Yeah, it's maybe better to make the heroine older unless you want to have creepyfactor x 100. I haven't read genbu kaiden in a while even though I love it, but at the moment I'm really into Fumi Yoshinaga's Ooku manga. It's basically a reversed story about what if Japan was ruled by women because all the males have become rare so men are treated as treasures and the shogun is a woman with a whole palace full of men. They even made a movie adaptation of the first volume. I would also recommend mangas by Motomi Kyousuke, he makes great shoujo manga where the female leads are not really weak or annoying. You should also try kimi no todoke and Yotsuba especially Yotsuba because it's such a fun manga.
