Secondary Lead Revenge - Festival

dangermousieI have surprised myself by being excited upon hearing about the upcoming musical drama (yes, another one) Festival, which stars Jung Yong Hwa as college rock band leader (knowing kdrama, rock = fluffiest pop) and Park Shin Hye as a chaebol's daughter studying a traditional musical instrument.
I honestly have no idea why. I disliked You're Beautiful, I am usually too old for college dramas, I think Jung Yong Hwa is gorgeous (though in that airbrushed idol way that isn't really my thing, I like my guys rougher around the edges) but cannot act his way out of a paper bag, and while Park Shin Hye is fine in heavy dramatic roles (Tree of Heaven), but stick her into a romcom and she becomes posessed by the spirit of Gu Hye Sun and starts overacting as if her life depended on insane mugging.
It could be because of the PD - he did Full House and Worlds Within - the former was my first kdrama and the latter is my favorite kdrama of all time. It could be because I've been swimming in period drama emo and this sounds like a nice break. It could be because I like the idea of the second lead graduating to getting the girl. It could be that for some reason this makes me think of twdramas which are full of gorgeous men who can't act and cute girls who overact, and yet somehow twdramas remain endlessly charming for me. It could be that I am happy that, for once, there is a drama involving bands that doesn't star Jang Geun Seok :P It could be that by the end of YAB, Jung Yong Hwa's character was the only one I could stand - the power imbalance in the main couple drove me insane and if I am never reminded of the blond idiot with his unending "Jolieeeeeeeee", this would be too soon.
But for whatever reason, I am quite excited about this. Knowing how I function, I'll probably watch a few eps, enjoy them, then get bored/annoyed/obsessed with watching a Hu Ge* drama and ditch, but for now I am very happy about this.
* Withs2 has two of his upcoming dramas listed on their "possible future projects" list. Yes please! I wonder if one of their c-translators is a Hu Ge fan or something? Hooray!
