Eeeeeee! I just read spoilers for Tsubasa (up to all published volumes) and

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!

WTF?????????????????????????????????????????

That is so INCREDIBLY brilliant. And mind-bending like drugs are involved.

OMG OMG OMG.

But Syaoran. I feel like crying and staring and going OMG OMG OMG. And Fai. Oh, Fai. The quirky, seemingly sweetly laid-back Fai. Compared to whom it turns out Hakkai (from Saiyuki) is well-adjusted and with a happy family background. OMG, Fai. But at least now we have a clear winner for the worst parent and worst life in anime/mangadom. Heck, if it wasn't for the fact that it is manga, I'd say he should be somewhere on heavy sedation meds and psychiatric care. I never thought I'd ever think Kurogane is the healthiest, least messed-up, least dark of the bunch, but compared to Fai and Syaoran he is like Polyanna.

Spoilers that evoked the spasming )

This post probably made no sense to anyone.

I bought a book on the Kapoors, yay!

Also, here is my write-up on Om Shanti Om.

First off this, it's a pic of SRK with Gauri. Why is it here, what does it have to do with OSO? Nothing, I just like it.

It's hard to write a review of it in any sort of coherent fashion because this really isn't a movie with a story, inasmuch as it is a collection of long, excellent skits, tied together by loose narrative. Sort of like a Bollywood, and much better, and longer Saturday Night Live sketch.

I think that is, much as I loved OSO, I prefer Main Hoon Na because MHN, despite the tongue-in-cheek vibe, actually felt like a genuine movie-movie, and story as well, with characters who felt real, for whom I felt sadness or joy. In OSO, I really didn't think anoyone was a person, more a combination of traits: I was not emotionally invested in them for most part.

I really hope this doesn't read like a slam, because it's not supposed to be, in the least. This was an amazing, delirious movie, and I don't remember last time I laughed so hard. I am dying to see it again. It's just it's a very different type of movie, much further than Jaanemann or Salaam-e-Ishq or Jhoom Barabar Jhoom, or even Farah's own Main Hoon Na, in going into stylized, self-referential territory. The characters exist only to serve the madcap conceits of the author. OSO makes me think of Andaz Apna Apna. In its own way, it's just as stylized-artificial as SLB's Saawariya (btw, side note: if it wasn't Bollywood, no one would even making the two into competitors: whatever you think of them quality-wise, they have almost nothing in common, and offer utterly different things to the viewer).

More babble, not really spoilery ).

And because Saawariya is making me think of the awesomeness of Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, here is one of my favorite romantic songs ever, Salman and Aish making love with their eyes, in front of the family. With subs.

Oh, and Another few scenes from HDDCS )

In more OSO news, here is one of my fave songs from the movie, the climactic Dastaan-e-Om, where he reenacts the crime:

Song here )

In other news, reading the awesome Tsubasa manga makes me want to dig out the anime again. It has one of my fave OTPs, adventure, angst and comedy. Syaoran and Sakura have been friends since childhood and have since fallen in love, even though she is a Princess and he is a commoner. However, right before declaring her feelings, Sakura accidentally activates an artifact which scatters her soul in a myriad of different feathers throughout the dimensions. She will die without her soul. Syaoran must journey with her throughout the worlds to gather them all back. Now she has no memories, no feelings, no self. In fact, with no feathers at all, she is inanimate. The more feathers they find, the more like herself she becomes. However, as a price in order to acquire the ability to travel in such a way (he ends up travelling with an interdimentional being, as well as a warrior Kurogane and a magician Fai), he has to give up the thing most important to him: Sakura's feelings for him. Now, even if she regains all of her memory and her soul, she will not know him or remember him. At all. I always want to cry when she wakes up (finally, because he recovered some of the feathers, through great hardship) and she is all 'who are you' and he manages to be so even and kind and smiling and explains. And then goes outside, as soon as he cans, and just stands, utterly still, in the pouring rain, because that way no one can see if he is crying.

Yes, I have tons more thoughts on Saawariya. Spoilery ergo behind cut )

And speaking of Sanjay Leela Bhansali, here is one of my favorite moments in Bollywood ever, Sameer and Nandini's first meeting:

Oh God.

And here is one of my favorite songs from the movie, the very last one. Ajay is taking the torn Nandini to Salman, who is ecstatic.

HDDCS song )

Oh SLB, never change. Never ever. Who do I have to kill for you to make Bajirao Mastani?

In non-Bollywood news, a question: which drama should I finish first: My Name is Kim Sam Soon or Hello Miss? I have approximately the same amount of episodes left. Or should I finish Sapuri instead?

Speaking of Sapuri, do the the Sapuri lovers on my flist realize that the manga this is based on, has just been released in the USA? (!!!!!!) I saw the first volume (entitled 'Suppli') in the local Barnes&Noble and couldn't believe my eyes. I didn't get it yet, but I did an omnibus of the first three volumes of Tsubasa. I started watching the Tsubasa anime last year and got sidetracked but what I've seen I loved...

New dubbed Ouran ep is out. And it's hilarious and sweet, just like the rest. I have to say, I don't see why Haruhi doesn't want to hang out with the club on her vacation. Personally, I'd find it a riot. Also, I was rooting to Tamaki to win because the boy is so hopeless when it comes to Haruhi. Yup, Tamaki fangirl here. He is just so freaking sweet and straightforward. And plays piano very well. And it's amusing that Kyouya was helping him. And I am cracking up at the fact that if Haruhi notices anyone as a guy, it's Mori, and he is polar opposites from Tamaki, what with the laconic, reserved thing.

My playlist (all 15 subbed eps in order) is here

I am freaking addicted and will check out the manga actually.

Btw, is Bleach worth buying? I'd have to get it on ebay as Netflix doesn't have it. And is it complete?

Also, Tsubasa Chronicle music is my favorite anime music out there. In some ways, Syaoran reminds me of Sousuke from FMP. So earnest. Every girl should have someone as good as Syaoran around. Btw, what's up with Tomoyo and Kurogane? Are they a ship? Is he her knight? What? He seems to be a violent guy yet even after she sends him to another dimention, he still says he will serve only her. How do they know each other and what?

And talking about ships, OMG. Syaoran/Sakura are totally going to be added to the pile. I am only 3 eps in, and I already love them. So sweet and angsty and just perfect. If anyone is curious, this AMV is quite good as a trailer both for the ship and the anime. And it uses the credits music so I love. The story (to sum it up very breifly) is this: Syaoran and Sakura have been friends since childhood and have since fallen in love, even though she is a Princess and he is a commoner. However, right before declaring her feelings, Sakura accidentally activates an artifact which scatters her soul in a myriad of different feathers throughout the dimensions. BSG S3 trailer is on Youtube. Is it October yet?

brief reaction comment )

Because I've been rambling about Ouran High School Host Club, here are some stills behind cut. I just realized I never did a GetBackers picspam so it's something I must remedy in the near future.

Oooooooran )

And in other news, we now have an extra day in Japan. Yay! We've tentatively narrowed the places we want to see to Tokyo, Nikko, Nara, Kyoto, Matsumoto, Himeji, and Kawahara. We are probably only going to have time for Tokyo, Kyoto and at most three other places, so any help in narrowing it down? (we get to Tokyo Saturday afternoon and the tentative schedule is we spend Saturday afternoon in Tokyo, ditto Sunday. Monday we take a sidetrip to somewhere (sidetrip 1). Tuesday and Wednesday we spend in Kyoto. Thursday and Friday are sidetrips 3 and 4 (from Kyoto). Saturday is Tokyo again and Sunday we fly back). Himeji is a must because of the castle, and I would really love to hit Kawahara, but in a choice between Nikko, Nara and Matsumoto, what's best? I am torn between two of the former. Nikko or Nara? Anyone on the flist?

ETA: I've watched the first ep of Tsubasa Chronicle and I like, but am I losing my mind or are the Prince (Touya) and his Priest actually into each other? I don't usually have slash goggles or anything but the vibe is waaaay too strong. Plus, Sakura is adorable and Syaoran joins the list of really cool, really sweet and decent anime guys. Fye and Kurogane are potentially interesting.
