Hold on, hold on: she searches for him in the rain, and he collapses on her shoulder and then she nurses him through a fever all night, as he holds her hand? And romantic music plays?

Now, that is just playing dirty, kdrama! Haven't we seen something like that in Mars? Only you know, with the OTP?

At this point, I don't even know what the writer is smoking, but it must be as illegal as it is expensive.

I haven't seen any of this drama yet, but honestly? I would be totally okay with them making Rui/Makino canon in this version. Yeah, I know, they'll probably pick back up with the Domyouji/Makino storyline eventually, but I always liked Rui better than Domyouji anyway.

Usually I never ship the alternaship in a kdrama because they never have enough canon or 'otp moments.' But in this one, if I didn't know better from the manga, I'd assume JH/Jandi were the endgame, the way they are writing them. I wish they were the final endgame, actually, by now.

If I wasn't already madly shipping Jihoo/Jandi, this would have been the final blow. *incoherent flailing at the caps*

I don't know what the writers are smoking, but those two have had so many OTP moments in this drama that they've made it really hard not to ship this pairing. It would actually be amazing if they did end up together, but they will probably ruin things and not do that.

And then Jihoo will be left alone, hurting. And grandpa will probably die of a heart attack on his arms after announcing that Jihoo has cancer or something like that. On JP and Jandi's wedding day. :P

Seriously, a BBC documentary about a bunch of boffins researching slipping on walking surfaces and how to survive catastrophes is getting more of my attention than BBF! and yep, i agree with you... watchin BBF is like watching a car-crash, in slo-mo!

maybe the rain scene is them trying to give us another version of drama dude angsting, usually in the shower, but hey, rain water works just as well to give us full-body drenching!

i think the writer has clearly forgotten that this is an adaptation of Hana Yori Dango! either that, or like you say, she/he/it is on something.

I was reading Javabeans blog and someone made a very good point about Indian dramas. In a lot of 'em first love is painted a fleeting and in the end it's the partners our parents choose who work out for the best. How I wish this was an Indian drama. This came up at Dramabeans the other day, but I have to say I totally agree: all four actors in this love square have amazing chemistry with one another, so any outcome of couples could work.

Lee Min Ho and Lee Min Jung have better sexual/romantic chemistry than LMH and Koo Hye Sun. Though, LMH and KHS do have great chemistry, it is much less adult than LMH and LMJ's chemistry. But, because they aren't the final OTP, they are trying very hard to suppress that. Meanwhile, the writers are going a bit crazy and acting writing their two characters as a possible end-game couple. It can't happen, because of the source materiel (unless they totally ignore that)but many of the scenes between JP and JK are very 'early episode bickering couple' that is so famous and formula in the kdrama world.

Then, you have KHS and Kim Hyun Joong, whose chemistry seems to be growing as the actors work together more and more. Plus, and while I don't think he's at the level of his peers, KHJ has grown a great deal in his acting over the last ten episodes or so. Their scenes are also being written as a very angsty and tragic OTP from some melodrama of the late '90s/early '00s. I suppose it is to show that Ji Hoo really has fallen for Jan Di, but the thing is: Ji Hoo/Rui is supposed to realize that while Jan Di is his soul mate, she isn't meant to be his wife. Which leads him to helping the "two idiots" get back together and end happily.

The same goes for Jae Kyung, who right about now should be realizing that JP and JD are meant to be, and she isn't meant to be with JP. Instead, she is still rather clingy.

With six episodes left, it is as if the writer doesn't know where to go, so he/she is just making up this whole new love story between the two (three?) couples. I'm not even sure who I'm supposed to be rooting for anymore, which may explain why I mostly watch Woo Bin, Yi Jung, and Ga Eul - at least they haven't fallen into some weird love triangle. I know what's going on with them, and while there are times when out of place chemistry pops up, I at least know who I'm supposed to be rooting for with those three.

Man, they are so channeling Beautiful Days or similar, it's kinda crazy.

Yeah, I think the writers really dug a hole for themselves - whichever way they go will piss off scads of fans. I should have remembered that this was done by people who thought Goong S was a great idea and be warned accordingly.

I am basically watching for secondary characters now too - a pity, really.

Having seen the caps i'm REALLY not looking forward to watching the latest episode but i will 'cos i'll take my Woobin any way i can.

What i don't get is how come none of the actors/director/SOMEONE have gone up to the writer and said, 'Er... You HAVE read HYD right? With the D/M ending? And all the OTP moments?!' 'Cos to be honest while i can see how Ji Hoo/Jandi looks SO good right now, i'd be more pissed off to see it as endgame. 'Cos then seriously, WHAT WAS THE POINT of the first half?! Plus it makes Jandi look terrible in that she goes from loving Ji Hoo as purely as he seems to now, to Jun Pyo and then finally clicks again that Ji Hoo's been there all along.

And there's a part of me that just wants Ji Hoo to be more proactive and tell Jandi he loves her. If only to MAYBE spur Jun Pyo to do something? At this point i almost like JaeKyung for actually trying to get her man any way possible. The girl's got a backbone. Maybe she should give some to Jandi and Jun Pyo.

Just... GAH! This drama is REALLY frustrating right now. :((

This scene made me flail so hard as a shipper. Although I wish that, since the writers are getting so far from the HYD story now, they'd have the guts to truly deviate from canon, aka have the JH/J as the end ship instead.

But judging by the amount of OTP shippiness in the past few episodes, the only thing that's stop me from thinking they are the endstory OTP is the original HYD canon,

I think so too, to echo some of the comments above, that BOF should just end the series with Ji Hoo/Jan Di and Jun Pyo/Jae Kyung. Otherwise they have just built our expectations in the wroooooong way. Even I'm starting to think that Jae Kyung is not half bad for Jun Pyo.

Did you not love the "truth" game -- when Ji Hoo asked Jun Pyo whether he'd let go of the girl he loved if he was causing her trouble? I wanted to scream YES!!! And when Jan Di said that her promise to Jun Pyo is no longer intact? Hah!! Suck it up, dude!!

Re: game. I think we are supposed to think JP is cool for not wanting to let go, but seeing that he is obeying Mama and stringing fiancee along too, in addition to making Jandi miserable, all I am thinking at his reply is: "selfish." Not letting the person you love go despite them being hurt is usually a crazed secondary girl trait!

Honestly, if they suddenly make this into a JH/JD drama, I will flip.

It's one thing to advertise about a shocking new twist in an already well established story before it airs (that buzz alone would have created a lot of fun speculation; and surely a Rui/Makino pairing would have been at the top of the list). But it's quite another to implement it half-way through the series without any kind of forewarning. All it does is leave people feeling unsatisfied and confused about who they're supposed to root for.

I would have no problem cheering for a JH/JD relationship if I thought it had any hope of happening... but I just don't think it does. I can't imagine Yoko Kamio giving the okay to change the story that drastically. So right now, all of this unnecessary bonding between the ill-fated OTP's seems so pointless. If it was something they had planned and *established* at the beginning, then this wouldn't even be an issue. But now, they're just wasting time that could be spent on the *real* drama, and the intended OTP... instead of creating false hope in a lot of JH/JD shippers, while angering a lot of JP/JD ones.

It makes me really want to rewatch the TW version. However, if I started it, I'd probably never bring myself to finish the Korean one...

Anyway, pardon the rant. I just had to get that off my chest since it's been silently brewing for a couple of weeks now. *kicks the writer and the PD*

I will have to disagree with you on some things. =) I can't say I'm a rabid D/M shipper but even in this version and portrayal of them I ship them so much more than Jan Di and Ji Hoo. The fact that they are apart doesn't stop me. They are apart for a reason and not because Jun Pyo is a jerk. How is he a jerk? We know why he broke up with her, we know why he tries to stay away from her and why he kind of dates his fiance. But it is clear that he doesn't want her, he keeps thinking and coming back to Jan Di. And I think the fact that they have such good chemistry just goes to show what a great actor Lee Min Ho is.
And also I remember watching Hana Yori Dango and the otp being apart for so long and Domiyoji getting his ear licked (bitten?) by his fiancee - it was horrible in the same way as in the Korean version. Korean handan's storyline might be uneven but not significantly worse than the Japanese.

Date: 2009-03-11 04:16 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] dangermousie.livejournal.com
He is a jerk - if he can't be with her, then let her go. If he wants to postpone because of fiancee/evil Mom/whatever, explain. In any event, whatever he decides to do, he owes Jandi an explanation and an apology - not demands to know where she's been after he's dumped her brutally and took up with another woman.

In Hanadan2, it never bugged me as much - for one thing it was nowhere as drawn out, for another I didn't think Domyouji was as much in control of himself or such a jerk about the break up.

i agree that lately the KHYD is more like a Ji Hoo and Jan Di pairing rather than JD and JP..... and even if they are trying to draw it out it seems like the writers haven't realized that they are making it hard for me to see JD and JP together now since JP seems fine with JK and JD seems better off with JH........

i think i need to watch JHYD to make myself a little happier since KHYD is pissin me off.....
