Yes, if it ended up 14, it would have been a very good drama. By ending in 16, it became perfect.

Also, I don't understand the insistence that it's only the monk who could make things possible - I agree with timescout below that it was never the monk, it was YW's feelings (and at the end, HJ's). I don't see why it's less plausible that someone's feeling can make someone time-travel than some old guy writing it could - it's fantasy either way.
