I still haven’t seen Pirates of the Caribbean 3. Aaaaaargh.

Being a good girl and waiting until Mr. Mousie can go too (this weekend) is killing me. One more day, one more day, one more day.

I have tried reading the infamous Cassandra Cla(i)re’s City of Bones novel. In the bookstore. (Leaving aside everything else, I am not paying $17 unless I am pretty well sure I’ll love the book).

OK, I was never enough in the Potter fandom to have strong views on the whole CC-plagiarizer-BNF thing (and confess enjoying Draco Sinister when much younger) but my Lord.

Forget her rep or what not. What a terribly boring book on its own merits. I got stuck by page 30 and honestly, could not proceed. I like my prose purple but this was so baroque that it wasn’t even readable. Felt like a fifteen year old trying to be deep. I was drowning in the sea of useless adjectives. Also, Jace, her male hero, is sort of like her Draco and hey, I am a lot more tolerant of fanfic than I am of the published word mess.

(Also, is it just me, or is CC very influenced by Dunnett’s Lymond Chronicles? Her Draco and now her Jace give a bargain-basement discount Lymond vibe. Only you know, not awesome).

Oh well. It’s not a terrible book by any means, but it’s lacking.

And speaking of Lymond. I blame Lymond for my constant fictional fixation on powerful, incredibly messed up intellectuals. Heck, all my fictional crushes are Lymondish in some way.

Even Ash from the Dark-Hunter books. Seriously. Gorgeous messed up guys who have a psycho family, messed up past, issues with intimacy/sex/being touched/being a hor, do not let anyone close and seem to throw themselves into abusive relationships? Yeah.

Of course, that would make Simi Ash’s Slata Baba and Artemis some sort of Guzel/Margeret Lennox hybrid and my brain is boggling already. Of course, that means there will eventually be a Philippa and that is giddiness-inducing.

Is Nick going to be Richard or Austin?

Though with Simi and Ash, I think they fit the Little Prince story a lot more than Zarek does. Hmmm.

OK, the above probably made no sense to anyone.

I really need my Lymond fix-reread.

Re: Dark-Hunter books. I read Talon’s book and while Talon didn’t particularly grabbed me, I loved loved LOVED all the Zarek and Ash stuff. I kept wanting the book to be about them: the novel was chock-full of secondaries who sort of took over and I loved every bit.

Now I am reading Valerius’ book. Hmm. I am mixed on that. Tabitha is a raving loony. If I had to be in a room with her for more than ten minutes, I’d murder her. She is so shrill and pushy and just act-before-you-think and seriously? STAB. And Valerius is OK but I can’t muster feeling bad for him, not compared to Zarek or whoever. Boo-hoo, no one likes him. Blah.

Oh, and am continuing Sweet 18 and it’s adorable. Poor HJH. She wants to marry him (because she isn’t insane) but he isn’t biting. Heeee. I don’t even dislike her for being intrusive because she is so fun and also so very young.
