I am in love!!!!!!!

OMG.

I have just started jdrama Mukodono (2001) starring Nagase Tomoya (who is he and what else has he been in. LOVE) and Takeuchi Yuko (who with this, Pride, and Bara No Na Hanaya is becoming my gsve jdrama actress ever).

Mukodono is the funniest cutest drama I've seen in a long time!

Nagase Tomoya plays Sakuraba Yuichiro, a super-popular, super-cool and super-sexy pop idol. Men get haircuts to look like him and women swoon by the dozen. But Yuichiro has a secret or two. Yuichiro is secretly married which could devastate his fans and end his career!!!!! (Which is, from my admittedly limited exposure to jpop is not a drama exaggeration). Not only that, but the real Yuichiro is hardly the icy-sexy image he projects to the public, but is instead a total dork, who even lives with his wife's family.

Cute shippy MV:

Some Caps from first 20 minutes of ep 1 )

So, what else has Nagase Tomoya has been in. And I see he is a member of TOKIO. Are they as eye-searing as the other Johnny's bands?

I am on a 30 hour flight this week (and 30 more hours on way back) so I am going to load up on jdramas because I am on a jdrama kick. I will take this, Long Love Letter, Million Stars, KKK 2003, Byakuyu, Pride (for rewatch), Love Story, Love 2000, Regatta, Dragonzakura and some other ones I need to think about (maybe Tattakoi for rewatch). I'd burn Iriyu Medical Dragon but I have no time. And probably 9 Ins 2 Outs for kdrama and My Lucky Star for twdrama if I feel like something else than a jdrama. Mmmm.

(I want to squish them so hard!!!!!)

I have a confession of deep dark shame: I watched a TOKIO song on youtube and enjoyed it. They are still shinier than I prefer my musicians to be, but they actually play instruments *gasp* and can sing in tune! And they look like they hit puberty some time ago and actually had a meal or two since. Plus, I liked the song. I don’t think I will be seeking out more, am not really big into musical stuff, but…the deep dark shame will haunt me. Shame. Shaaaaaaame.

Or something.

Anyway, it’s always fun to discover a new actor ‘crush’. I will definitely be checking out Utahime (I’ve seen flisters love it but somehow missed that it’s set in 1950s! Yay!). I will also check out My Boss My Hero (summary sounds cracktastic) and Ikeburo West Gate Park (it has Yamapi in it too. Though he is what, 12 in it?)

But meanwhile, I am totally in love with Mukodono. I totally want to adopt Sakuraba Yuichiro: he is so adorably dorky and clueless. Heeee. The scene where he came in to ask for Sakura’s father’s permission to marry her made me LOL so hard I had trouble breathing.

I love Sakura too, who is sweet and down-to-earth and also dorky, and I loooove Sakura’s cooky family: her retired father and three older sisters, one of whom is a cooky mother of surly teen and is separated from her husband, one of whom is a geneticist with an allergy to men who had a son via artificial insemination, and one who is a workaholic employed by a radio station. I want to be in that family!

Caps from most awesome permission-seeking scene in drama history )

In news of dramas that are not good, but entertaining nontheless, has anybody watched Delicious Gakuin? I checked out about ten minutes of first ep before being sidetracked by the shiny of Mukodono.

Since nothing I could write would be crackier than the plot, I bring you the wiki summary: After being kidnapped and being taken to a cooking school told they must enroll, a group of boys deal with learning tons of recipes while also focusing on thoughts of love,* friends, and intentions.

Yes. Kidnapped. To be made into Chefs by force. Whaaaaa? Jdramas, never change.

* Seeing it’s an all-boys school, I can tell what kind of lurve it’s going to be ;)

Between the incredibly over-the-top acting, the skinny, girly-looking boys with mile high hair, and the psychotic plot, I can tell I will be very entertained.

I know who Sakuraba Yuichiro reminds me of: a grown-up Tamaki from Ouran High School Host Club. They are both good-hearted, ditzy blonds with family issues and lots of money.

SQUEE.

How adorable/ridiculous/sniffly was the scene with him having to show up late for dinner with Sakura's family? I was both laughing and sniffling at the same time. Also, Sakura is just so sane, which is just as well because Yuichiro is basically a ten-year-old in a grown-up's body and a total drama queen. I ship them so HARD.

Basically, the reason Mukodono works for me is because yes, the sheer premise of a supposedly sexy superstar who is in reality a goofy dork who lives with his wife's family is part hilariousness and part girl-wish-fulfillment, but it also makes me really invested in the characters, from Yuichiro and Sakura to Sakura's crazy family or even Yuichiro's manager. I really want things to work out for them. Also, Nagase Tomoya seems to be really tall. Isn't it against the rules for Johnnys?

Episode 2 of Mukodono is even more awesome than ep 1. I don't remember the last time I watched a drama this sweet, funny, and pitch-perfect.

Also, it's great to have a drama hero who is nice. Yu is rather a big kid and a bit of a drama queen, but he is also incredibly giving and unselfish and caring. It's just...AWWWWWWW. And Sakura is just a darling: sweet but not a pushover at all, and very common-sense and steadying.

My favorite moment in the episode (which was full of them) was the make-shift wedding Sakura's family (love them!) threw for Yu and Sakura after the wedding in Hawaii was cancelled because Yu got sick, and the family was at first cranky about Yu in general but then saw how sweet about them he was being. It was so...AWESOME. When his hands shook so much when he was signing the form that he ruined it and they had to use another, I sort of died.

I have no caps because was watching a burned disc, but it bears repeating: Nagase Tomoya FTW. He looks like what fantasy of a pop idol should look like, someone out of a manga, almost: touseled bleached hair, cheekbones, elegant hands, and those pouty lips, and tall build (I mean, you could use him for a live action illustration of the hero of Sensual Phrase). And then as soon as the public is out, he transforms into this totally adorable, lovable, unselfconscious, complete and utter dork in private. Heee.
