I have just started Strawberry on the Shortcake and I have only one thing to say - am I going insane or is the (male) student who's been held back a couple of years and the (female) guidance counsellor a secret couple?

????

I mean, I knew about stepsiblings-in-love but I didn't know about this. Ahhh, Japan, how you spoil me.

I have finished ep 5 of Orthros No Inu and it was total love. Last year was a wash for me, jdrama-speaking - I cannot think of a single one I liked. This year is shaping lovely though - I am obsessed with OnI, I adored what I have watched of Smile (must complete now the subs are done), Otomen is very cute, and [livejournal.com profile] filmi_girl just introduced me to the adorableness that is Buzzer Beat. Not bad, jdrama world, not bad.

(I adore the 'subtle' symbolism)

Thoughts on and caps of ep 5 )

Oh, and as I mentioned up top, Buzzer Beat is adorable. Mainly because of the way Yamapi looks at his OTP:

Because I have never met a spoiler I didn't like, I finally caved and went to d-addicts Orthros No Inu thread.

And then I saw this in the thread:

Picture from ep 5 )

Really?

REALLY?

OMG, I think I might hyperventilate from glee over more of my wrongwrongimusthaveit ship.

Side note: I think it's a crime Takki doesn't make more dramas.

A crime.

He is one of the jdrama actors I find both drop-dead-gorgeous (Nagase, Fujiki Naohito, and Takeshi Kaneshiro are only the other three who both make me this unthinkingly weak at the knees) and talented.

Am though ep 4 of Orthros No Inu and continue to love it. It is still all about Ryuzaki for me - half the time I am repulsed by him, and the other half fascinated and a little sad - and every time I think I get the grip on what makes him tick, he does something else that throws all my presuppositions off - like the scene in the hospital with sick kids - I was so sure he was yanking Aoi's chain and wanting him to kill. Maybe in part to get some rough justice, too. I wasn't even surprised he healed that kid in exchange as he promised (though I loved that I did not know whether he would or not). But he's also healed all the kids in the ward and that wasn't part of what he bargained for or anything like that - it seemed a genuinely good deed.

My badwrongiwantit ship continues to get fueled by the evil evil drama:

(And then she snaps the cuffs on him. LOVE YOU, HASEBE!)

Because I love men interacting with kids :P

And then we got to the end of ep 4 and a lot of things suddently made sense and I felt very very bad for Ryuzaki. He's not a nice person but my heart did break for him a bit. I can see why it wouldn't give one a rosy outlook on life.

I am about halfway through the second episode of Orthros No Inu and I really do love it - it is completely a live-action scifi anime.

A magnetic killer on death row who can heal any illness merely with his touch, and views his gift as both a Godlike stamp of superiority and a curse:

A saintly innocent who has to confront the fact that he has the power to kill just with a touch and who longs to expiate:

A no-nonsense but too impulsive single mother detective who gets drawn into the unbelievable world of supernatural powers and dark secrets:

Welcome to Orthros No Inu, ladies and gentlemen!

At the end of episode 1, I am in love.

Everything I have seen was to the effect of 'the story is slow for a while etc' so I must be the only person who has been hooked from minute 1. I have such a weakness for dark, scifi-ish stories that feel like anime in a good way. Throw in Takizawa Hideaki (playing the darkest I have seen him do - the guy in Taioyu no Kistesu was unscrupulous and horrible in his desire for revenge but he was not a killer), a tough-as-nails and gun-wielding heroine, and my first look at Nishikido Ryo (I really like him!) and I am set.

But honestly, I would have loved this no matter what because the visuals are so gorgeous.

Nonspoilery caps for ep 1 )

So far, I find all the three main chracters fascinating but it is Takki's killer healer that I find the most ineresting. Sure, he wanted the warden dead, but it was to fascilitate his escape and the warden did use him for years to make money like some sort of trick monkey. He is clearly not a good man and I can see someone like him snapping and knifing three people all at once but I do wonder about him - interestingly, he let both Hasebe and Ryo's character live despite having plenty of opportunity to kill them both. So - not all evil, presumably. Interesting.

I missed jdramas! They really can be unusual. YESS.

Go on, tell me, you wouldn't want to watch this. I dare you!

Once the baby goes to sleep, I am marathonning the available eps of Orthros No Inu, a 10-episode currently airing Japanese drama which purports to be supernatural and dark.

OnI is supposed to be about conflict between two very different men - one is a man whose touch, somehow, can heal. However, currently he is in jail for multiple murders, and to say he is a good person would be extremely incorrect. The other, ironically, is a good man whose touch can kill. Their paths are about to cross...

I am in it for the potential dark anime-like vibe and Takki (a.k.a. Takizawa Hideaki, he of the horrendously long name, playing the 'demon' in question) - he is one of the rare Japanese actors I am actually fixated on to the degree where I will watch anything and everything with him. I mean, I watched 49-ep long taiga drama for him! (I am sure Ryo is fine but I have never seen him in anything as none of his previous dramas were my thing for various reasons).

Oh YES.

You can tell how excited I am by the fact that this drama seems to be shipless and I don't care and want to watch it anyway!

ETA: You know, I miss jdramas! Kdramas are my favorite and I watch the most of them, but there is nothing like a jdrama to really get into a mood - maybe because I sort of started with them.
