The ending of ep 9 of Nice Guy leaves me speechless. In a good way.
Lee Kyung Hee really knows how to do melodrama! I could barely breathe watching this. I have no idea how the characters got to this point (OK, I lied, I have some limited idea) but what strikes me is that it doesn't matter because while knowledge is absent, emotion is not. To me, this shows what the best dramas can do - to transcend logic and go straight for the heart. I don't mean that I don't want consistent, plot-hole-less writing from my dramas (and in any event, I have no idea if ep 9 of NG is logical or not as I have not yet seen it), but ultimately, what I really want - I want my dramas to make me feel, to transform me into another state of being entirely, so that any other issues, the logical brain part of me, ceases to matter.
And oooh boy, does that clip deliver that. Straight to the heart. I especially love that Maru says barely a word during the whole scene and yet you can feel his every emotion - sadness, guilt, longing, shock, love (yes, I do believe it's love), as clearly as if he's been shouting it.

So, so, so good. They (those who knew about the ending) said it was going to be daebak and boy did they deliver! All I wanted to do after the episode was to replay that scene forever.
A year in torment, hell on earth (even Jae-Gil says he wasn't like this after he lost Jae-Hee) with those terrible final memories in his head, and this is how he's reunited with her. "I remember you now... We were very much in love, weren't we?" She doesn't remember everything about him, but she remembers loving this man, it's her emotions, her heart who recognized him and that's why she started crying too not only because it made her feel good but also simply because she remembered something finally. And gawd, what this must be doing to him.... WHY ARE THEY SO BEAUTIFUL??? *sob*

I am SO relieved. I wasn't sure how well the plot twist would sit with me (though if anyone could pull it off to my satisfaction, it would be LKH - her dramas always emotionally work for me even when logically they might not hold up) but the drama still seems to be firing on all cylinders.
That reunion is so full of all these layers - and I do think he must feel so much guilt. He pushed her away earlier when he felt much less guilt, I am sure. I am impressed he is holding it together at all in this scene.

also i love all the little details the pd's have put into the scene. how eungi's in all white and maru's in all black, and she chooses to write his name in white while he picks up the black crayon. says so much about the characters and how they view each other at this point.

I hope that Maru will take in EG and protect her from all the vultures trying to steal her fortune and harm her.

I really hope Maru will allow himself some peace and find healing with EG.

Yes, especially since she didn't deserve any of it. He almost did the same thing JH did to him. Only he was putting on an act of not caring about her because he didn't feel he deserved her.
I hope so. If he can't do it for himself at least for EG. She's been through so so much because of him.

And Maru... Why does Lee Kyung Hee do this? Her male protagonists sink lower and lower. I remember encountering Bi's Sang Doo as a gigolo who sold his body to pay for his daughter's hospital bills, scarring me emotionally for quite some time. Then, Bi's next character in A Love to Kill, who wanted to kill Shin Mina's character as payback for the pathetic end his brother met. Now, Maru is a combo of both Bi's characters, only even worse off. Gah.
I'm wondering if I should hold off on watching this until it finishes. I don't think I can handle to the emotional trauma of an Lee Kyung Hee ending with its melodramatic oomph to the nth power.

That seems to be a pattern among her male leads. OMG you're so right! He IS a combo of those two characters.
I personally can't hold off waiting for it to finish. And if I find out it has a bad ending then I won't ever finish it.

The reunion between Eun Gi and Maru was so emotionally charged, it really felt like a punch in the stomach. I'm really difficult to impress with dramas, but this really moved me.
Song Joong Ki is such an amazing actor. He said so much while not speaking at all.
Not sure how I feel about the future of this drama... amnesia as a plot twist isn't exactly my kind of thing.
