Legend - spazzy spazziness

All these promos for Faith are making me want to rewatch The Legend - Faith's writer/director's previous drama. Legend was the first kdrama I liveblogged (despite being dog-sick at the time), it was my favorite drama for a long time (and may still be) and there is no doubt that Dam Deok is still my favorite drama hero of all time - driven, selfless, tormented, so very smart, ruthless, cornered. I love him. And I love Sujini (still my favorite kdrama heroine) and she and DD are probably still my biggest kdrama OTP - battle comrades, best friends, soulmates...

Anyone else feels like joining me in a rewatch? We could do two eps a day...

Have a shippy MV:

If Faith is half as good as Legend (no drama before or since have I been so possessed by), I will be ecstatic.

This is so tempting after that MV haha.
I will eventually get around to dlding and watching this. I've heard too many good things!

The drama is awesome!

It isn't actually that long I rewatched it myself so I'm game, for discussions and some squee at least. :)

Yay, discussions!

This is funny, I was rereading my "I want a friend to watch this" post abot "The Legend" only yesterday, watching a couple of MVs and this is the KDrama I'd love to rewatch.
I'm still angry with myself that I didn't pick up the DVD box in Seoul.

Oooooh, this is provident!

I liked Legend but it still disturbs me that BYJ and MSR played teens inthe first half of the Drama o_O. Okay, people aged early in this time but mid 30s playing 18-20s? The actors were great but I always wondered that their behaviour did not fit.

And the ending was an other problem for me. It always felt unfinished. What happened to the Phoenix storyline? All pain Sujini got through for nothing?
But that is a problem I often have with action Sageuk. At the beginning everything makes sense and is good but later with every episode I get confused more. The red string who is elemental for a good storyline gets disoriented or worse have been cut and start anew from an other point.

I liked Legend for it's actors, characters, music and great pictures but the story gives me headaches.

The ages of the actors and actresses/characters made no sense what so ever, LOL! Lee Philip's Cheoro is supposed to be the oldest charcter and LP is actually the youngest of the actors (excluding all the drama parents and other 'adults'). This 'age thing' seems to be a k-drama quirk. I just choose to ignore it for most of the time when it crops up.

Yup, the ending was aprubt. I'm pretty sure it wasn't supposed to end like that but it's a wonder they were able to actually finish it at all. BYJ's injuries were bad enough to put him on an operating table almost as soon as they finished. He could barely stand, let alone walk propely at that point. Can't do much without the lead. Filming sageuks can be a downright health hazard for actors. They also run out of time due to injuries (almost everyone in the main cast and god knows how many others) and other unforseen obstacles. The cost of making an epi. :)

I know this but it never disturbed me that much like in Legend since they acted so much immature. I always had to remember that they are much younger. It has taken off some drive for me.

I know that. You can see it when he is finding Sujini again at the lake and when he is walking in the tent and need the stool to support.

I prefer the Japanese and Taiwan way of making Dramas. Makes it for the entire team more comfortable and the actors aren't looking that drained at the end. And the netizens and viewers can't demand all time the drama making fit their expectations.

The actors also have time then to promote their Drama properly. I love all the fanservice you get while promoting the Dramas.
Maybe it is typical Korean but I often feel they burn their stars and idols too fast. As much I love some actors I don't need a new Drama & movie from them each year. No wonder they have an exceptional high suicide rate in this buisness.

Yeah, the age discrepancy was very marked in Legend but for some reason it didn't bother me at all. Probably because it was my 1st ever drama (thus still has a special place in my heart) and everything was new and shiny to me. LOL!

The Korean way of making dramas is totally nuts. It's a serious drain for everyone but I doubt they'll change it in a hurry though. The networks love to pander too much to the demands of the netziens/viewers.

[identity profile] usisblog.livejournal.com 2012-08-02 03:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Haha...maybe. I can't remember my first Drama, I just know it was a Dorama. But I never was someone who could remember such things :D. But I think if it had left any impact like Legend I still would remember :).

Nuts. True!
And to demand of the netizens and viewers Hong Sisters Best Love drama shows us a bit of the bitter pill. All the bad news we heared last years I think it is just a scratch on a iceberg. Beeing a Celeb in Korea must be very hard especially when you have fans who idolize you and your agent company cares only for their money.

The age thing didn't bother me - I just tuned out whenever they announced how old they are and assumed they were in 20s/30s...

I liked the ending, actually. I thought it was made clear that Kiha was the dark phoenix, not Sujini...

[identity profile] usisblog.livejournal.com 2012-08-03 07:10 am (UTC)(link)
I always assumed both were the phoenix since Kiha could start the fire and Sujini extinct it. I felt that both sisters had to be together at last. Sujini maybe would have calmed her down and break the both free from the curse of rebirth.

The "dark" phoenix never was bad for me since it was caused by absolute emotional break down. Kiha for me was the most pityful character. She never had the chance to live a happy life. Some god sucked and humans had to live a miserable life over and over. He better had stayed "in heaven" :P. Damdeok took care of this at least.

[identity profile] dangermousie.livejournal.com 2012-08-04 05:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I disliked Kiha immensely because she was selfish and blamed others exclusively but yeah, she didn't have the best circumstances...

[identity profile] usisblog.livejournal.com 2012-08-06 06:58 am (UTC)(link)
For me Kiha was most human. She had an awfull upbringing so her character was understandable. (I know enough people in RL who does not have that excuse.) I know that it is because of her wrong doing in her past life but envious and jealous women are capable of much.

[identity profile] algelic.livejournal.com 2012-08-02 10:32 am (UTC)(link)
Oh "Legend"... you were so epic and magical~ Even I loved it, even though I dislike long dramas.

I re-watched it not too long ago, so I can't follow you this time Mousie!

You know... I don't think "Faith" will be nearly as good as "Legend". First of all, that lead actress! She just SUCKS! Unless there was an unlikely miracle and she developed acting skills overnight, I don't think we should get our hopes up. And we all know that 80% of a drama's quality resides on the strength of the OTP! Minho is awesome, charismatic and eveything... but he can't sustain the drama or the romance alone!

Thinking about Faith makes me actually want to rewatch Escaflowne. Seriously, the premise is SO similar (except for the doctor part).

[identity profile] dangermousie.livejournal.com 2012-08-03 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
I like Kim Hee Sun - I saw her in Goodbye My Love (a 1990s melo with Ahn Jae Wook) and Smile Again and liked her in both. Leaving that aside, Sujini, who is arguably my fave kdrama heroine, was played by Lee Ji Ah, who was abysmal in a number of follow-up dramas. I think that barring monumental woodenness a la Kim Hyun Joong or Yunho, a good director and writer can make or break any actor.

Escaflowne - I need a rewatch.

[identity profile] once-a-weaver.livejournal.com 2012-08-03 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
I rewatched about half of escaflowne last month. I'm in such a rewatch mood lately.

[identity profile] usisblog.livejournal.com 2012-08-06 07:04 am (UTC)(link)
I adored LJA in Me Flower too. Finally a good script. I know Beethoven Virus was the most popular but her character was just a small supporting role and I do not know why they made-up kind of romance where was absolutely no chemistry.

[identity profile] once-a-weaver.livejournal.com 2012-08-02 10:54 am (UTC)(link)
I've rewatched this recently all the way through and then some episodes I just wanted to see again :) I don't seem to get enough ever.

[identity profile] dangermousie.livejournal.com 2012-08-03 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
Such a perfect perfect drama

[identity profile] singing-tree.livejournal.com 2012-08-02 12:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh Legend, I do miss you. It's been too long.
I will definitely join you!

[identity profile] dangermousie.livejournal.com 2012-08-03 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
Yes! Let's start this weekend!

[identity profile] eraeos.livejournal.com 2012-08-02 02:00 pm (UTC)(link)
I might join you! I've never watched the entire series of Legend - just the first four eps - but I loved watching Dam-deok outwitting his aunt and uncle. Plus, Sujini seems like a refreshing heroine!

[identity profile] dangermousie.livejournal.com 2012-08-03 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
Yay! And Sujini is amazing

[identity profile] lydzi.livejournal.com 2012-08-02 02:30 pm (UTC)(link)
hslkuthiozagf Just watching that mv makes me smile. I love so so much Legend. By far my favourite kdrama along Capital Scandal :).

[identity profile] dangermousie.livejournal.com 2012-08-03 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
Yes yes yes

[identity profile] iheartkleenex.livejournal.com 2012-08-03 05:08 am (UTC)(link)
I'm totally up for a rewatch. Haven't seen the drama is a couple of years now. Although we might not be a perfect match since Sujini was my least favourite character, I couldn't stand her sometimes. I found Kiha to be a much more complex and kickass character.

[identity profile] dangermousie.livejournal.com 2012-08-04 05:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I didn't care for Kiha because she was martyr-type and it's not my thing, but the actress was great.
