Leading Lady for Athena - who shall it be?
Mar. 3rd, 2010 09:52 pmI was obsessed with IRIS the moment it was declared and it looks like Athena is going the same way.
So, now that we have our hero in Jung Woo Sung and our bad guy in Cha Seung Won, who do you think should be the leading lady?
Here is my potential, very subjective list, in order of preference, from most to least. I tried to pick both from A-list and age appropriate categories (I cannot imagine them sticking a 20-yr-starlet opposite Jung Woo Sung. Plus, only young actress A-list enough is Moon Geun Young and that would be incredibly weird. He's old enough to be her father).
1. Jeon Ji Hyun - she is a huge Hallyu star, she has starred with JWS before, in a movie and a series of ads (I have no idea what this ad is selling except for s-e-x with a capital s). She can be crazy tough and knows how to wield weapons (Blade). She is drop-dead gorgeous and age appropriate. She hasn't been in dramas forever but neither has JWS. (And this would make a much better comeback than the rumored Absolute Boyfriend remake). Of course, after they finish paying JWS and JJH, the company would probably have to use cardboard sets but whatever.
2. Ha Ji Won - at one point HJW was my all-time favorite kdrama actress. She hasn't done kdramas in a while so other ladies took the top spot, but there is no question HJW isn't just gorgeous and a very good actress, but she is FIERCE. Have you seen her in Damo as the woman warrior? Once again, hasn't been in a drama for a while but probably easier to convince to come back than JJH.
3. Song Hye Kyo - if they wanted to repeat the Kim Tae Hee vibe of the first installment, SHK is the way to go. Just like KTH she is ethereally beautiful (and also like KTH is sometimes more known for looks than her acting), can act well when paired with good direction, has great chemistry with all her costars, and makes an ideal pairing with an angsty macho man (see All In with Lee Byung Hun for proof). Of course, SHK is scheduled to shoot a movie with John Woo, but you never know.
4. Kim Sun Ah - I have seen her name bandied about, mainly by City Hall fans who want a reunion for her and Cha Seung Won. She is certainly age-appropriate and I like her but I just cannot see it at all. Her forte is romantic comedies and playing a tough, whip-smart woman involved in secret organizations, espionage etc - I just cannot see it. I guess she can always prove me wrong but as for now, I don't see it.
5. Chae Rim - Hear me out! I am not thinking of Chae Rim of Dalja - I am thinking of her bodyguard character of Powerful Opponents. Maybe this idea got stuck in my head because her Eve castmate Kim So Yeon played Sun Hwa so effortlessly in IRIS. Not going to happen I am sure (she has a drama this spring, for one) but...
6. Kim Ha Neul - could have been a solid choice though I am not the hugest fan, but she will be filming Road N. 1 at the time.
Your thoughts and suggestions? :)

Date: 2010-03-04 04:29 am (UTC)Sorta-related: I just discovered that Daisy (a movie with Jung Woo Sung and Jeon Ji Hyun) is about an assassin angstily in love with a painter. Well, it seems he's got practice playing angsty assassins at least :P

Date: 2010-03-04 01:58 pm (UTC)I would adore JJH but I don't think they could afford her. And if she came back, I'd want her to be the top billed star. I have a feeling that if she came back in Athena, she'd be overshadowed.
I'm more interested in the role the female will play. If they don't want to follow IRIS exactly, then how would the role be played? Another co-worker? A woman that needs to be saved? And old flame? I think who they cast would be entirely dependent on that.
My pick is for Shin Min Ah but that's because I adore her with all my heart and I need her to do another drama like NOW. She's just been doing movies (mediocre ones at that) and she does her dramas two years apart, so it's about time for a new one. PLUS in her last interview she said she wants to get away from these sweet characters and play a crazy woman, so. . . well, HIRE HER!

True. SMA - that's an awesome choice and she is rather a chameleon.

Date: 2010-03-04 11:01 pm (UTC)I've only seen the first episode of IRIS, since I wasn't in the mood for that kind of a drama when it was airing, but I'm still planning on watching it.
I loved Jung Woo Sung in The Good, The Bad, The Weird and now I'm having a major urge to rewatch the movie :D...
