Fruits Basket: secrets are revealed and I bring some scans :)

So, I finished chapter 98 of Fruits Basket (it's in vol 17).

And now I know Akito's big secret. And Kureno's.

And guess what? My Akito hatred is stronger than ever. It only made me loathe Akito more.

So Akito is a girl made to grow up as a boy and her mother is unkind.

Too fucking bad.

I don't care. The horrible things she's done to everyone, the mental, emotional and physical anguish she's inflicted on the zodiac people?

There is no excuse.

So her Mommy didn't smother her with hugs and kisses?

I DON'T CARE.

I will not care for an abuser (and such a horrific one) just because she was abused herself (and I am sorry, compared to the stuff Akito inflicted on others, the fact that her Mommy didn't do her hair and make her pb&j sandwiches when she was little just doesn't cut it).

Look at Kyo! Look at Yuki! They have both been horrifically abused (largely by Akito) way beyond the wildest dreams of Akito's Mom. But guess what? They aren't monsters. Look at Rin and Haru and Hatori and Kisa, and even Kureno, all of them screwed up or mistreated by Akito.

They are still human.

Akito is not. She is a monster.

The thing with Kureno actually makes me want to stab Akito in the face twice as much. Kureno had his curse lifted when he was 15-16 or so. And Akito (who was 12 or so) threw a crying fit because she didn't want to be left alone. So Kureno, who is probably the kindest character in the manga, promised her he will always stay with her.

His reward? Akito never lets him out, treats him as a pet, insults him, hits him, and is just...Once Akito is secure, he will never appreciate or let go.

Man. Kureno is her lover. But all he feels is obligation and Akito is all about keeping him chained up. When a guy who is 26 admits that on meeting Uo it was the first time he fell in love, as a man, that's just...*stabs Akito in the face*

Yes, after 98 my view that Akito has a bad!wrong vibe with all her male zodiac members is written in stone. And you know, because Kureno is over the age of consent doesn't make it not abusive. And the way she is around Hatori or even younger ones like Haru or Yuki *shudder* is the same.

Did I mention that in the previous chapter Akito slashed Yuki's face because Yuki told Akito he forgave Akito for mistreatment and will be his own person?

(Btw, on Kyo/Tohru front, the fact that he wants to spend New Year with her is adorable).

Anyway, I bring you awesome scans where Kureno is with Tohru, explaining it all to her, about why he can't be with Uo.

Dammit.

Vol 96. Akito and Kureno in their dysfunctional 'glory.' As he is missing Uo but being with Akito!

Some scans from the meeting between Kureno and Tohru in vol 98:

As he shows her his curse has been lifted:

OMG! Be still my shippy heart. Kureno admitting how much he misses Uo and that he must stay with Akito anyway. *stabs Akito in the face*:

Uo missage:

His telling Tohru about his curse lifting years ago:

And remembering giving himself to Akito (and there is crying!) Seriously, he is too kind. I think sadistic psychos shouldn't get compassion:

And then later (heeee, nope, not when Akito was 12. Kureno is not a pedophile though I wish he was a murderer :P) he is still still stuck and even is her boytoy. *stabs Akito again*:

And then he comes back from the meeting to be met by a wonderful, wonderful Akito. Seriously, my Akito hate is immense:

Haru and Rin. And here is why I love them in a nutshell. She broke up with him, to protect him (without telling him why) and yet he comes in, in secret, anyway, to take care of her:

Glad to know Akito hate remains even after reading the origin. No matter what, Akito is a person who decided that if she was going to be miserable, she'd see to it that everyone else was worse off, and that's her only goal. No matter what, nothing trumps that fact, no matter how bad she has it, because her hate and the pain she causes is deliberate and her choice. I mean, even if it was a case of her having a mental problem that caused her to do the worst of it, it'd be one thing, but it's ALL of her own free will, and I think the only thing she gets any contentment from.

Exactly. I mean, she has NO excuse for planning to shut Kyo away in a dark room with no one to see him and no one to talk to him for the rest of his life (at 18!!!) not to mention what else she's done to him. She has no excuse for tormenting Yuki so badly he wanted to die. She has no excuse for blinding Hatori in one eye, or hospitalizing Rin, or constantly trying to break down Haru, or beating up a small child like Kisa. Not to mention later literally stabbing Kureno in the back.

Even if her Mom used to break her fingers, it would be no excuse and her Mom was far from that. She is sadistic and horrific and has no human empathy. She is frighteningly selfish and I don't see why anyone should care about her: she after all cares only to inflict pain.

Oh, and she is totally taking advantage of knowing Kureno is incredibly empathetic and as gratitude for his pledging his life away, she treats it as her due and abuses him. I really think if she could, she'd sleep with all the male zodiac members, as further proof to herself they are hers (which I am convinced the only reason she does it with Kureno).

After this chapter, I hate her more than ever.

*basks in shared Akito hate*

What I can't believe is that Hatori still stays with her. I mean, she almost blinded him...

What's saidf is that, sans-Tohru, all the others would have ended up just as badly off as Kureno, as much as sdhe had them beaten down.

I suppose Hatori has no choice. When Shishou was describing the bonds it sounded like something entirely out of their control. He is incapable of leaving while the spirits still possess them.

And the thing with Kureno, I really think that he stayed with Akito because of the screwed up bond too. Basically, yeah, he is physically released from the curse, but I think the psychological dependency is still there and would take some time to dissipate (only Akito won't let him). It's so engrained in him by that point to bow to Akito's wishes and to subserve himself all that, that even though technically he doesn't have to any more, psychological dependency is even harder to break and doesn't just turn off with a switch.

Gosh, I hate Akito.

Damn Akito.

I haven't picked up on my reading again 'cause I've been watching MARS. Now I can see why it's your fave dorama. I think it'll come out as my 2nd fave 'cause Pride still owns me in a big way.

But yeah. Tohru is seriously too kind. But that's also part of the reason why everyone loves her.

Yay! So glad you like Mars. Pride is my second favorite so I can definitely see the Pride love. And do read more FB because I want people to share the squee!
