It's not a matter of how greedy he is. The production company came to an agreement with him regarding his pay for the additional episodes. Like dangermousie said - they didn't have to agree to his request. But they signed a contract and he was completely within his rights to expect them to hold up their end of the bargain.

I would find fault with him if he had signed the contract and then not shot the extra episodes.
