I am Legend - who will be Kim Sun Ah's leading man

Now that I am Legend has been rushed into production for a May broadcast, I keep wondering who they are going to cast as the male lead opposite Kim Sun Ah? This is such a rush job they don't really have the time to look around.

Unless they are going for a younger man storyline, their leading guy has to be over 30 and I can't think of anyone who'd fit.

People like Kang Ji Hwan (it would actually be pretty interesting to see them together), Gong Yoo, Song Seung Heon, Cha Seung Won, Kwon Sang Woo, Song Il Gook, Park Shi Hoo, Ji Sung etc are all either doing dramas now or will be doing dramas or movies shortly and thus can't take on another one. A whole bunch of actors who'd be suitable are in the army. I honestly can't think who is left. This is completely random but Park Yong Ha is age-appropriate and has no drama coming up. But other than him I can't come up with anyone. Maybe Lee Sung Jae or Park Shin Yang (but the latter is banned by the studios). Hmmm.

Guesses? Suggestions?

I am horribly curious.

I'm not sure who would be a good leading man (despite my current all-consuming love for kdramas I'm a very recent convertee and still don't know all the names) but I was wondering if you knew the story behind Park Shin Yang's banning? I read something about pay disputes but it seemed like a hefty punishment, if that was the case.

It was something ridiculous like he wanted to be given his paycheck and the company didn't want to fork over the dough.

ETA: I actually think he won his lawsuit so the ban is lifted, but no one has hired him since then.

He sued them to get paid, not over the ban, I believe.

Seriously? That is just so stupid. Don't agree to pay the man and then get mad when he actually expects to BE PAID.

HE IS STILL BANNED and I don`t think he will be unbanned any time soon!!!
He was banned because of his SUPER EGO (HIS PURE ARROGANCE, INSENSITIVITY AND GREED). - in a time when broadcasting stations and drama productions were in a lot of financial trouble and when ALL celebrities were OK with reduced wages or getting their paycheck later – HE HAD THE NERVE TO REQUEST 170 MILLION WON PER EPISODE of "War of Money" (He is the 2nd highest paid actor in Korean entertainment history)- BTW , production company sold the whole drama (rights to air in Korea) to SBS for less than 170 million won.
They paid him 170 per episode for the planned episodes which caused the production company a lot of financial problems- THAN HE TOLD THEM HE WANTED 682 MILLION FOR THE ADDITIONAL EPISODES without any regard for the drama and all the other cast and crew members salaries and working conditions .
HE THOUGHT HE WAS MORE IMPORTANT THAN THE DRAMA AND THE ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY ITSELF –That got him banned- and rightfully so!!!!!!!
The whole lawsuit thing is only slightly related to the reason for which he was banned:
As I said the production complied with his request (they signed the contract saying he will get 682 million won) but failed to pay up in full- he sued them- the issue is now resolved: HE WAS ASKING FOR 682 MILLION WON FOR THE ADDITIONAL EPISODES – THE COURT DECIDED (less than a month ago) THAT He WAS ASKING FOR TOO MUCH - HE WON THE LAWSUIT BUT THE COURT STATED THAT HE SHOULD BE GIVEN 380 MILLION INSTEAD OF 682 MILLION WON.
Just for the reference:
Bae Yong-joon got W250 million per episode for the MBC drama "The Legend"( but his paycheck did not jeopardize the whole drama cuz The Lagend had tons of investors because of Bae Yong-joon himself- War of Money was jeopardized by Park Shin-yang`s greed cuz Park Shin-yang is not a HUGE investment magnet like BYJ)
Lee Byeong-Heon was paid W100 million per episode for appearing in the KBS drama "IRIS"- Lee's co-stars in "IRIS", Kim Seung-woo and Jung Jun-ho, were reportedly paid W15 million per episode.

If they don't like what he charges per drama, they don't have to agree.

I can request $1 million at a job interview and the employer has a right to laugh in my face. However, if the employer promises to pay me, guess what - he has to pay. They didn't like PSY's rates, they didn't have to hire him. (Same for extension - they didn't like what he was asking for per extended ep, they didn't have to extend). They paid him because they assumed they could make more money from the drama/extension than they would spend paying him. Whether they were correct or not is really none of PSY's business or fault.

Acting is a business like any other and I don't feel sorry for a production company which can't abide by the terms it agreed to. I am sorry, but I am still on PSY's side here and I am not a fan of his - never seen him in anything, in fact.

It's not a matter of how greedy he is. The production company came to an agreement with him regarding his pay for the additional episodes. Like [livejournal.com profile] dangermousie said - they didn't have to agree to his request. But they signed a contract and he was completely within his rights to expect them to hold up their end of the bargain.

I would find fault with him if he had signed the contract and then not shot the extra episodes.

Sometimes contracts can be overturned- when they are ridiculous (selling an apartment for one Euro) or unfair- which is why the court decided Park Shin Yang should get his money, but he should get less than what he asked for.
It is quite simple actually:
DBSK unfair contract- they should have been paid more and some of their rights were violated so the unfair contact became invalid and the court decided the way things should go from then on.
Park Shin Yang made the production company to sign an unfair contract- the judges decided to make that contract invalid- they decided that the production company should pay less.
That is the legal side.
The ban is a different thing altogether:
The company had to extend the drama cuz it was in their contract with the SBS- which means that the whole situation rested in Park Shin Yang`s hands and instead of understanding the situation he decided to play GOD.
HE THOUGHT HE HAD THE RIGHT TO JEOPARDIZE LIVES OF CAST AND CREW MEMBERS and the outcome of drama (if they paid him on time 150-ish people would have to wait for their paycheck and the crew would have to work double shifts - over 80 people would be more prone to injury or illness because of it)
That is the reason no one wants to work with him- which is why they united (31production Company and 3 broadcasting stations) and banned him.
“I can request $1 million at a job interview and the employer has a right to laugh in my face”

The employer also has a right to tell you that if you make such ridiculous requests at other job interviews – you will never get a job.
And that is what the Union did – this ban is just their massage: “Park Shin Yang, you don`t have to bother looking for a job cuz no one will accept the person capable of putting others in physical or financial danger and putting a company in for a financial catastrophe!!!!!!”
BTW I AM A FAN OF Park Shin Yang `s acting but I am not one of those unrealistic ones- I can see that he was banned for a reason – the thing is, he was banned for two years already – MAYBE IT IS TIME TO LIFT THE BAN (I am sure he reflected on his acts and will never dare to do such a ridiculous thing again)!!!!!!
BUT Korea is not the US- even Epik High`s INSTRUMENTAL album got banned (there are no lyrics WT*?! LOL)- That is the reason why I wrote that I don`t think he will be unbanned any time soon.
