Daily update

1. Preview for ep 18 of IRIS:

I am getting really nervous - Hyun Joon seems to be suspecting Seung Hee - if she is a member of IRIS then I will positively die. NO, please please please.

2. I managed to watch more of Will It Snow for Christmas - so ridiculously good, and written in such a way that I can buy the childhood love foundation because (1) they were high-school age, so more likely to stick in mind and also interacted a lot; (2) both went on to be functional and not just fantasizing about the other every night; (3) most important - their relationship was literally life-changing for her, for spoilery reasons, so it would definitely stick in her memory and also - she's basically the one bright thing in a pretty soul-killing life, for him - no wonder he gloms.

Have a yummy yummy bit:

3. Apparently a new trailer for Slave Hunters/Chuno aired after IRIS which has Dae Gil/Hye Won bits - at last! (My shipping preferences for this drama change like the wind - if they show her with Tae Ha, I ship her with Tae Ha, if they show her with Dae Gil, I ship her with Dae Gil. Maybe they should all get together in one OT3 of angst and hotness. Though considering I am already shipping for a drama which won't air for a month, perhaps the less said about me, the better :P). There is...wait for it...piggybacking! Hopefully he left his sword at home at that time :)

ETA: Here it is. OMGOMGOMGOMGOMG (((Hye Won)))

4. Because I couldn't get Snow Xmas to work last night, I ended up watching eps 4 and 5 of Innocent Love and much fun was had by all - girlfriend-in-a-coma Junya, beginning-to-remember-she-was-molested Kanon, homicidal-maniac Brother, serial-killer-eyes Choir Girl, euthanisia-happy Subaru, etc.

Woobies!

Poor darling! I just want to hug him and tell him everything will be all right. Flisters promised me.

5. And now for the ridiculous: apparently Lee Byung Hun is being slapped with a breach of promise lawsuit by a Canadian woman. Article on Dramabeans. Long story short: LBH dated some Canadian girl, and now she alleges he "lured" her to Korea by promises of marriage but once she moved, stuck her in a house in Seoul and didn't visit her much. I only have three thoughts on this (1) if this is true, all that makes him is a bad boyfriend and, arguably, a jerk (I wouldn't even go that far - people get bored in relationships all the time and walk out). If you could sue a guy for being a jerk, the judicial system would break from overload and die; (2) Bwaahahahahaha - that's subject to a lawsuit???? I thought breaches of promise actions died with Queen Victoria; and (3) Oh, LBH, why on earth do you even need to sweet-talk? I am pretty sure there are scores of attractive ladies who'd be happy to get together with you in exchange for a promise - a promise of a one-night stand :D

6. My Kindle seems to have died :( I need it! I don't post about books much on here because I talk about them elsewhere, but I've been powering through early P.G. Wodehouse (British humorist-novelist and my favorite writer) and I need my fix. I am in the minority where I prefer early Wodehouse to his 'mature' work - the style in his later work gets even more polished and perfect but his earlier books have emotion, and I like that. Can anyone imagine Bertie Wooster with a heart? I am especially in love with "Jill the Reckless" (Jill is awesome, and Wally = love, plus there is all that stuff about play-making and production which PGW knew intimately) but The Intrusion of Jimmy is also a ridiculous delight.

7. [livejournal.com profile] crumpeteer's picspam inspired me to check out SyFy's Alice. I liked Tin Man and I generally like riffs on classics. That reminds me, must give "The Looking Glass Wars" a look.

re: IRIS ep. 18 preview:

I'm not getting that vibe at all. Could be an editing issue, could be KTH not playing it right, but in any case, all he does is ask: 'A phone call from a mysterious source led the terrorists to set you free. Aren't you curious why you were released?' And I think it's just sinking in for SH, after all, she was too groggy at the time & never knew about the phone call.

re: the LBH thing-- his fans @DCgall are driving me nuts. Yes, any lawsuit is upsetting, yes, it's outrageous he's been blackmailed & it took some toll on him (apparently they've been threatening him with phone calls since Nov), yes, why must this happen now, etc. but get a grip. If you trust him, trust him. He's not a defenseless, thin-skinned, child-like person over whom you need to bristle & weep & attack. They're just adding fuel to the drama, when the best thing would be to play it cool & let the lawyers take care of it.

[identity profile] dangermousie.livejournal.com 2009-12-09 05:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Phew - thanks for relieving my mind on IRIS. I do wonder why on earth Baeksan likes her so much. Hmm.

Re: LBH. I am sure he has excellent lawyers who can take care of it just fine. I am still boggled by the fact that you can apparently sue for breach of promise in Korea - heeee, why don't jilted secondary girls in dramas ever think of that course of action?

Haven't looked into the details, to be honest (just reminds me why I have to take a k-entertainment hiatus every now & then), but legal case sounds shaky and LBH's side may even have actual evidence of blackmail.

Ep. 17 is good, though you were right, they couldn't cram everything (ie. the print preview). Not much JJH but that's alright, it was one helluva heartbreaker of a scene. Ditto Kim SoYeon (though she had more airtime).

The extended preview of Chuno at the end hits all the right notes for me & does whet my appetite, but while I'm sure KBS is THRILLED to pieces they have such a terrific line-up back-to-back, feels like it controls me rather than the other way around. I need a looooooong break. Let's see how strong my willpower is once you start watching.

ETA: ep. 18 preview

Oy.

You know what?

You were right, I was wrong.

Oops, sorry, clarification.

No, he doesn't suspect she's IRIS, but there's definitely more to that scene.

Re: ETA: ep. 18 preview

[identity profile] dangermousie.livejournal.com 2009-12-10 04:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh God, is she a member of IRIS?

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

Re: ETA: ep. 18 preview

[identity profile] clairiere.livejournal.com 2009-12-10 04:39 pm (UTC)(link)
No, nothing as definitive as 'she's IRIS!'. But ep. 18 is pretty much all about 'who's SeungHee?'--some clues, no definitive answers, and all speculations for now.

Phew. *feels temporarily reprieved*

ZOMG Chuno could hardly look more delicious if it tried. I think what I like about it is that it both looks like it could be a fantastic romance AND has the vibe of one of those epic historical epics ala Braveheart or Gladiator, right down to the soundtrack(and I'm not sure I've ever seen martial arts/fighting this good in a drama - movies, yes, dramas, no).

I wasn't planning on watching Xmas necessarily since I hate childhood stories, but this one sounds unusually sensible and it does seem giddily romantic, so I think I will. though I stil think Go Soo has an expressionless face.

I read the LBH article this morning and it blew my mind for the lulz:)

I love Wodehouse, though I'm like others in preferring his later stuff(Jeeves is later right?)

[identity profile] dangermousie.livejournal.com 2009-12-09 05:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Chuno looks so ridiculously good. Every new bit out makes me so excited.

ETA: I totally died at the piggybacking bit - it's the only non-grimy part of the whole drama. OTOH, LDH being dragged away - yikes.

Re: Xmas. Childhood stuff is only the first ep and it's not the only reason they like each other, I promise. (Plus, to me, huge difference between resuming a teen romance and one which happened when you were 10).

Re: LBH. Seriously, I feel bad for the guy, it must have been stressful, but lololololol.

Yup, Jeeves is later. I love that, just love earlier stuff more.

[identity profile] ambergold.livejournal.com 2009-12-09 06:08 pm (UTC)(link)
the piggybacking killed me nineteen different ways:)

Plus, to me, huge difference between resuming a teen romance and one which happened when you were 10 - exactly so, this is why I hate most childhood stories because the kids "fall in love" when they're around 10 and honestly, I don't even REMEMBER when I was ten! everything before age 14 or so is pretty much a blur except for a few random scattered images - so for me to believe that they go around the rest of their life shaped and driven by their memory of some cute kid they liked when they were 10 is just laughable to me - particularly since as adults even if it is a treasured memory they would/should still possess the maturity to move on. ha.

but yes - I can totally buy high school romance because they're old enough to really fall in love and it's such a hormonal time that it always deeply effects your life

[identity profile] dangermousie.livejournal.com 2009-12-09 06:11 pm (UTC)(link)
I have memories of having a torrid summer romance with two boys at the same time (we had our own love triangle) when I was about 7. It was sweet and wonderful and I actually remember the feeling so well - being attractive, and excitement, and pleasure.

But. The point is that I do not remember their names or faces at all. So even if I ever ran across them, I would never ever recognize them. So yeah - not super believable.

Now, that boy I crushed on when I was 12? Another matter entirely :P

[identity profile] ambergold.livejournal.com 2009-12-09 08:39 pm (UTC)(link)
we had our own love triangle writing your own kdrama, hmm?;)

Now, that boy I crushed on when I was 12? Another matter entirely :P lol

[identity profile] itshelene.livejournal.com 2009-12-09 06:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I just have one thing to say, because I am shunning IRIS spoilers like the plague, but Korea seriously has some absurd laws. Come on, who sues somebody because they've been dumped? And doesn't everybody know that LBH is a playboy? That girl is so going to feel wrath of the Korean Netizen. LOL.

[identity profile] dangermousie.livejournal.com 2009-12-09 09:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Seriously - I thought the knowledge that he liked laaaadies was one of those kpop basics :)

I can't believe you can sue over that stuff. I'd be rich.

[identity profile] boycottbananas.livejournal.com 2009-12-09 06:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I loved Alice so I hope you do too. And since you liked Tin Man, you'll probably like Alice. XD And Hatter! He stole my heart from the first scene. :'D

[identity profile] dangermousie.livejournal.com 2009-12-09 09:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Yay!

[identity profile] crumpeteer.livejournal.com 2009-12-09 10:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Hatter's a quirky little doll, isn't he? He reminded me of a more sane, socially acceptible (and clean) Jack Sparrow.

[identity profile] uhmbrr.livejournal.com 2009-12-09 06:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Chuno. Looks. So. So. So. Good.

I haven't spazzed over a drama since... ohmyGod since Dalja's Spring. Of course not comparable but still. It's been a damn long time!

and these fangirls are so ridiculous and annoying. I mean they compared Lee Byung Hun to Tiger Woods who cheated on his WIFE and damaged his family. Worse, even, they compare him to Polanski. Whatintheactualfaaaaaaaack.

To Ms. Canada,

gurrrrl, it’s a privilege to be in LBH’s harem. calm down. that’s called a RELATIONSHIP, it’s not being “lured” into something sinister. It’s called a relationship. You either win some or lose some. There are baggages. There are prince charmings. There are douchebags. he happens to be one.

End of the day---- it is YOUR choice. So accept that you got dumped and thank LBH for his beautiful, great service.

And seriously, if I can sue for all the crappy boyfriends I had, LOL I'm going to be Britney Spears' empire now.

[identity profile] dangermousie.livejournal.com 2009-12-09 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
LOLOL at your comment.

Polanski and Woods? Really? Polanski raped a 13 yr old, and Tiger cheated on his wife. LBH had a consensual relationship with an adult woman and that relationship didn't work out and he was a bit of a jerk. How is that news?

Chuno - I am going crazy for it.

[identity profile] mishane.livejournal.com 2009-12-09 06:59 pm (UTC)(link)
DO NOT TEMPT ME WITH WILL IT SNOW FOR CHRISTMAS WHEN I KNOW IT WILL NOT SNOW BECAUSE EVERYONE DIES!!!!

Man, I am watching like 5 currently airing k-dramas and I was all, hmmm, should I watch this? Nah. . but now I'm tempted.

What to do???

[identity profile] dangermousie.livejournal.com 2009-12-09 09:07 pm (UTC)(link)
They might not die - Thank You seems to have mellowed her out.

This is so goooood.

[identity profile] mishane.livejournal.com 2009-12-09 07:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Also, regarding the LBH thing?

I'm so happy I don't live in Korea because I would have been sued up the wazoo!! I've actually never been dumped but I've been a dumper (hehe, poop) quite a few times and couldn't imagine how poor I'd be after the lawsuits.

Silly laws!

[identity profile] dangermousie.livejournal.com 2009-12-09 09:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I've been both a dumper and dumpee so I'd clearly have to live in court :)

[identity profile] vierran45.livejournal.com 2009-12-09 07:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm beginning to get more and more interested in Chuno though I'm usually not too fond of historical dramas (most of them are so long :P). All the pictures and clips that I've seen look just amazing!

I'm still slowly downloading Alice, but it does look like a very interesting take on the story.

[identity profile] dangermousie.livejournal.com 2009-12-09 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Chuno is a manageable 24 eps which makes me so happy.

[identity profile] crumpeteer.livejournal.com 2009-12-09 10:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Looking Glass Wars is like reading a movie. I've never read a book that was so ready made for the screen (I think that was his point). Highly enjoyable reading though.

[identity profile] dangermousie.livejournal.com 2009-12-10 03:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I started and am cracking up at Wondertropolis. Come on, come up with a cleverer name :)

[identity profile] meganbmoore.livejournal.com 2009-12-11 05:08 am (UTC)(link)
Wait until you see Redd "cut loose."

[identity profile] meganbmoore.livejournal.com 2009-12-10 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
I have been excited for Alice for months (way back when SyFy first put the trailer out and didn't even mention it on the website and I don't think they even had an official air date then), and can't wait to watch it this weekend.

LGW is fun, but Beddor doesn't even try to hide the fact he wrote it to be a movie and the other formats (books and comic) are to get buzz and a fandom for the movie he wants. It usually works ok, but there are certain times when I cringe over how the description works fine when explaining how a scene in a movie should be set up, but is horribly awkward with prose. And while he's great with the riffing and fun, he's terrible at other things.

[identity profile] dangermousie.livejournal.com 2009-12-10 03:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I checked out LGW and it seems intertaining

[identity profile] joonni.livejournal.com 2009-12-10 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
I watched Will it snow on Christmas and I am totally spazzing right now.

Chuno looks amazing. But I want more OTP in the trailers.

[identity profile] dangermousie.livejournal.com 2009-12-10 03:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Xmas really is gold.

Re: Chuno. So do I!

CHUNO

[identity profile] elizabennet69.livejournal.com 2009-12-10 09:10 am (UTC)(link)
The preview looks amazing. I want to watch is right now amazing.

As for LBH, that woman is weird. Maybe there is more to the story but the way it is right now, I have to agree that the whole thing is laughable in a sad way. Maybe he was mean to her and it was a bitter end and she felt like getting back whichever way she can. Maybe she is a pshyco and lost touch with the reality. Who knows?

Breaking up with a person needs to be tactful and as kind as possible, otherwise it can get really bad (I learned this the hard way)

Re: CHUNO

[identity profile] dangermousie.livejournal.com 2009-12-10 03:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I want Chuno to come out yesterday!

yeah, so far the LBH thing just sounds like a bad breakup.
