The icon signifies my brutalized emotional state.

Being a woman of my word, I started two of the dramas I promised to watch in exchange for people watching Something Happened in Bali.

Being the type who always did her homework for Monday on Friday night, I started with the two dramas that looked least appealing - Miss No Good and The Rose.

So far, I have seen the first episode of both.

Well, that was certainly an appropriate name for you, Miss No Good. Whywhywhywhy? I am terrified to think that there was not just one but a whole group of executives, writers and actors in Taiwan who thought this would be a good idea. It makes one despair for humanity. I had to hit mute to block out Rainie's terrifying voice, but it did not make the drama much better. WTF! Rainie can be so good (To Get Her, Why Why Love) but here she is a horrifying monster caricature. On LSD. After a few ecstasy pills. Her mugging made me worry she'd dislocate her face, her gestures would have terrified a monkey, and don't get me started on her apartment, her hair or her 'cute' clothes. I have seen better-looking insane homeless people. Moreover, her drama personality makes one believe in the good social work performed by euthanasia enthusiasts. To add insult to injury, the leading guy is TRAGICALLY unhot. Tragically. Though he seems to have more patience than I would (I would have shoved her out of his car onto a highway in hopes of her getting run over) and at least the opening credits promise some sexy kisses. *sigh* My martyrdom has began. I shall conquer this, I shall!

The Rose. I liked the first episode of this much better (though watching a nuclear waste dump might have been better in comparison with MNG). The production values/film stock is typical older twdrama (i.e. nonexistent) but this looks like a drama with potential. My big problem with this drama is that I adore Ella in general and I like her character (even if her haircut reminds me disturbingly of Minam) but I basically hate everyone else except for the Unhot Unbrother. Because WTF people - everyone who tells her she is ugly and/or fat (which is everyone, including grandma and siblings), I want to throw them into a pit and roast marshmallows on their remains. She so believes is and is beaten down when she is a sweet sweet kid. Ugh. Unhot unbrother escapes the general condemnation (even though he is tragically unhot - what, was there a shortage of hot actors in Taiwan that year or something?) because he is the only one not doing it. Good for you, Unhot Unbrother! I am rooting for you all the way! I know flisties who watched this all root for Kui, the bisexual one played with super-long hair and delicious vamp flair by Joe Cheng and I admit he is wicked entertaining, but I hate hate HATE him because he is horrible to Ella, calling her a fat pig and being a preening cruel diva in general. Hopefully he'll snap out of it because for now I want to stick some gum in his hair.

So, there it is.

Tbh, if it wasn't for the deal, I would not continue with either drama past the first episode (though The Rose is much better than MNG) but needs must :)

I shall let you know how it goes.

Happy Ramadan and Rosh Hashana to those celebrating it on my flist!

Also, I've found one drama with Joe Cheng I'll be skipping: The Rose.

I can put up with a lot of WTF but incest is really not my bag (ahhhh, the Japanese mangas and their bizarro world).

I was thinking it might be something cute to watch and it has Joe and the girl who is going to be the lead in Hana Kimi.

And then I found out the plot.

Our heroine is pursued by two men. And one of them is her half brother (and he is played by JC). Okaaaaaaaaay. And they are both sort of percieved as viable (with kissing????) Okaaaaaay. Oh, and the other guy in question? He is also JC's half-brother (not related to the heroine though). And there might be a thing between the two guys too because JC is sort of bi and sort of attracted to him (or just acting out, who knows). There is certainly at least one boy-on-boy kiss.

OKAAAAAAY.

No.

I've finally found a dorama too weird for me.

Also, on a shallow note, oh my God, the hair. The hair!!!!

MV for it, you can see what I mean )
