1. Last Exile is totally boring me. I went from watching it while reading to taking a bath while Husband watches it. He just summarizes it all for me. But it severely appeals to him so it makes me happy as must make up for his having to a. drag me to bed at 3:30am yesterday from watching Meteor Garden (me: I'll come to bed soon, I promise. him: I know you, you'll watch it till 7 am) and b. having to, in consequence, to put up with me watching it today.

2. Finding good anime fanfic is impossible. If you like weird, uncanonical slash pairings, you can find good fic actually. But look for normal Hana Yori Dango fic? Or Fushigi Yuugi? Or MARS? Or Escaflowne? Or Trigun? Give it up. In the best case scenario, you are going to get badly spelled Doumyouji/Tsukushi sex or how it's Van and Hitomi turning into R&J. In the worst case scenario? Let's just say that it makes Harry Potter mpreg seem nice. Surely I can't be the only grown-up person who likes any of these and likes fic. But hey, it's still better than finding Meteor Garden fic. Because there isn't any. Do I have to write my own? I want to read DMS/SC fic. Now. Argh.

3. I have a horrible temptation to write some Shi-Mein/Shiao You fic. Or (depending on the spelling) Xi Men/Xiao You fic. Heck, I am not even even sure how to spell their names but I don't care, because have shocked myself by becoming a rabid shipper for a ship almost no one else seems to care about one way or another (people don't dislike it, it's just there is nothing about it I can find, not in English, at least). Because there simply isn't any fic out there, good bad or indifferent. I think I have just found myself a shipper for the most obscure ship ever. I am actually even going to watch Meteor Rain because it has a vignette dealing with them. And I want to find out what happened to their equivalents in the manga. Also, shipping for a ship who does not end up together is making me kinda grouchy. She moves to Canada and he mopes for a bit and goes back to his old ways does not a happy Dangermousie make, realism be damned. The ending in Meteor Rain re: that storyline better be open ended, is all I am going to say.

4. Jackie on Veronica Mars. I love the girl. She is not this season's Logan (a hated character we begin to like), she is this season's Veronica. Someone who is shallow and useless but grows and matures under pressure. After all, watching the show with Veronica 1.0, shallow, shy, Lilly-follower, lover of puppies and kittens and ditcher of unpopular people, would be deadly dull. Yay Jackie! You are cooler than status quo Veronica, actually.

5. Lee and Dee: pretty together. Happy and nice together. Good for them, but not very exciting to watch. So I am OK with them being the eternal ship as long as they don't spend too much time on them.

6. I am still obsessed with Fushigi Yuugi. I have the hots for a 17-year-old martial genius from a book world patterned on Ancient China, which is kinda disturbing. But I can't help it. I also have an urge to be immature and write Miaka+Tamahome=4evr on my notebooks. Except I don't have any notebooks any more. Also, Trigun is love (and peace, I suppose).

7. I have the horrifying thought that I already ran through Hollywood and Bollywood movies and now have moved on to Asian entertainment (it certainly helps that the world is full of pretty men of every ethnicity), so what shall I do when I run through that? I don't think Namibia makes that many films.

8. Bollywood is good. Also full of eye candy.

Yes, I already did my 2.17 post. But this is random rambling.

Still thinking about the hand-holding. Lee. Kara. Making up. This is the longest handshake ever. They just don't let go. Honestly, I wouldn't want to be Anders or Dee in their lives, because aside from being a secondary character on a show that loves to murder its secondaries, no matter the shmoopy luv Lee or Kara feel for their significant others, those SOs will always come second to their friendship.

Babies? Roslin, there is a logical problem. Even assuming you are into Victorian labor laws, children are not very efficient things. You'll have to wait at least 7 years before they can do even the simplest labor, and until then they are a pure drain on your resources (and even after that, until they are 14 or so, they still aren't super useful). Considering the fleet has shortages, having babies is not so good unless you make the rationing system work (which you haven't) and more importantly, solve the shortages problem. Because while they might be useful later, for now kids will just cripple the fleet's ability to function. It's not as if you are a settler society with plenty of food and a lot of space you need to populate. You are in a finite resources situation and what you ideally need are grown-ups, skilled ones. Heck, even old people, as long as they aren't senile and can work, are more useful.

Also, abortion issue is kinda different. Roslin was pro-choice, right? But their scriptures say abortion is an abomination? Well, unlike in our world, I'd give this a bit more weight as it seems the scriptures were absolutely literally right about the Tomb of Athena, Kobol, map to earth etc. So the existence of Gods is kinda...more probable. By a lot. Also, can't pick and choose. If your literal interpretation of one part of scriptures is what makes you a prophet and gives you authority and also gave you a path to earth (and thus both proves its rightness and is what made you the boss), you really can't deny other parts of the scriptures because they don't appeal to you. In this sense, Roslin's personal sense of morality might be going against the Gods' literally. It's sort of like Moses arguing with God on the Mountain about 'thou shall not commit adultery.' He can still do so, and can still disagree, clearly, and think it's wrong or whatever, but the argument takes on an entirely different tone and approach.

The best way to have lunch? Getting a stuffed pretzel and a juice at neighborhood Borders, spreading the books they allow you to bring into the dining area with you (smart move on their part, I've bought many a book after perusing it this way). There is no giddy feeling to compare with when you first open a new book and realize it's a whole other world for you to fall in love with. And they know it!

Today my haul was very modest. Tanuja Desai Hidier's Born Confused. It was a Desi novel for less than $8 and sounded like Bollywood in book form. Of course, prior to buying it I made sure it ended in the way I liked, as after Vikram Seth's A Suitable Boy, any Indian-themed novel with words "suitable" and "boy" in close proximity makes me nervous (ASB might be a masterpiece of world lit but the ending of it pissed me off enough to want to hunt down Mr. Seth).

On the way out I also saw a thick novel entitled Darcy and Elizabeth: days and nights at Pemberley. By the description on the back (I can't resist a train-wreck), I was delighted to discover that someone published an explicit P&P fanfic. Yay. Indeed.

During the lunch itself I had the best time reading the first volume of Yuu Watase's manga Alice 19th. Why? I loved Fushigi Yuugi anime that was based on a manga of hers. After finding out the plot of Alice I realize it's the 4th manga of Watase that holds to the belief that a teen girl is key to saving the world (FY, Ceres and Genbu are the other 3). Ergo, Yuu Watase and Joss Whedon are an OTP made in heaven. I won't be buying any volumes as the concept is a simplistic metaphor (words can literally hurt or kill, wow, compleeeeeex), and Alice herself is too meek, but I had a great time reading this volume and will eventually read all of them in the bookstore. Why? One word: Kyo. A gorgeous protective guy who is on the archery team and loves to bake. Boy did I go to the wrong school. And I took archery for a semester, too.

Don't believe me on my shallowness (or Kyo's hotness?). Pictorial Evidence )
