For a man who had led a disciplined life, it was a hurried funeral.

Frenzied fans who refused to let go of the cortege ensured that family members just interred the body with no elaborate state honours and adequate last rites. However, his three sons went back to the samadhi of their father to complete the rituals they were unable to perform earlier.

As many as 90 rounds were fired in the air as a salute to the thespian. In a solemn and sombre mood, the body draped in the tricolour was lowered in a tarpaulin-lined grave. Rajkumar’s body was buried in a 11x6 foot grave amid shouts of “Rajkumar ki jai” around 5:45 pm. The five-hour, 14-km procession was brought to an abrupt end.

Rituals were performed as per Idiga tradition by Hindu priests led by Veda Brahma Bhanu Prakash Sharma of Srirangapatna.

Rajkumar donned his last role on Thursday. As he sang in Bhagyavantha, it was “vaara banthamma guruvaara banthamma, rayara neneyamma guru raayara neneyamma.” His reel role made an entire generation to turn to Guru Raghavendara. In the real world, on the blessed Guru Poornima day, lakhs of fans refused to turn away from their living God.

Most refused to leave the burial ground, as they were still unable to catch that one last glimpse.

Chief Minister H D Kumaaraswamy could not make it to the funeral as police advised him against it owing to the deteriorating law and order situation. “I was eager to pay my last respects to the thespian but I decided against it as it would have caused inconvenience to the public,” said Mr Kumaaraswamy.

“I watched the funeral ceremony live on television and paid my tributes to the actor,” he added.

Raj’s wife Parvathamma, accompanied by personal physician Dr Ramana Rao and three sons – Shivarajkumar, Raghavendra and Puneet – alone were able to make it to the burial spot, with great difficulty. Daughters Lakshmi and Poornima, daughters-in-law Geetha, Mangala and Ashwini missed out although they were in the studio complex.

Later, Mrs Parvathamma regretted that none of the traditional rites of the funeral ceremony could be conducted properly. “Fans claimed him as their property and we let it be. I could not even see him properly for the last time,” she added.

Amid swirling dust, strewn flowers and burning police vehicles in the periphery, politician and relative S Bangarappa climbed onto the cortege for a last look at the mortal remains.

Thousands thronged the venue since Thursday morning. People sat on roof-tops of buildings, on trees and atop vehicles hours before the body was to be brought in a procession from the Kanteerava stadium, where it was kept since last night, for the people to pay their homage.

The body was brought to the studios in a flower-decked carriage at 5:30 pm. Moments after the body reached the venue, mobs broke through the barricade to gain entry to the funeral. They later started pelting stones at police personnel. Police lobbed nearly 150 teargas shells and resorted to caning to disperse the crowds. They even resorted to firing in the air to bring the situation under control. But they could not restore order.

The actor’s son Raghavendra Rajkumar appealed to the fans to help in conducting the rituals. “Make way for my mother to come to the venue,” he appealed in vain.

Filmstars and other important personalities, meanwhile, were bundled into police vans as clashes broke out.

Scores of tinsel world artistes, legislators, industrialists and people from all walks of life were among those who paid their last respects to the departed soul.

I mean the very fact that he started his one sided feud with a dead guy says something about him to me. Lewis probably would have thrown him down a flight of stairs were he living.

About Lewis's writing, have you read Til We All Have Faces? That one is considered Lewis's masterpiece.

I remember my prof who taught the Inklings class was thoroughly indifferent to Pullman. It wasn't even so much because Pullman didn't like Lewis, but because the last Dark Materials book is so full of plotholes he just loathed it.

Wouldn't look so good for Salman

Just pray he doesn't drop his soap in the shower.

Maybe he likes opponents who don't fight back.

And yes, my dislike of HDM has nothing to do with his dislike of Lewis (because I am not a Lewis fan. I am rather indifferent, though I do think he is good). It's just the book is so dreadfully mediocre.

I think it's one of those rare occasions where "never shower in years" is a good rec.

Thats disguisting! They are using someone they claim to respect as an excuse to not go to work and cause trouble. They wouldn't even let his FAMILY say goodebye properly? Thats proof their motives weren't very pure. :( How sad.

and I know! heh.. I'm using it again because it is quite appropriate for the topic at hand.

I shall never understand the mob mentality.

Dude, don't remind me. I'm trying not to think about these possibly being the last four episodes of VM. I'll be devastated if it doesn't come back. :( There isn't as much organization to save the show as there was last year, I've noticed. Then people wrote "Veronica Mars is smarter than me" on fake dollar bills someone made and sent them to UPN (I don't know if you heard about that?). I know this year there's the postcard campaign (http://www.marsinvestigations.net/campaigns/postcardintro.php), but I can't think what else.
