David Niven wrote an autobiography some years ago. I'm probably remembering totally wrong, but I think the title was something like "The Moon's a Balloon." I do remember enjoying it.

I'm seconding this recommendation (and the title is right). It really is hilarious - and the story of how Niven ended up in his regiment is really one of the funniest things I've read. 'Bring on the Empty Horses' is also good.
