I read my first Sayers only recently (Strong Poison) so I'm skipping over the portion of your post behind the cut. Anyway, I fully intend to read the complete collection, starting with Whose Body? -- which is already on my Christmas list!
I thought the funniest chapter in SP was Peter's conversation with C.I. Charles Parker about Parker's intentions towards Mary Wimsey. It cracked me up. Also, there's a chapter where Peter visits a gathering of arty, bohemian types, Sayers is kind of sending up their pretensions, and I found it really striking how little had changed. Like, the art and the music is different now, obviously, but the attitudes are very similar. Oh, and I enjoyed the Dowager Duchess of Denver's monologues very much and look forward to more from her in the other novels. So far, I like the *idea* of Harriet Vane, but I don't think you get a very strong sense of her in Strong Poison. I mean, you hear about her from other characters, but not much from the lady herself.
If the BBC decided to make a mini-series, who do you imagine in the role of Lord Peter Wimsey? I like to think of Rupert Penry Jones with a monocle and his hair slicked back, but I don't think the character is supposed to be nearly as handsome as old Rupert. :)
