I thought I felt like watching a fluffy, angst-free, silly jdrama.

Being me, I ended up with Love 2000 and First Love instead. Hello, my darling future super-romantic angstfests! First eps of both were excellent.

Let's star with First Love - a 2002 romantic drama starring Watabe Atsuro and Fukada Kyoko. Fukada Kyoko plays Kasumi, a woman in her early 20s. Kasumi is pleased to find out her older sister has just gotten engaged, that is, until she meets the fiance. You see, Nao, the fiance in question, was Kasumi's first love. He was also her high school teacher and they were involved in an angsty illicit relationship together until he felt so guilty he broke it off and disappeared. Ooooooooh, can you feel the aaaangst?

After all, their past involved things like this:

More from the scene, it's an older jdrama so they seem not to have forgotten how to kiss yet )

And then there is Love 2000, the one I am even more excited about. L2000 (also known as Nisennen no Koi) is a 2000 drama starring Takeshi Kaneshiro (a.k.a. the hottest Japanese actor ever) and Nakayama Miho.

Takeshi is a secret agent/assassin from a fictional country sent on a deadly mission into Japan. He meets a systems analyst, played by Miho, and plans to seduce her in order to access the information he needs. And then...in dangermousie's favorite fiction trope of all time...he finds he has fallen in love for real. And who could blame him - have you seen how warm and gorgeous Miho is?

Lots of kissing (across a chain-link fence!), hurt/comfort and angst ensues. Oh, that is going to end so well! (Seeing that at the start of ep 1 he had to kill his brother at the brother's request to complete the mission, I see sparkly happy endings all around).

Just look at them! MMMMM.

I am a lying liar, I am.

I just made a post about not starting any new dramas because of backlog.

I lied.

I have just realized that I own Love 2000 with Takeshi Kaneshiro (my fave jdrama actor!) and Nakayama Miho.

He is an assassin who falls in love when he shouldn't...

With a girl he is supposed to be wooing only to get access to his goals.

OMG. It's Takeshi, as an angsty, madly-in-love assassin! How could I ever say no!!!

Plus, just look at this gorgeous MV: the kissing! the angst! The guns!

It's spoilery, but come on, how well did you think it was going to end?

Settled, this is the drama I am taking with me this weekend.

Is anyone as excited about It started with a kiss as I am?

Joe Cheng and Ariel Lin in promos for ISWAK2 )

In other news, I am still gleeful about Hana Kimi ergo a few more pics of the scrumptuous Oguri Shun who will play Sano.

Pics here )

And speaking of scrumptuous, a few The Devil pics:

Pics here )

And a few gorgeous pics of Joo Ji-Hoon, just because.

Pics here )

Also, did you know, but Tony Leung, Chow Yun Fat AND Takeshi Kaneshiro are going to be in the same movie? *dies* Even better, it's a period epic, The Battle of Red Cliff, to be directed by John Woo. YES.

And last but not least, there is going to be a Three Kingdoms movie with Andy Lau, Maggie Q, Sammo Hung and Vanness Wu. Yay.

ETA: And I just found out that I can pick ym DVDs of Return of the Condor Heroes at the post-office tomorrow. Yay. Now I want my Handsome Siblings DVDs, dammit.

Today's 'pimp' post is for Kamisama Mou Sukoshi Dake (God Give Me More Time), a jdrama starring Takeshi Kaneshiro, number 4 on [livejournal.com profile] dangermousie's favorite jdramas list (and somewhere in the Top 10 overall) (If you want to know jdrama ranking, it'a 1: Pride, 2: Kurosagi, 3: Forbidden Love, 4: Kamisama, 5: Hanadan).

One of the most awesome, melodramatic, unabashedly romantic dramas I've ever seen. And it's a jdrama, not a kdrama, but it has a kdrama's swoony sensibility, against-everything doomed romance and some incredible kissing, the best I've seen in jdramas. Not to mention Takeshi Kaneshiro, probably the most purely beautiful man I've ever seen. The plot involves a 17 year old girl dying from AIDS (which she got as a result of a 'paid date') who crosses paths with a haunted young composer (I think he is in his mid 20s). Incredible angst, love, and sheer fanservice follows (Keigo, the hero, wears black leather pants and white shirts and runs a hell of a lot). And you know I find the ending uplifting.

A couple of awesome MVs which can be trailers )

I did lengthy, incoherent, madly in love posts when I first watched it, if you want a lot of details. Click on the kmsd tag.

Finally got my replacement DVDs of Kamisama Mou Sukoshi Dake (go a few weeks back and you'll see me rant and rave about the wonderfulness of this). Remember? Teenage girl with AIDS and a haunted young composer falling for each other?

Well, ten and a half episodes in, I have officially decided that this is my favorite jdorama ever, having eclipsed such worthy candidates as Majo No Jouken and Kurosagi. But maybe Tatta Hitotsu No Koi will give it a run for its money. We'll see.

Watching KMSD and being interrupted by trick or treaters while trying not to bawl is an interesting experience. I so need icons of this dorama.

Most of it is going to be under cut because of spoileriness, but I have to note that I want to kiss the costume designer for KMSD. I love every single outfit, both male and female. And the whole dark pants-white shirt combo they have Keigo wearing? Genius.

Of angst and unbearable hotness )

Kamisama Mou Sukoshi Dake is scarily addictive. It has replaced Forbidden Love as my favorite jdorama (Hana Yori Dango had to move to third, alas). In fact, I am so madly in love with it, I got up extra early so I could watch some before I had to head out, and if you know me, you know I never get up early. And thus I finished episode 8.

Yes.

I have also finally figured what the purpose and point of KMSD is. It's not telling a hot angsty love story. It's not tackling the issue of AIDS. It's not even, though it's almost blasphemy to say it, to showcase the hotness of Takeshi. Nope. KMSD's mission is to single-handedly change the viewers' opinions about the lameness of jdorama kisses. "We know you believe that jdorama kisses are lame," proclaim the brave makers of KMSD. "So we shall compensate you for the years of suckiness by having multiple, incredibly, hot kisses in ours." And what a praiseworthy effort this is. The only two awesome kisses I've seen in a jdorama have both been in this one. And they both go in my Top 5 dorama kisses, for sure.

I really wish I had the address of whoever made this, because I'd write them a nice, long thank-you note. Seriously. This is the apotheosis of fangirl dreams. And I am a fangirl. They have Takeshi running for half the drama. They have him wearing leather pants. OK, my heart got used to it slowly. But then they have him swimming. In the river. Still in his sexy black clothes. With close-ups. And if that wasn't enough, they have the wet, swimming, black-clothed Takeshi kissing. With gigantic close-ups. Stick a fork in me, I'd done. I have no idea how they can top this, but I am full of anticipation.

Sorry, [livejournal.com profile] klmorgan, I tried to be strong and save watching more KMSD until we could continue together, but I couldn't help it. I blame Takeshi. Yeah. That's it. But I would totally love to (re)watch this with you if you want.

The thought that someone made Kamisama Mou Sukoshi Dake and that I actually can watch it, here on my own TV, feels me with unholy glee. Though the name is somewhat misleading. Yes, “God, Give Me More Time” is a catchy title. But not as catchy as “God, give me more Takeshi Kaneshiro, preferably angsty, running and wet” which is really what it’s all about.

Oh, and the kissing! Oh. My. God. I think the kissing scene in this one has totally made up for the usually crappy kissing in jdoramas.

Oh Keigo. How much do you rock? You totally own me. Of course, on some level, this is a typical fangirl fantasy: “I am going to meet this famous celebrity and it will turn out that the cynical careless façade is just a shell and inside is this amazing guy. Who looks like Takeshi.” But hey, it’s a fantasy for a reason. It’s so delicious.

And Masaki? She reminds me of a kitten. She is self-absorbed with the self-absorption of the very young, but it’s not a bad sort of selfishness. She is heedless, not selfish. When she realizes she’s been wrong or thoughtless, she tries to make things right. Sometimes I want to hug her (the scene with the banners in the stadium) and sometimes smack her (when she talks to the reporter). She is rather naïve, isn’t she? And she is so full of fun and vigor and charm, and manages to project a certain kind of innocence (not to mention the actress is amazingly pretty) that it’s easy to see why Keigo is so drawn to her, why he falls for her. But of course, however full of vitality, optimism or spirits she is (and that is why he falls for her: it’s an escape from his emo depression), she has HIV and she will eventually die, just as Keigo’s previous gf died (from something else).
