Twdramas were my first drama loves (Mars and Meteor Garden were my first and second drama, respectively) and you never forget your first love, do you?

That is why, much as I might love the slickness of kdrama and the understatedness of jdrama, few things will get me as giddy or emo as a well-done twdrama.

So, after I’ve done my Top Dozen Jdramas and my Top 25 Kdramas, the next logical step is the Top 10 Twdramas/Cdramas, isn’t it? So I did one over a year ago, but have found that I need to majorly revise it.

So here is my updated Top 10 twdrama/cdrama list. Once again, same thing applies: only finished ones (or nearly), as unspoilery as I can make it, blahblahblah.

List, with summaries, reasons, pics, and vids )

In conclusion, yes, Vic Zhou is still my favorite drama actor, all these dramas later.

I promise I'll reply to everyone ASAP.

I just found this gorgeous MV for Why Why Love, one of my fave twdramas of all time (behind only Mars and The Outsiders). It's about the main triangle:

Unlike Mars or The Outsiders, which can get (and in The Outsiders' case stay) grim, WWL is delightful and is guaranteed to leave you smiling (even if there certainly were eps near the end where I bawled and bawled).

I love WWL for many things: that rarity or rarities, a believable love triangle (I much prefer Huo Da but I can totally understand people who ship heroine with Huo Yan); ability to be both hilarious and heart-breaking; the sheer adorableness and awesomeness of the heroine (my favorite character in this); the OTP of wonderfulness and cuteness; the pacing; the fact that it fixes every problem I had with the trio's previous drama together, Devil Beside You.

But above all, I totally adore the fact that the heroine falls and ends up with a guy who is effectively her good friend, and not the aloof and sexy idealized crush of hers (who turns out to be quite awesome, too).

WWL is the drama that finally made me understand the fuss about Mike He/Rainie Yang pairing. So, give it a try! First couple of eps are fluffy and good and then it gets awesome.

[livejournal.com profile] hope_fuleigh had some awesome meta on it, or if you are inclined, you can check out my babblings. :)

Oh, and here is an adorable shippy vid:

So, after I’ve done my Top Ten Jdramas and my Top 20 Kdramas, the next logical step is the Top 10 Twdramas/Cdramas, isn’t it?

Only I kept putting it off because I yet haven’t seen some which might very well make it into my Top 10: My Lucky Star (which seems to have been universally loved), Corner with Love, The Outsiders 2 (Chances of that one making into my Top 10? 95%). And I haven’t even gotten to At Dolphin Bay, Lavender, Delicious Relationship etc. It’s like a person who only started reading listing their favorite books.

But I finally got tired of waiting to watch them (am impatient), so here is my Top 10 twdrama/cdrama list. Once again, same thing applies: only finished ones (or nearly), as unspoilery as I can make it, blahblahblah.

I finished Why Why Love in a total crying/grinning blur. Such angst (did they really need to compensate for the fact that it was relatively light until late in? This is a story with exchange coupons, racing, and college, not Vic Zhou's Silence, thank you very much) but ending on such sweetness.

Huo Da/Jia Di are such scarily awesome OTP.

The one thing I loved that even in the middle of the typically melodramatic drama cliche of 'break her heart and push her away to save her,' it felt really somehow real: the friends' anger and confusion, Xiao Di somehow characteristically plucky even in heart hear-break, and Huo Da is just so young and desperate.

My scene was Spoiler for the scene in ep 14 )

Anyway, picspam of awesomeness of ep 13 and first half of 15.

Oh, Why Why Love, why are you so awesome and heartbreaking? I am in the middle of ep 13, and Huo Da and Xiao Die’s sweetness made me melt, but his horror at falling down and not knowing why and pretending it’s a joke made me sniffle. And so did Huo Yan with his mother, finally finding in himself a measure of forgiveness, and steadily eating her noodles, weeping into the bowl, as she lies there dead. Happy times are here ahead, clearly. Also, I really think that Huo Da is one of the rare drama heroes whose head is screwed on straight (at least until the life-threatening illness bit). Yay.

Here are some caps:

More caps, from ep 13 )

To cheer self up I bring this adorable ISWAK/ISWAK2 MV:

The icy, incredibly intelligent, and yet completely unfamiliar with emotions Zhi Shu and the loud, spontaneous, not clever, but adorable Xiang Qin are one of my favorite drama OTPs.

In other news, I am excited. IceKunion, which put out a lot of manhwa went bust but it was announced that another company picked up their titles and so I'll be able to finish all my fave manhwas. YES!!!!

I've gotten to the angsty part of Why Why Love.

Hold me.

Why?????? ARGH. Poor woobies. Though seriously, Huo Da, I know you think it's for the best, for her not to care, but maybe you should just tell her the truth and not dump her. The whole 'I m totally dying in a horrible slow fashion' is not the best pick-up line ever, true, but she loves you. I know you don't want to be yet another burden on a girl that has so many, but come ON. She is going to find out anyway, since I peeked ahead, and you are going to have that awesome weepy/huggy/emo scene in the hospital anyway.

This said, if I didn't know this was HEA, I couldn't watch.

On Doctor Who front, oh boy. Oh boy. The first half of the season is ROUGH.

If I was merely indiffrent to 3.03 (Gridlock), I actively disliked 'The Daleks of Manhattan.' I could get hives if I started recounting everything that is historically wrong, inaccurate, and silly, from the small things such workers not being told what kind of metal the plates are, when they need to know in order to rivet the plates, to the wrong dates for the buildings, and the fact that for some reason it seems that instead of Al Smith we have Daleks who are building Empire State. And that is only the beginning. Every two minutes made me cringe in sheer historical inaccuracy.

Martha's not knowing what Hooverville was is less irritating than her not knowing about Hamnet, but the McGuffin of this educated woman not knowing basic social and historical stuff so we'd have exposition is getting ridiculous. Either let her know something she would know, or take her somewhere where she justifiably wouldn't know stuff about.

Also, I know PC is awesome and all, but the attitude to Black characters is all wrong in this episode and sticks out like an ahistorical sore thumb. No way would Hooverville be run by a minority person, and the white chorus girl would not be all for Martha and the Doctor being an OTP (I have to say, if they have a minority person as the Doctor's companion, it's a sad fact that they should be careful which period of history they use for their stories, if they stick to Earth, because for most of our history, we were pretty freaking racist. The way Martha is treated throughout the ep is right from a moral point of view but is so ahistorical it sets my teeth on edge. You have to be careful with how and where you place your stories, writers. Now you have to accomodate two ethnicities, k? Make sure Martha doesn't stick out, wherever they go. Because merely by virtue of the color of her skin in our so-not-yet-in-the-least-tolerant society, she would stick out many places in the past, same way the Doctor would stick out in Joseon Korea or in the Great Zimbabwe. Yeah, this complicates your writing. Deal with it).

Martha continues to be nice and well-adjusted and I have no interest in her whatsoever. That is not much of a slam as with shoddy writing such as this ep, I wasn't even interested in the Doctor!

Please tell me it gets better. Please.
