First off, to the news: apparently they cast Umi for BOF. Ahahahahahaaa! How they are going to fit amnesia with two eps remaining and about 80 plot points unresolved, I have no idea. Seriously, by now I watch BOF the way I would a trainwreck (and yes, they fit it into one ep in Hanadan2, but Hanadan2 had very fast pace to start with, no other outstanding issues, and, unlike with this writer, I trusted Hanadan2 writer who knew what he was doing).

You know why I did only GE/YJ picspam? I took other caps throughout the ep, but I didn't even feel like bothering to upload them. I think ep 23 finally wore even me down and I am losing interest faster than this story lost all common sense. I felt close to nothing during either happy happy date or angsty angsty break-up: these characters ceased to make any emotional sense to me some time back so I have no emotional investment in them. Plus, by this point I find Jandi and Jun Pyo so irritating, I just want them to resolve their boring issues brought on by their boring passivity, and get off my screen. Not to mention the chemistry between them seemed lacking in this ep.

Honestly, lamest break-up in a drama I have ever seen. I cried during break-up in Hanadan2, and when I saw Meteor Garden for the first time, there might have been a sniffle or two as well. Here? Nothing. But then here I don't even believe in their love in the first place...

Btw, now I know dramabeans and myself have polar opposite in tastes - she didn't like My Girl and the way the story was wrapped up there, and to me, it's one of the most perfectly made dramas out there, and the resolution is pitch-perfect in making sense.

But then, MG had the Hong Sisters writing it (three of their four dramas are in my Top 10) and this has a lady whose overwhelming characteristics seem to be a crush on Kim Hyun Joong and utter inability to write.

I am soooo feeling ya! So sad how all our enthusiasm for this show has slowly been strangled to death when we were all so willing to cut it lotsa slack and enjoy it anyway. I still haven't mustered up the energy to finish ep 22. Had to stop when JP & JD raced to see JK off at the airport... argh lalala... thinking of something else. But yeah, Jandi and Junpyo, I just feel nothing for them anymore.

Funny thing - I went to my local Korean bakery this weekend and they were playing the BOF ost LOL!

It's amazing how fast my interest drained away.

I think checking out two other airing dramas: Princess Ja Myung and Cain & Abel, sealed the nail in the coffin - they are both so much better written and character consistent that it sort of made going back to BOF madhouse more glaring.

I've been trying to figure out my own feelings about BoF but can't really pinpoint what I feel. I was never that invested in the story to begin with and I've now come to realise that I've enjoyed other people's enthusiasm about it more than the actual drama. If that makes any sense. I still find it amusing enough but I will be glad when it's finally over. It's been an oddly exhausting experience.

I don't think I've ever seen as bipolar drama as this. And the middle was so draggay it made even me yawn! Remind me never to watch anything of this writer.... The actors deserved better. I hope they will all got to finer things.

I have never seen a drama this bipolar either. Some Bollywood movies, yes, but they are 3 hours long, so it's OK. This writer is awful - apparently it's her first drama but it will be her last one in terms of what I watch.

Speaking of good dramas - Return of Iljimae (which is the best drama of 2008 and 2009 so far, IMO) has subs for first ep out to download, in case you don't want to do viikii.

Well, I suppose they could salvage things by actually forgetting any supposed link to HYD and just call it any old thing, and then, to let the lady writer work through her rui/kim hyun jong issues. i always thought it was rather telling that they cast him in the show loooooooong before any of the others! surely, you start with your leads first, unless of course, she always wanted him to be the 'lead'... the whole thing just strikes me as something written by a teenager, who, as most teenagers are wont to do, ship rui/makino, and then, cos she doesn't quite have the guts to go completely anti-canon, grudgingly plonks in doumyouji in the middle of it, but also cant quite help herself but make his and makino's story completely lame.

maybe, someone will spare everyone and actually remove all the intervening crap and give us So-Eul! that should fit 1 or 2 eps! call it a mini-series special and i'll be interested.

Just hook Jandi up with JH already and end this mess - your comment about casting makes so much sense and I have never thought of it - just this thing is such a disaster now.

I completely agree!! They screwed this drama up so terribly I'm more than ready to move on and forget this ever happened. Thank god there's only two episodes left. And I honestly didn't feel a thing after watching episode 23... I think I'm suffering from angst-fatigue, and an overwhelming desire to strangle the writer. Seriously--WHY ARE THEY DOING THE UMI STORYLINE?!?! With only two episodes left, this is just ridiculous. I wish the actors would just say "nope-sorry--we're done." And let Jan-Di and Jun-Pyo kiss while the words THE END scroll across the screen. I really don't see any other way this mess could be saved.

Actually, if you read Dramabeans Drama Ratings, she actually does like My Girl (she gave it a 9/8 out of 10). I think she was more or less focused on the disaster that is the PD, since he has a tendency to use specific plot-points in most of his dramas over and over again. Personally, I don't mind over-used plot points myself... as long as they're used well (like in DGCH and My Girl). However, Boys Before Flowers DOESN'T use it well, hence my own complaint. ^_^

Yes please.

Yeah, it seems this PD needs a good scriptwriter - when he had the Hong Sisters we had DGCH and MG, both of which I adore, but Witch Yoo Hee, his previous drama, also fell apart like BOF, after a few excellent eps. I am not one of those people on soompi/hydkorea who wants eps of being shown the couple happy - a few minutes wrap-up is enough for me, but I am supposed to care that they get to this point, and now, I really don't - Jandi/JP can end up together, can go their separate ways, can jump off a pier - I don't care any more.

I just don't get why -WHY- they insist to make the Korean version in such a mess...
I mean, it had such promising beginning...then all went to hell. I just wondering, what's the point of this story? What does it want to tell us? Which "ship" are we suppose to rot for exactly? Yeah, I know that we are suppose to be shipping for Jandi and Jun Pyo but...just how are we suppose to do that?? How on earth have they manege to do what no other version have managed to do (screw up the Makino/Domyouji ship).
Sigh...such a waste...

There doesn't seem to be a point, you are right. Forget the shipping disaster, there is nothing about Domyouji learning to be a person under Makino's influence - in fact the fact that he was a bully isn't adressed at all and seems to be ignored like everything else. ugh.

...Umi? Um, why? LOL. I actually hated her in HYD2, a lot more than I disliked Shigeru. She didn't even redeem herself in the end! But what's funny is that I'm a big fan of Erika Toda (the fangirling of it kinda dwindled a little after RnK). XD

I still haven't fully gotten over her being Umi -a little residual wariness remains :)

I think I was supposed to be sad but I was all 'get off my screen so we could get back to Woo Bin or SoEul or something else fun'

I mean, I bawled bawled bawled in Hanadan2 at the break-up. Here? Nothing.

very true, but you forgot stupidity. Because even someone who can't write should be at least able to make the plot coherent/consistent/rational. Alas - no.

what makes me mad too is that technically I should be LOVING a writer who's in love with Hyun Joong, since I practically am too, but truthfully I think she's screwed over the Joondi and Jundi shippers equally. Is ANYONE going to be REALLY happy with this drama by the end - or will there just be mad rejoicing that it's over?

There seem to be people who still adore it and make comments to the effect that the differences between these characters and manga ones are only minimal (haaaaa!) or that this is way better because it's more realistic (what? Their reactions and interactions are horribly artificial) etc etc. Bizarre.
